Generational Trauma in Collaboration with APIDA
Alicia and Amaya speak with Maddy Gastador (student ambassador of the Office of Asian Pacific Islander Desi Student Engagement) about generational trauma within the Hispanic and Latinx, and APIDA communities. We address generational trauma within contemporary representational films, including Turning Red, Everything Everywhere All at Once, Encanto, and Coco.

Alicia and Amaya explore colorism within the different Latinx diasporas. They analyze the implications of colorism through both lived experiences, conversations with other members of the community, and current events.

Ep. 23: The Intersections of Gender Identity, Inclusivity, & Language
In this episode, join Natalie & Edy as they chat with Dr. Sebastian Ferrada. Dr Ferrada is an assistant professor at Emerson College as well as a co-host on the podcast Cafe Con Chisme. Their research broadly encompasses the areas of queer of color critique, raciolinguistics, and the developing field of Jotería Studies, which merges women of color feminisms and queer Chicanx studies. This episode continues the conversation on the need for inclusivity in the Spanish language & also briefly discusses the erasure of queer identities in the Latinx culture.

Working toward diversity in the field of technology goes beyond the classroom. UF Alumni, Michael Samper, talks about his journey from undergrad to his dream job at Twitter. We discuss why mentorship matters, navigating the field as a first-gen student, and Samper's transition from Gainesville to San Francisco --- a different kind of culture shock.
Episode 20: Spanish as a Heritage Language
In this episode, Natalie & Edysmar speak with Joana Paola Guerrero Rodriguez. Paola is a fourth-year doctoral candidate in Hispanic Linguistics, and an instructor for Spanish heritage language classes at UF. Listen as we talk about dialect discrimination, how to encourage our descendants to speak Spanish, identity struggles in Spanish heritage speakers, and so much more!

For Gabriella Nuñez and Luis Chong, the need for coffee and a home away from home brought them together. In this episode, co-hosts Edy and Natalie learn about how the two newly engaged UF graduates began their love story at La Casita and the challenges they faced throughout the relationship.

Join us this week as we they catch up with Dr. Cecilia (CC) Suarez and talk about the interesting experience of being back home as an adult during quarantine and being surrounded with the familiar practices & values one grew up with, such as religion. Dr. CC shares her story of how her relationship with religion changed overtime as she developed her own meaning of spirituality in her reflections as an "ex-super catholic".
Episode 14: Latinx Racialization with Dr. Vargas
Join us this week as we speak with Dr. Nicholas Vargas an Associate Professor in the Center for Latin American Studies and in the Department of Sociology, Criminology and Law as he speaks about racialization of Latinxs as well as some of his research on Hispanic Serving Institutions and what that designation could mean for UF particularly for Black and Indigenous students.
Episode 13: Latinx Mental Health & Wellness
Join Bianca and Jasmin as they speak to Dra. Zully Rivera-Ramos from the UF Counseling and Wellness Center about mental health in the Hispanic-Latinx community. Specifically we speak about things such as ataque de nervios and how symptoms have become normalized within the community as well as intergenerational trauma and the impacts it has on students feeling included within institutional settings. Additionally, we touch on resources available at the CWC that are for the Hispanic-Latinx community specifically. Enjoy!

Episode 4: Essential Personnel & COVID- 19
Join us as we discuss the implications of being essential personnel in the time of COVID-19, especially for vulnerable communities & populations. This episode will look closer at these themes through the current context in Immokalee, Florida, a small agricultural town in Southwest Florida where many farmworkers are working to feed the country in this current pandemic.
Update: After the recording of this episode, it was announced that the Florida Department of Health in Collier County will hold testing for Immokalee residents, with no referral needed or insurance.
