#76: When Should You Retake a Class as a Premed Student

Dr. Adam Nessim, the founder of The Premed Consultants, answers a common question that many premed students have: when should you retake a class? While there is no definitive answer, Dr. Nessim shares some best practices for determining when to retake a class. He advises that if you receive a C- or lower, you should retake the class. However, for grades of C or higher, it becomes a bit more complicated. Dr. Nessim discusses the potential benefits of retaking a class versus taking upper-level science courses to demonstrate academic improvement. He also explains how retaking a class impacts your GPA on medical school applications and provides some options for where and when to retake a class. Overall, this video provides valuable insights for premed students who are considering retaking a class.

#67: Why you shouldn't take the MCAT if you're not ready

#67: Why you shouldn't take the MCAT if you're not ready

Don't go into the MCAT with the idea you will already be taking it again. Are you allowed multiple attempts? Yes, Can you still get in if you have multiple attempts? Yes. But having the mindset that the first Mcat you take is “just a practice run” is not a good idea. Ideally, you should be one and done with the MCAT. Many students study and then take it when they are not ready because they are already planning on taking it again. Not only does this usually lead to inadequate prep but medical schools will view all your scores. And they won't necessarily “superscore” it (take the best of all your sections) like some colleges do with the SAT or ACT.
