S3E17 - PART 2: MONIQUE PANGARI, ADOPTEE & TRAUMA PSYCHOTHERAPIST TALKS ABOUT ADOPTION TRAUMA TREATMENTS
Monique Pangari was born in Australia in 1972 at the height of the ‘Forced Adoption Era.’ Relinquished at birth and adopted at 6 weeks of age, she grew up in a family with two older adopted siblings.
As a result of this complex experience, along with the rollercoaster of FOUR ‘search and reunion’ journeys, early pregnancy and parenting, and now estrangement from multiple family members, she has now ‘come out of the closet’ (again) to talk about the detrimental impacts of relinquishment.
Monique was driven to study psychology and psychotherapy to try to make sense of something no one was talking about. She has spent her 30-year career studying, integrating and teaching others about the significance of relational attachment, the impacts of pre-verbal trauma, and family dynamics where relational attachment disruption has occurred.
Monique has worked with many adoptees, birth mothers and adoptive parents, both in a government-funded organization (PASQ) and in private practice. She specializes in mind-body integration for addressing complex developmental trauma. She has also trained hundreds of professionals in expressive, symbolic and somatic trauma recovery processes.
Through her business, Healing Adoption Trauma, Monique offers therapy, consultation, supervision, online webinars, and training for professionals — specifically for adoptees, their families and other providers working with this population. Her work centers on healing the pain of relinquishment trauma, family separation and cultural loss, with a special focus on the experiences and impact of mother-infant separation.
‘Adoptees Connect,’ a free monthly meeting for adult adoptees, is hosted and facilitated by Monique and her partner (also adopted) on the Sunshine Coast, Qld, Australia.

S3E15 - ADOPTEE JENNIFER D. GHOSTON OF "ONCE UPON A TIME...IN ADOPTEELAND" PODCAST IS HERE & SHARES HER STORY!
Jennifer Dyan Ghoston is a same-race domestic adoptee in reunion with both sides of her biological family. After a 27-year career in law enforcement with the Chicago Police Department, she retired in 2014 as a police detective. In 2015, she self-published her memoir, "The Truth So Far...A Detective's Journey to Reunite With Her Birth Family."
She credits her spiritual journey that started over forty years ago for allowing her path to unfold in unexpected and meaningful ways. In 2021, Jennifer's continued efforts to be open, honest and public about her lived experience while holding space for other members of the constellation (primarily adoptees) has led to hosting the podcast "Once Upon A Time...In Adopteeland." She currently co-facilitates the Adoptee Voices Writing Group created by Sara Easterly.

I hope you'll join me for this conversation with Veronique. It's not often that I do interviews with adoptive parents, and maybe it's been my assumption that I know their stories already. Do you have assumptions about their stories, too?
Veronique is an adoptive mother of a baby girl through an open adoption in 2021. She is originally from the French Caribbean but was born and grew up in France. She is married and is a mother of 2 lovely girls. She moved to the United States in 2003 and has been living in California for 20 years.
She worked in the tech industry for years but now wants to spend more time with her family, raising her girls and supporting her husband. She is a cohost on the podcast "High Vibes and a Mic" with her friend Silvia, where they talk about parenting and spirituality. She says that being an adoptive parent has been a dream come true for her family after trying for years to have a second child.

Julie Ryan McGue is an American writer, a domestic adoptee, and an identical twin. In her books, essays, and blogs, she explores the topics of finding out who you are, where you belong, and making sense of it.
Her award-winning memoir, Twice a Daughter: A Search for Identity, Family, and Belonging, was released in May of 2021. Her work has appeared in multiple journals, anthologies, and online sites, such as the Story Circle Network Journal, Brevity Nonfiction Blog, and Severance Magazine. Her latest book, a collection of essays titled Belonging Matters: Conversations on Adoption, Family, and Kinship released in November of 2023. Her third book, another memoir and a prequel to Twice a Daughter, releases in February of 2025. Julie splits her time between northwest Indiana and Sarasota, Florida.

S3E12 - JESSICA PEARSON, ADOPTEE: "TRAUMA TO TRIUMPH"
Jessica Pearson was born in Billings MT in 1981. Her bio mother was a teenager who found herself pregnant, and with a family that wasn't interested in raising a baby and decided adoption was the best option for them.
Jessica was the first private adoption in the state of Montana. She was raised by a medical doctor and stay-at-home mom, and it all seemed perfectly "normal" and good to her — until she faced the circumstances of reunion and becoming a mother herself.
From there, she set out on a decades-long healing journey, and now assists adoptees with turning their trauma into triumph. Jessica is a certified life coach who co-owns Path Nutrition and also co-hosts her podcast Weight a Minute.

Kevin Berthia is a suicide survivor, advocate, and speaker. Kevin pours his heart into sharing his powerful story of growing up in silence, always feeling the need to hide the unbearable pain he was in. Through high school and into his early twenties, Kevin was known as the life of the party… until his very public suicide attempt at the Golden Gate Bridge changed everything. Since 2013, Kevin has captivated his audiences with his candidness about how he was able to overcome his pain and fully embrace himself in order to live his best life. He lives to inspire others to break their own silence and know that help is available. Kevin’s story of HOPE has touched a diverse group of audiences all around the world, including several magazine outlets, along with local and national news stations. Kevin’s story was also featured on the Steve Harvey Show, Red Table Talk, and the Dr. Phil Show. The photo of him standing on the 32-inch-wide beam, known as “the chord,” was on the front page of the San Francisco Chronicle and placed on the 75 most iconic photos of the 21st Century. Laura was a teenage girl in the '60s when she found out she was pregnant. With no support from the father of the child and feeling the shame of her circumstances from her parents, Laura found herself in a home for unwed mothers, feeling forced to give her baby up for adoption.
Laura wrote a book about her experience called You’ll Forget This Ever Happened, and according to Laura, one of the most rewarding things about writing her book has been readers reaching out to tell her how much her book has helped them as well as increased their knowledge of women’s lives in the 1960s and the Baby Scoop Era.
Laura L. Engel, an award-winning author, is originally from the Mississippi Gulf Coast. She moved to San Diego, California over 55 years ago. She lives with her husband, Gene and their beloved golden retriever, Layla. She is the mother of 5 adult children and 10 adored grandchildren.
Two scenes from Laura’s book have been performed live on stage at the San Diego Memoir Showcase and she is published in four Shaking the Tree anthologies as well as many online magazines including Writers Digest.
Today finds Laura’s life-long dream to write a book fulfilled. Her award-winning memoir You’ll Forget This Ever Happened was published May 2022 by She Writes Press. It became a Best Seller on Amazon and finalist in the 2023 International Book Awards and in the 2023 National Indie Excellence Awards. In August of 2023, Laura was honored to be selected as the Local Author for San Diego’s Downtown Central Library.

Laura was a teenage girl in the '60s when she found out she was pregnant. With no support from the father of the child and feeling the shame of her circumstances from her parents, Laura found herself in a home for unwed mothers, feeling forced to give her baby up for adoption.
Laura wrote a book about her experience called You’ll Forget This Ever Happened, and according to Laura, one of the most rewarding things about writing her book has been readers reaching out to tell her how much her book has helped them as well as increased their knowledge of women’s lives in the 1960s and the Baby Scoop Era.
Laura L. Engel, an award-winning author, is originally from the Mississippi Gulf Coast. She moved to San Diego, California over 55 years ago. She lives with her husband, Gene and their beloved golden retriever, Layla. She is the mother of 5 adult children and 10 adored grandchildren.
Two scenes from Laura’s book have been performed live on stage at the San Diego Memoir Showcase and she is published in four Shaking the Tree anthologies as well as many online magazines including Writers Digest.
Today finds Laura’s life-long dream to write a book fulfilled. Her award-winning memoir You’ll Forget This Ever Happened was published May 2022 by She Writes Press. It became a Best Seller on Amazon and finalist in the 2023 International Book Awards and in the 2023 National Indie Excellence Awards. In August of 2023, Laura was honored to be selected as the Local Author for San Diego’s Downtown Central Library.

S3E7 -OPEN ADOPTION BIRTH MOTHER AND ADOPTIVE MOM JENNY BECKNELL
Jenny is a wife of 28-1/2 years, a mother of 6 and a grandmother of 5. She is a birth mother and adoptive parent. Last year she and her husband adopted a boy who is 17, and her oldest is her 31-year-old ONLY daughter, who she had an open adoption with.
Jenny says the open adoption with her daughter included face-to-face visits, and that she was included and welcomed by the adoptive family for the first 18 years of her daughter's life.
Because of her experience as a birth mother, she feels it is very important for the correct information to be given to girls who find themselves at a crossroads with what to do with an unexpected pregnancy.
As an adoptive parent herself, she says that adoptive parents should know the truth about adoption and stresses how important it is for them to get the education and healing they need from the reasons they are seeking to adopt before they do so.
Jenny says this is her story, her experiences, her journey, and she is sharing this to help others. She realizes that in sharing her version, she will be talking about others that may have a differing account of the events discussed in this episode, and that they have the right to their experience as well.

S3E5 - WHEN TALKING ABOUT YOUR ADOPTION IS TABOO. INTERVIEW WITH ADOPTEE DAVID LANG
David is a 62-year-old retired Teamster that has been married for 37 years. He has three children and one grandson.
David was a baby scoop era adoptee, born in 1961 and placed with his adopted parents when he was one month old. Talking about his adoption was totally off limits, and this created a lot of confusion about his roots.
He began searching when he was 34 years old. It turned out his biological parents did get married and were still together. They seemed less than thrilled that David contacted them because David had been kept a secret from everyone in his biological family.
It wasn’t until his biological father died in 2017 that the secret was finally revealed, and he was able to have a relationship with his full biological siblings and extended family.

Adopted at birth, Edward Di Gangi was born and raised in New York City. Although he knew for most of his life that he was adopted, it wasn’t until he approached his 69th birthday that he began to search for the identity of his birth mother. His journey and the many surprising discoveries he made as he searched are recounted in his memoir, The Gift Best Given.
Edward and his wife now live in Hillsborough, North Carolina. He is a popular book club presenter and podcast guest. The Gift Best Given is his first full-length book.

Linguistics can be important to adoptees for several reasons, especially when it comes to understanding and navigating issues related to identity, culture, and communication. But what about how we speak affects us on the inside, how it feels in our bodies, and how it can either empower us or deflate us?
In this episode, I talk about how making a simple switch in how we talk to ourselves and others can make a huge shift in our authenticity and creating a life that we love.

Katie was adopted by extended family, but it was kept a secret until life in a small town caught up with them, and when the secret was out, it was dropped in her lap.
Katie is a project manager by day and an author by night. That is, when she’s also not being a full-time mom and wife. She considers herself lucky to have so many people in her life that care about her, both adoptive and biological. She channels themes of abandonment and found family into her writing as a tool for self-healing, and is an advocate for mental health as a survivor of it herself.

Meet Jacquelin Taybron, who is an adoptee 30 years post reunion with her biological mother and her siblings. She was born in Landstuhl, Germany, and her adoptive family was handpicked within the military community by her birth mom. At 15 months old, her adoption was finalized, and the very next day she relocated to the States with her adoptive family.

S2E89 ADOPTEE ELIZABETH SHARES HER STORY WITH MIND YOUR OWN KARMA
Elizabeth was born in the ‘60s in Washington, DC and relinquished to social services immediately thereafter. Her first family was Japanese, and she stayed with them as a foster baby for three and a half months. Her adopted family welcomed her, along with their adopted son, into the family.
The few details told to her parents and then to Elizabeth were that her mother was Greek, and so was her father, who was a chauffeur to the Greek Ambassador. Her father was older, and her mother in her 20s at the time of her birth.
All her life, Elizabeth felt the Greek connection and the desire to find her birth family. Her mother was the central focus. In 2017, she enrolled in two DNA websites, and for a year, all her connections were distant cousins with predominantly foreign names, until she connected with a close relative, possibly a first cousin or nephew. He was, in fact, her nephew who had been placed for adoption privately and had his birth family backstory.
This was her awakening as the complicated tale of her trans-continental birth family unfolded. Siblings have been reunited, and the story is one of survival for all of them.
Elizabeth shares her story as she sorts out her dual identity and her quest to cope with who she was born as & who she is becoming.

Michele Sickler was born and relinquished on Staten Island, NY in 1962. She was placed with her adoptive family at 3 weeks of age after being in foster care. She grew up in Queens, NY. Michele found her natural family almost 13 years ago, when she was 48. At that time, she found out her mother was African American, which wasn't disclosed in her adoption papers. She describes her reunion as difficult, as many adoptees do. Her natural mother died in 2015. She has been married for almost 40 years and has 4 adult children and 1 granddaughter. Jack Rocco, M.D. has more than 30 years as a practicing orthopedic and cosmetic surgeon. His work has taken him to many countries and cultures, including to Japan, where he served in the U.S. Air Force, and to Madagascar, where, through a nonprofit organization he established, he helped treat hundreds of children with devastating orthopedic deformities, predominantly including club foot.
Recycled, his first book, chronicles the behind-the-scenes, reluctant, and subconscious journey exploring the impact of being relinquished and adopted during the baby-scoop era of the mid-sixties. As he eventually finds his birth families, he also finds himself. He maintains homes outside of Charlotte, North Carolina and Hartford, Connecticut.

About Gigi:
Born in 1969. Left in the hospital at birth. The name they gave her, Ann Malone. Three days later, she was added to the foster care system, and at age 7 she found out she was adopted.
Now feeling like a square peg in a round hole, she tried to put her adoption in the back of her mind and move on. At age 19, she lost her adoptive mother, but made an unwelcome connection with her birth mother. But once again, she was rejected for a second time, and a few years later, rejected again for a third time.
Dealing with rejection played a large part in attracting unhealthy relationships and not understanding her own self-awareness. When GiGi was in the hospital surviving leukemia and a bone marrow transplant, discovering the importance of Breath-work and Meditation totally shifted her life! And she is learning to love herself even after years of feeling “unworthy and unwanted.”
Now she uses her platform to inspire and motivate people so that we will all be reminded that having a positive attitude can raise our vibrations and change the outcome of any situation!

Jean was born in 1965 in Spokane, WA at a Salvation Army hospital. Her birth mother came from North Dakota. Jean had a mostly good adoptee experience, and her parents were really wonderful, good people. Her dad was an educator and her mother a nurse. Not to say there weren’t challenges growing up, as Jean's mother was addicted to prescription drugs and alcohol by the time Jean came into their lives.
Today, Jean is a professional writer and business owner of a small-town media outlet, BoulderCity.com. She has worked retail and co-owned two successful e-commerce companies and now works as an online marketing consultant. When not working, she, her husband and two golden retrievers are traveling the western U.S.
Jean is currently working on a groundbreaking book called The Adoption Paradox.

S2E80 ADOPTEE RODGER TELLEFSON SHARES HIS STORY AND THOUGHTS ON ADOPTION

This week's interview is with Rodger Tellefson. Rodger was born in Sacramento, California at the Sutter Memorial Hospital and was adopted at 3 days old. Rodger recalls that at 9 years old, his adopted parents stood across the living room with their backs turned to Rodger and his younger adopted brother, and then they told the boys they were adopted without facing them. It wasn’t until 1982 when an older maternal sister, who was also an adoptee, found him and his life changed forever. At the time Rodger was found he was working, had just moved to a new residence and had a young family making it a challenge to reunite and make a connection with his biologicals. He later found that having different lifestyles and economic backgrounds was a factor as well in his union with some of his siblings.
He has a 2-year degree from a junior college and worked for the Army Corps of Engineers in Sacramento which he retired from in '04. He was married for 39.5 years to his late wife who passed in September 2011. He has a daughter, 46, and a son, 44.

Barbara Jean Liguori was born November 17, 1971 in the baby scoop era and adopted at 4 months old March 25, 1972. She currently lives in Branford, CT, but was raised in the New Haven area most of her life. She has been married for 27 years and is a mother of 2 biological sons and a stepmother of one daughter who has lived with Barbara since she was 3 years old. She has been in reunion with her biological mom and dad since she was 18, and she has one full biological brother.
Barbara has been the owner of Salon Massimo for the past 25 years and currently works there as a hairstylist along with her husband. She is currently writing a book on her life as an adoptee that should be published in the very near future. Her hopes are to share her story with other adoptees and hopefully bring some awareness and education to adoptive parents looking to adopt.
She also has a strong compassion for birth mothers, as she feels they have gone through tremendous trauma as well, which is most often overlooked or misunderstood.

S2E76 INTERVIEW WITH CORISSA SAINT LAURENT
Being given up for adoption at 3 years old, Corissa moved to the United States to be raised by a new family who didn’t look, sound, or act anything like what she was used to. This led to a deep sense of abandonment and uncertainty about her identity.
Corissa adapted. She had to. And in the process, she locked all of her needs, hurts, and traumas away where they wouldn’t interfere with the success of her life. Other childhood traumas piled upon the already shaky foundation.
There were some dark times.
Thankfully, she had been asking herself some big questions like, “Who am I?” and “Why am I here?” as she explored different metaphysical, religious, and spiritual philosophies. This curiosity carried her bludgeoned spirit to study abroad at the University of California, Irvine and onto an epic adventure with an unintended spiritual awakening.
On a mountainside in New Zealand, she experienced the Oneness of all that is. The light of the universe enveloped her and emanated from her. She was given the knowledge she was seeking … that she was one with everything, and her purpose was to light up her life and help others do the same.

S2E75 INTERVIEW WITH NICOLE KOHARIK
Nicole is a domestic, transracial adoptee born and raised in Cleveland, Ohio. She grew up knowing she was adopted. Her father, a decorated Marine turned Catholic priest, adopted her after she had been left with him when she was three years old. Mother’s Day has always been particularly difficult for Nicole, despite being a mother herself. Having been raised by a single father, it defined the fact that she did not fit in.
Early in her marketing career, Nicole joined the adoption community through volunteer work with Adoption Network Cleveland, a non-profit that supports everyone touched by adoption. After serving on the special events committee, Nicole was asked to join the Board of Directors. Through this work, she accepted adoption as a “complex, lifelong, intergenerational journey with ongoing impact for all whose lives are touched by it.” This epiphany helped her realize that her feelings of pain, confusion and self-doubt were a natural part of the adoptee journey – and inspired her to dive into the work of healing.
Nicole spent years on what she calls her journey of self-discovery, working to understand how being abandoned and adopted shaped her thought patterns, decisions and relationships. This journey inspired her to share her truth to validate and uplift her fellow adoptees. In 2019, she launched her blog and social media platforms, “The Adoptee In Me – a place to share the journey of self-discovery.”
Since then, Nicole has shared her lessons learned about identity, change, loss and love, aiming to inspire reflection and conversation to inspire adoptees to embrace their inner adoptees and build healing connections.
Since 2021, Nicole has served as a member of the Fireside Adoptees leadership team, where she leverages her 20+ years of marketing and communications expertise to help guide the organization’s mission and evolution in service to adoptees at every stage of their journey.
A few years ago, Nicole embarked on a new chapter of her adoptee journey to find the mother who left her behind at the age of three. The search began with her original birth certificate, involved multiple third-party organizations, and lasted much longer than anticipated. This latest chapter of her adoptee journey inspires Nicole to share her story about the emotional rollercoaster of search, self-discovery, loss and hope.

S2E74 INTERVIEW WITH ADOPTEE CHRISTY PERKINS

It was fall of 1964, and Sharon, Christy’s biological mother, was 16 years old and pregnant. Sharon made her way to a home for unwed mothers while her husband was in prison. On July 29, 1965, Christy entered the world.
At Christy’s foster home, she was growing into a toddler and at 2, she was a “Momma’s Girl” to her foster parent. All was well with the world, but she didn’t know that her ‘world’ as she knew it would soon be shattered. Her foster parents called her “Big Girl,” and when asked, Christy didn’t even know her given name, which was Lois on her original birth certificate. Eventually, she was adopted at the age of 3 to a well-off farmer and his wife... and in that moment, everything changed.
Years later, Christy decided to take a DNA test. 6 weeks later when she received her results, something wasn’t right. Instead of answers, she had many more questions. Why didn’t she match her known niece and nephews that were the grandkids of her father Larry? Could Larry not be her father? Who is this Kimberly that she matched 25% of her DNA with? She had to know.

Paige Adams Strickland is a teacher and writer from Cincinnati, Ohio. She is an adoptee in reunion from the Baby-Scoop-Era who searched and found her biological family in the 1980s.
Paige has written books and also film and play reviews, found on her WordPress blog, as a way to elevate the voices and talents of members of the adoption constellation.
Her two memoirs about being adopted are AKIN TO THE TRUTH and AFTER THE TRUTH. She has a work in progress with a working title of BORN ADOPTED & FINDING MY TRUTH. Born Adopted is geared toward teen and young adult readers.

This is the perfect episode for adoptees who have faced dead ends in their search! Valerie Naiman is such a great storyteller, and she brought a story to the studio that you need to hear. She also wants you to believe in yourself, and don't give up.
Valerie is an author, singer, songwriter, ontologist, environmentalist, ecovillage founder, travel and spiritual guide, beekeeper, and a mama to her dwarf goats. She's probably a Gemini, although her birth date is unknown.
Valerie holds a Master of Arts from the University of Miami, and is the president of the Spirit Foundation, an NPO that supports disenfranchised children.
Valerie’s new book, Mystic Masquerade, An Adoptee's Search for Truth, was compiled from decades of diaries and journals she wrote during her biological and spiritual search.
Valerie now lives in Asheville, NC with her honeybees and dwarf goats.

S2E71 KELLI MARRUFO and LINDA PEVAC (aka Emma Stevens)
In this episode, I interview two adoptees who are connected and who have larger-than-life adoption stories. Meet Kelli and Linda.
Kelli was the product of a pre-arranged adoption through a local church and her biological mother’s doctor. Her adoptive parents waited for notification of her birth and brought her home at 3 days old. She had a happy life, and she says her adoptive mom was the absolute best woman ever.
Unfortunately, since her adoptive mother’s death, she no longer has a relationship with her adoptive father and at this time does not have any communication with him. She says she does have an amazing relationship with her biological father and his side of the family, not so much with her biological mother who after a rocky reunion, she has no contact with now, as many adoptees can relate.
Kelli has a celebrity adoptee for a cousin that joins us later in the episode. Everyone in the adoptee community knows her as Emma Stevens. Emma discusses why she decided to recently reveal her real name, Linda Pevac, and why she used a pseudonym in the first place.
Emma Stevens is a U.S. domestic adoptee from birth and has survived layers of trauma that have put her on multiple journeys. Her traumas were born from first being relinquished and then becoming an adoptee who struggled with being forced to play the part of the “good adopted child.”
Her childhood upbringing in an authoritative, cult-like family predisposed Emma to several more struggles. One of them was falling prey to an exploitative therapist where she unknowingly entered a cultic, one-on-one relationship with her psychologist. Someone who was to help, support, and provide healing, instead held Emma captive in a psychological nightmare.
Because of these past traumas, it’s Emma’s desire to be part of the movement that is dedicated to help bring forth change to the way our world views the needs and support of adopted individuals, as well as bring awareness of the exploitation that can occur by the hands of counselors, therapists, and other healthcare professionals.
Emma has written two books. Her first was The Gathering Place: An Adoptee’s Story. The second is A Fire Is Coming. She has an undergraduate degree in journalism and has completed Master’s level course work in psychology, specializing in Marriage, Family, and Child counseling. She has two adult children and two cat children who she adores.

S2E67 INTERVIEW WITH ADOPTEE REGINA GOLDMAN - SMGI & EMOTIONAL HEALING FOR THE PRIMAL WOUND
Regina Goldman is an adoptee, Somatic Mindful Guided Imagery guide, a Clarity Breathwork practitioner, and Intuitive Reader. She was born in San Francisco and adopted by an Israeli mother and an American father. She grew up in the Bay Area, and from age 16 lived abroad in Israel, off and on, for a total of 8 years. She met both her birth parents at age 27.
Regina has been on a path of personal discovery and healing since she was 13 years old. She began in her 20s to develop her psychic abilities to understand better what was going on in her relationships, and then over time turned much more toward what was happening within herself. This led her to become a certified Clarity Breathwork practitioner in 2006 after witnessing the immense healing power of this modality in her own life. In 2017 Regina became a co- owner of a spiritual shop and event space in Berkeley, CA where she co- led monthly breathwork groups, co- facilitated workshops, and saw clients.
After the completion of that chapter in her life, she was then led by Spirit to a healing method that she really enjoyed doing where she received quick, powerful results for her clients. That modality was Somatic Mindful Guided Imagery (SMGI). Regina now works with clients within these modalities in person in a healing studio in Sausalito, CA, or online via Zoom.

Amy is a domestic adoptee, born in 1969. She was placed for adoption at birth. She grew up in a loving family and was well cared for. She was the "happy" adoptee, so grateful to her birth parents, her adopted parents and always trying to make everyone happy.
She has reunited with some of her birth family over the past 5 years and recently came out of the FOG.
She’s beginning to realize she was living behind the disguise of a happy, positive person who didn’t know the loss and grief she was carrying. Today Amy feels sad, confused, and angry about her adoption and feels that sharing her story is being honest for the first time in her life.
Amy has been married to a wonderfully supportive husband for 30 years. They have 3 amazing adult children and 2 golden retrievers. She enjoys the outdoors and spending time with family and friends.

S2E65 INTERVIEW WITH ADOPTEE DANA OZAK
***This podcast may contain triggering content about adoption.*** Dana was born at St. John’s Hospital in Cleveland in 1973. She was adopted through Catholic Charities in November of 1973. Her adoption was never kept a secret from her, but she still wondered where she came from.
She was able to find her biological mother’s name after the state of Ohio released her OBC (Original Birth Certificate). Sadly, she also found out her biological mother had passed away and there was no birth father listed.
The journey to find her biological father and uncover the truth about her past would send her through a roller coaster of emotions. Ultimately, it led her to positive connections with her younger maternal half- sister, biological father, and four younger half-brothers.
