She has a Master of Science focused on Gerontology (study of aging) and is a Certified Dementia Practitioner. Carrie has been a professional caregiver on and off for the last ten years. 

As our Chief Curiosity Maverick, Francis LeGasse, says, “A Dementia Diagnosis is not the end but a change in the ending!” Together we can create an improved future for the way we age especially those living with Dementia!

Today we’re talking with Nadine Cornish, founder of the Caregiver’s Guardian about the impact of COVID19 on family and professional caregivers, what families can do now to prepare for life with their seniors, and how we can make caregiving a family affair.

In her caregiving journey with her mom that spanned nearly 15 years, Nadine knew that her life would never be the same and so much of what she had gone through with her mom was training ground for how she would serve others.

Nadine’s background in Public Health was extraordinarily helpful. Since her caregiving journey began, she also became a Certified Senior Advisor, Gerontologist, Speaker and Author who has created The Gumbo Series – books on Caregiving.

For more than 30 years, Lisa Rehburg has been working with insurance brokers, financial advisors and clients in the health and life insurance industries. She has held executive roles at carriers, general agencies, and third-party administrators (TPAs). Ms. Rehburg is energized by helping financial professionals, non-profit organizations, health care professionals and their clients benefit from unwanted or unneeded life insurance policies.

With more than 500,000 seniors a year walking away from their life insurance policies, she believes passionately in educating clients and their advisors about the value a life insurance settlement can bring.

Her articles, “8 Myths of Life Insurance Settlements – Debunked!”, and “Life Insurance Settlements and Real Estate – More Similar than you know” have been published in recent issues of California Broker Magazine. The Mavericks sit down with Marlo Vernon a recent graduate from the University of Colorado - Boulder.

Marlo has a passion to impact the way we age and improve the lives of our older adults. Marlo's story is like so many. Her goal was to impact her grandmother's life in a positive way.

Marlo shares her perspectives on why she chose to head down the path of Senior Care. Also, she will share her vision of the future of how we age and what really is important to stand out for young entrepreneurs. Marlo is the founder and CEO of CarePenguin.

CarePenguin was inspired by Marlo’s grandmother who wasn’t answering her phone one day. After many missed calls and text messages, her family grew increasingly concerned, especially because Grandma’s sister had just passed away months earlier from a stroke while living alone. Marlo’s family ended up calling security to check in on her and found that she was completely fine. ‍

There must be a way to keep tabs on our elderly loved ones without making them feel like they’re living under a microscope or breaking the bank. ‍ Coming from a family of nerds, Marlo’s father and now CTO of CarePenguin, Todd Vernon came up with a simple, non-invasive, inexpensive solution.

Michelle Adam started this firm because she had personally experienced what happens when a loved one fails to plan for their death or disability. She enjoys working with people to help them come up with the best solutions for their situation and giving them a measure of comfort that they are prepared and have provided for their loved ones if something should happen to them.

A significant portion of her practice focuses on the needs of parents of minor children who want to ensure that they have put solid plans in place for the protection of their children. As a mom, she is acutely aware that if something were to happen to her, her family would be tremendously impacted. However, she knows that one of the best gifts she can give them would be to take the simple steps of getting my plans in order.
In addition to my legal practice, she strongly believes in giving back to the community.

Michelle volunteers time to several organizations including Denver CASA, Denver Great Kids Head Start, Denver Center for Crime Victims, Volunteers of America and the Denver Bar Association’s School and Lawyers Committee.



Originally from New York City, she earned her B.A. in Administration of Justice from the Pennsylvania State University and my J.D. from Brooklyn Law School. For the past 17 years, she and her family have called Colorado home and we take advantage of all this great state has to offer!

Breeda MillerHumor, Heartache and Dementia

The Mavericks sit down with Ms. Breeda Miller to talk about all caregiving. Ms. Miller was an accidental caregiver. She had no training, no medical background. She didn't know what she didn't know. Ms. MIller just knew she loved my mom and she couldn't live on her own any longer. So she moved in with her family and for nearly 8 years we cared for her.

It was good, until it wasn't.

Ms. Miller learned so much during those years, including hospice care in her home. Living in the Sandwich Generation taught her more about life than she could ever have imagined.
