Dr Mathew Leonardi is an advanced gynecological surgeon and sonologist (ultrasound specialist) at McMaster University Medical Centre in Hamilton, Canada. He has been awarded his Ph.D. from the University of Sydney, which focused on the utility of ultrasound in diagnosing and managing endometriosis. 83. Did not have pain but had stage 4 endometriosis that was discovered during her fertility journey and now has her "miracle babies."

Join me today as I chat with Jill; we talk about her treatment with Clear Passage and how it helped her on her fertility journey. Jill did not have any pain with her cycles- she did have heavy bleeding, and her Mother had endo, but because she did not present with the pain, she did not think she could have endo. Jill started to have cysts and pain when she started fertility treatments which led her to three surgeries and a stage 4 endo diagnosis. She wanted to find alternative methods to help her, and she went to Clear Passage- Larry joins us to tell us more about the method they use to break up adhesions and scar tissue.

74. Living in service of others, founding Endo Black and living with endometriosis. Lauren R. Kornegay

Lauren R. Kornegay, founder of Endo Black joins us this month.

Diagnosed with endometriosis at the age of 20, Lauren experienced the pain, struggles, exhaustion, and confusion that accompany the disorder. This led her on a search to find someone that looked like her, who was also dealing with endometriosis.

Having previously searched social media, websites, and other avenues, she knew something had to change. Her mother always told her, “If there’s a void, fill it, and if you want something done, do it yourself.” Lauren believes in “creating a space where there is no space.”

So in October of 2015, Lauren established Endo Black, Inc., a platform designed to connect African American women and women of color affected by endometriosis.

Join us today as she talks about her endo story, living a life of service, and her endo story.

Check out https://www.endoblack.org/ for all of the events and details we talked about on today's show.

70. When pain progresses to daily and why do we second guess ourselves when we have endo?

Her cycle started painful, heavy, and irregular. She thought it was normal and was told this was just something she had to live with.  We chat about how the symptoms start to build as time goes on until the time that endo pain becomes daily. How the pain can vary from day to day and month to month.  She often had cyst ruptures. We also talk about why do we second guess ourselves when we know the pain is real?

63. Told over & over she did not have endo & how serendipity helped her finally get her diagnosis.

Cara's pain started with back pain in her early teens. She was told several times she did not have endo even though she knew in her gut something was off. She knew about endo from a friend who had it but was told over and over again she did not have endo. Her pain began to grow into daily life.  She talks about how she advocated for herself (and how it can be difficult as a younger teenager) She did know she had a cyst rupture, and another large cyst formed as well.  She finally found a doctor that would listen to her and understood what she was going through.

She was not sure if her Mother had endo, but she did have a hysterectomy* at 30 years old. (*hysterectomy is not a cure for endo) She stopped birth control at 24 years old. In 2014, Genika went to her doctor and discovered that she had two fibroids she needed to have surgery to prevent the growth further. She decided to have a partial hysterectomy. She healed up well, felt great, and was back at work soon after.

Starting in 2015 she began to have chronic pain and it was getting worse as the months went on, she thought it may be hemorrhoids. She consulted with her doctors who suggested it may be chronic constipation. She was referred to a GI doctor, she was having pain in her buttocks as well as vaginal bleeding. She knew something was not right....
