Today we chat with the absolute legend that is Eric Smith @ericsmithrocks A powerhouse literary agent and author extraordinaire, Eric Smith is a rockstar in the publishing world and an all round amazing human. His latest book, Jagged Little Pill: The Novel, a collaboration with Alanis Morissette, Academy award-winner Diablo Cody, and Glen Ballard, is an adaptation of the Grammy and Tony award winning musical. His recent books include You Can Go Your Own Way (Inkyard Press) and the acclaimed anthology Battle of the Bands (Candlewick), co-edited with award-winning author Lauren Gibaldi. It’s currently being adapted for film by Playground Entertainment. His novel Don’t Read the Comments was a YALSA 2021 Best Fiction for Young Adults selection. The paperback is out now. Larissa is a literary agent at Jill Grinberg Literary Management with a list of talented authors in various genres, including our girl Angela 😍 A bit more about our guest: Larissa Melo Pienkowski grew up outside of Boston and attended Simmons University, where she earned her degree in Social Work and Sociology, performed poetry competitively and recreationally, and edited a number of literary magazines. Larissa later went on to receive her MA in Publishing and Writing from Emerson College, where she worked with the likes of Beacon Press and Barefoot Books before becoming the assistant publisher of an independent feminist press. She joined JGLM as an agent in 2020 and represents a wide range of adult and children’s fiction and nonfiction, with a deep-rooted passion for championing the stories of authors from historically excluded backgrounds. The daughter of Brazilian and Polish immigrants, Larissa speaks Portuguese and Spanish. Sawyerr is a Sierra Leonean-American writer with a passion for people and poetry. Her debut novel, CALL HIM BY NAME, told through court transcripts, journal entries, and poetry is forthcoming from Abrams/Amulet in Fall 2023. For Hannah's literary and community involvement, she was recognized as the 2016 Youth Poet Laureate of Baltimore, an honor awarded by DewMore Baltimore, the Baltimore Mayor's Office, Urban Word NYC, and Enoch Pratt Libraries. For her original poem “For Girls Growing Into Their Hips”, she was awarded a National Medal in the NAACP Afro-Academic, Cultural, Technological and Scientific Olympics (ACT-SO) in the category of poetry. Her spoken word has been featured on the British Broadcasting Channel's (BBC) "World Have Your Say" program, as well as the National Education Association's "Do You Hear Us" Campaign for her original poem “A Salone Man’s Refuge.” Her written word has been featured in several publications such as ROOKIE, Sesi Mag, Theories of HER and more.
