“At the end of the day, why don’t we all do what we’re passionate for. That’s what we’re here to do.”

About JJ Elliott:

JJ Elliott is an advertising copywriter with a degree in English from UCLA. She lost her mother to suicide as a teenager, and spent over two years volunteering on the suicide hotlines in LA. One of the reasons she wanted to write this book is because she finds herself increasingly frustrated by the way suicide is treated in print and on-screen, as a mystery to be solved rather than a multi-layered, complex mental health situation that can rarely be boiled down to one specific "reason."

A native of Northern California, JJ now lives in the San Francisco Bay Area with her husband, two teenage kids, and two poorly trained bulldogs. She loves to read, drink wine, play tennis, and eat cheese. There Are No Rules For This is her first novel.

S2E15: Kristina Wingeier: Being Lunar in a Solar World

S2E15: Kristina Wingeier: Being Lunar in a Solar World

What is Lunar Living? As Kristina says, “It’s an opportunity to be more reflective, to not always be in push mode and active all the times; to respect down periods, to understand fallow times and to consciously allow that and plan your life around your cycles as much as possible.” Yet it can be challenging to live this way in a world that values productivity and views rest as a sign of weakness. Join us in this rich conversation of rewilding as we explore the challenges of being lunar in a solar world, and share perspectives, practices and resources to support you in honoring both your internal lunar and solar, without letting the mind’s conditioning limit you in any way; and how to work with your ebbs and flows without losing momentum or visibility.

After we wrapped up our recording I realized I’d forgotten to ask Kristina the question I ask all of my guests: What brave woman inspires you these days? So I asked her afterwards and here’s her response: “The brave woman who inspires me right now is my body, and the body of the feminine in general. My body is resilient, she loves fiercely, she holds all of me. I'm expanding my capacity to feel her, to live inside of my own body more and more from a place of deep compassion for all that my body has lived through. I'm feeling less resistance to my aging body - my midlife, postmenopausal feminine vessel. Bringing awareness and deep reverence for my matrilineal ancestral body and the collective feminine body - for every woman's body. The goddess body, this precious body.”

Journaling prompts:

1. How do you access/receive your intuition?

2. What are the practices you engage in that invite you into that receptive way of being so you can actually receive your intuition?

3. What are some of those choices or actions you’d like to take that invite you into more vulnerability and visibility?

4. What are the things (and resources) that can support you in that, before, during and after?

Episode 6: Surrender

Episode 6: Surrender

We’ve learned to view ‘surrender’ as a weakness, since one definition of the word describes it as giving up to another who has more power or authority over us. In an attempt to avoid this weakness at all costs, we try to control everything. But what does that actually create for us in our lives and businesses, relationships and beyond? What if surrender can be a strongness, not a wrongness? What if so much more is available to us when we choose to surrender our points of views? Our control? Our defenses? I used to fear that surrender would lead to the complete obliteration of me. Yet I’ve discovered that surrender can actually be the liberation of me. Perhaps for you, too? Listen in and see for yourself: what else is possible with surrender now?

How often do you apologize for yourself? How much does the fear of other people’s judgments hold you back from being fully self-expressed? A little? A lot? And how fun is that? Living life constricted and contracted, attempting to fit into a box others put you in? Feeling guilty and ashamed for who you truly are? Yeah. It’s not any fun, is it? Which is why I invite you into living and being unapologetically you. Join me for a rich exploration into what it takes to truly live this way. ‘Cause really... how much more fun, freedom and fulfillment is available to you when you choose to be unapologetically you? (My sense is... SO MUCH MORE! What’s your sense?)

You can decide to live your life avoiding judgment or recognize it’s just an energy that's not going to kill you.

Episode 2: Author Your Life

Episode 2: Author Your Life

The conversations we have in the privacy of our own inner terrain are the most important conversations we have. In this intimate space, it’s important to be really honest with yourself: are you holding yourself down or lifting yourself up? Are you telling yourself, ‘Who are you to do this?’ and ‘You can’t do this,’ or are you reminding yourself of the beautiful gift you are, as you are, inspired to explore all that you’re capable of?

(1:40) Being the author of your life

(6:50) Feeling lost and getting married

(10:30) The gift of experience

(16:00) Taking radical responsibility

(19:50) An invitation to let go of judgement

(23:00) How your point of view creates your reality

(26:00) An invitation to the Universe

(32:30) Being a slut (It’s not what you think it is!)

(34:00) Switching the flip! Flipping the switch!

(36:05) Is the Universe friendly or hostile?

(39:55) The power of journaling

(43:46) We are magic

"The journey of authoring my life began with the destruction of the old story."

"If I'm no longer the victim of my life, then I can become anyone I want!"

"If this life of mine is a big playground of possibilities, what do I choose? What would be fun to create?"
