Our “Integrated Health” season dives deep into the field of integrated medicine. The series of interviews with guest experts help us to explore the possibilities of integrating various approaches towards preventative care and health management.

Chinese herbal medicine, an essential component of Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), utilizes herbal and plants to support patients’ healing and has saved millions of lives during thousands of years of history. However, due to its distinction from Western treatment methods, Chinese herbal medicine remains mysterious to a considerable amount of the population. In this episode, Dr. Zhang, a registered Chinese practitioner from Western Sydney University, unlocks this mystery for us. Dr. Zhang introduces the difference between Chinese herbal medicine and conventional Western herbal medicine, the safety standards of Chinese herbal medicine, as well as valuable advice on how to select qualified TCM practitioners.

Our “Integrated Health” series opens the door to the world of integrated medicine. Together with professional guest speakers, we are going to explore how the integration of distinctive medical treatments could influence health. 

Given the significant difference between Eastern and Western medical techniques, many think of Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) as mysterious and have many misconceptions about TCM. In this episode titled, “Demystifying traditional Chinese medicine: separating facts from fiction”, the second part of our interview with Christine Yen, we will learn about the facts and actuality of TCM. As a registered practitioner working in Australia, Christine also discusses common stereotypes about TCM she had encountered and provides valuable suggestions for ways to promote the understanding of TCM.

In the age of modernization, cutting-edge technologies seem to make enormous contributions to the medical field. However, traditional Chinese medicine also plays a significant role, especially when integrated with high-tech or Western treatment methods. In this episode, Christine Yen, who earned her Bachelor’s degree at Western Sydney University in Chinese medicine and is currently working as a registered practitioner with the Australia Health Practitioner regulation abroad, shares her view of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM). Besides talking about her experience of studying TCM in Australia, Christine also discusses her work on clinical practice and the application of TCM, along with the integration of TCM and Western medical techniques. Let’s look forward to this adventure of traditional Chinese medicine and inspiring perspectives from professionals.
