Temperature Check: Some More Lemonade w/ N'Dea Davenport
Hello,
Again & again with another convo. This one is chicken soup served straight to you by the lovely & wonderful N'Dea Davenport. She gives so many jewels and gems in this ep its almost unbelievable. We go over what her experience with the past year has been like and all the work she has been taking the time to do. And not necessarily artistic work, but the work a person needs to do on themselves. There's also the appearance of a rare, semi-sentimental Late. Almost cut from the episode! There's been a LOT going on and we talk about the effect it has had on all of us and the opportunities than can still be found. Learn how to fish.

MLS 148: Mevina Liufau, Heritage, and Innovation with DJ Tagg
Before this recording if you asked me who was Mevina, id tell you he was the homie. A cool as hell, big Samoan guy that runs a few Polynesian dance school or classes. And i think owns a few restaurants back in the states.
Turns out that's only partially right. Mevina comes from a long line of super influential members of the Polynesian dance and music community. If youve ever seen Polynesian dance on tv or at Disneyland youre seeing some part of his families influence. He himself also being tremendously influential in dance and music. Hes changed the industry, style and inspired thousands. Its wild.
Today we learn just a bit about who is Mevina and the lineage of greatness from which he comes. It was kind of mind blowing. Tune in.
Plus he reppin that West Coast.

Temperature Check: 1st Edition Charizard Holo w/ Go Yama
Hello,
The return of the 200 IQ!!
Go Yama makes a blessed appearance on this TempCheck! It has been awhile since we chopped it up so we spend a bit of time catching up and seeing where each other are at. He has been in Cali and recently relocated to L.A. He's been busy during These Times not only with his music, but also with his new non-profit, which focuses on the non-entertainment and rehabilitative properties of music. Also there's tons of just random talk including too much info about Late and a tragic story about Go Yama and the sale of a rare ass Pokemon card.
Shout-out to the OG of the 200 IQ, Go Yama, who is a man with many plans and high-level ideas.
Holler at him on Clubhouse!

MLS 145: MMA, Iridescent Blackness, and Maurice Shelton
Maurice Shelton is a semi-retired professional Mixed Martial Artist and trainer at a Tokyo UFC gym. Amongst other things, he is also a friend, co-host of the This Is Not Information podcast, historian, and actor.
Regular ol renaissance man.
I caught up with him last Friday to discuss his experiences training, fighting and teaching MMA in Japan. We discuss being Black in the largely non-Black online MMA community of the aughts as well as fighter unionization. Also some leftist politics.
We were talking so long that we almost missed the opportunity to discuss an upcoming short film that Maurice stars as the main protagonist.
Check this one out for the details on his fairly unique experience as a Black man within the MMA community in Japan.
Also live reaction to the passing of the legendary Shock G.

Temperature Check: "Comics &..." w/ Submerse
Hello,
It's mostly comics, tho. Welcome back, true believers!! For this Check, got the homey Submerse on the call. He has, like many, has been keeping busy while things are quiet in these times. Gigging when he can, he was able to release a jungle album and has some other joints prepping in the chamber. We talk all about his music and what's going on / what he think will happen in Japan in the future.
But, most importantly (and most of the episode, lol) we get into some heavy, HEAVY comic talk. We had only lightly discussed comic books before after discovering our mutual interest, but we really get into it during this convo. It's a little disgusting. If you don't understand what we are talking about, hope ya'll pick up some gems, then hopefully eventually end up picking up a couple issues. Some really good nerd shit this ep. COMICS. GAMES. HIP-HOP. TOKYO. CORONAVIRUS. CONTENT,
Enjoy, ok?

Temperature Check: HATE & Hentai w/ Omen44
Hello,
After a lil technical difficulty caused delay, another one.
This convo is with the god Omen44. He has had a busy year despite the ongoing pandemic situation. He released multiple albums last year, and was even able to finish two tours before the whole world went to hell. He talks about hearing murmurings about the upcoming threat while still in Japan then experiencing it full-force when he arrived in NY. Even through all this he is taking the time to work on his craft and build, even outside of his art.
There is a lot of music talk with special focus on his latest two albums, 7 and Hentai. Make sure to check those out especially the tracks "Eclipse"; "Dum-dum"; and "i can see the sun" off of Hentai, which feature Planet Asia; Fizzi Pizzi; and Skyzoo; respectively, and the latter of which Omen gratuitously allowed to be included at the end of this episode. Also make sure to go check out the project he released with two other Japanese rappers, Nipps and Vikn, 25:17.
His latest single, HATE, was just released recently and features Chelsea Reject. The track was made in response to the recent spate of anti-Asian violence that has been happening, and we also get into that topic during the course of our convo.

This convo was recorded at the end of the year so please excuse any outdated info. We talk about Justice's recent moves, what the mood is like in Tokyo, and the difficulties & ethics of organizing during a pandemic. Justice is one of the most active participants in the scene so it was really interesting to hear his perspective on all the changes that have been going on.
Make sure to follow Justice and The Bridge for updates on when things start popping again! And mask up, wash your hands, & stay safe!

Still droppin these phone convo bombs.
This episode is with Magic Mike, dancer slash emcee extraordinaire. A lot has happened since he first appeared on the podcast a couple years ago. We talk about how he's been dealing with the pandemic in China. He saw it all go down as it happened and provides some insight on the response. He also is used to traveling for work so we get into how all of this has been effected by the various lockdowns and cancellations. We also get into how things have been going in Hong Kong, when he plans to get back to Japan, and preparing for life in the post-times.
We're almost at the end of the tunnel, bb's. Can you see the light?

Temperature Check: 2 Hands Up (a-k-a, A Poor Man's Run The Jewels) w/ Mega Ran
Back with another one! The homey Mega Ran hopped on the line and to talk about what's been going on with him. We get into politics, surviving and growing during a pandemic, plans that had to be delayed due to the pandemic, and Twitch'ing for 3 hours every day!(!!) And, we speak on his project with Slum Village member Young RJ, 2 Hands Up.
2 Hands Up dropped earlier this year and has proven to be one of the best projects released in 2020. With it's tone and subject matter, it proved to be as timely as it was powerful. I can't praise and talk it up enough, so if you haven't listened to it yet, go peep that!! Ran also details how the project came together and what the future holds for him and 2 Hands Up, which he refers to as "a poor man's Run The Jewels".
Speaking of jewels, there are many dropped also throughout this convo especially as far as moves independent artists should make to evolve their grind. Listen & do your googles. It's been a HELLACIOUS year, but the finish line is in sight!
Big shouts to the big homey! And I love all my Tanaka's!!
