Ep 157 - Cheryl Strauss Einhorn- Becoming a Better Decision Maker

"How do I improve my results?"

This is a question we all ask ourselves, whether it's in our cycling and triathlon performance, or professionally. While there are a number of ways we can improve our results, the crux of this question boils down to the core of: How do I become a better decision maker? In this episode we talk with Cheryl Strauss Einhorn to learn how to improve our decision making process by improving the process itself, and learning how to better tackle and recognize our blind spots, biases, and poor practices.

About Cheryl: Cheryl Strauss Einhorn founded Decisive, a decision sciences company that trains people and teams in complex problem solving and decision-making skills using the AREA Method. AREA is an evidence-based decision-making system that uniquely controls for and counters cognitive bias to expand knowledge while improving judgment. Cheryl developed AREA during her two decades as an award-winning investigative journalist writing for publications ranging from The New York Times and Foreign Policy Magazine to Barron’s and The Stanford Social Innovation Review. Cheryl teaches at Cornell University and has authored two books Problem Solved, A Powerful System for Making Complex Decisions with Confidence and Conviction, about personal and professional decision-making, and Investing In Financial Research, A Decision-Making System for Better Results about financial and investment decisions. Ep 144- Andrew Coates- Social Media Savvy, Being a Better Coach & Advocate for Your Clients

Social media can be a very tricky world...so what's an athlete and coach to do? We sat down to talk about maneuvering through the social media sea, and how to be a better coach and advocate to your athletes and clients, with Andrew Coates. Andrew has been one of the positive and upbeat lights in fitness social media the last few years, gaining "overnight success" since the pandemic. Eloquent, well spoken, and always looking for the good in things, Andrew shares with us some of his perspectives on building a thriving coaching practice, and how to help you clients get the best results possible... sometimes, by connecting them with another coach or professional who can serve them better for that realm- and why BOTH of you will win big.

143- Zoe Backstedt, Chris Peden & Magnus Backstedt on Strength Training & Performance Development

If you haven't heard of Zoe Backstedt yet, you may not be much into the juniors levels of racing. But I really hope that todays episode with MULTI-DISCIPLINE and Multi-World Champion Zoe, and her performance team, will help you understand the massive wave of changes to how training is done for performance in cycling are happening.... and it's all coming as a trickle-up from the juniors. Thanks in large part to forward thinking coaches and parents, who, instead of relying on "research to tell them what works", would rather look for inspiration and ideas from other sports and realms of performance, to identify trends that are working.

In this weeks episode, forward looking folks are Strength Coach Chris Peden and Magnus Backstedt, who have sought out far better ways to help Zoe attain her "best self", through practicing a variety of sports, utilizing consistent strength training (not how everyone thinks or does it), and allowing Zoe to focus on the overall goal of ENJOYMENT of the process, not just results.

This interview is such a breath of fresh air in todays world of "research based practices" and "technology driving performance", as rather than taking a reductionist point of view, Zoe, Chris, and Magnus look for things that will help keep it fun, stay on track of the overall performance goals, all while allowing Zoe to be her best self, and have quite a bit of fun while doing so!

Dr. Stuart McGill's lifetime of work has been studying the Lower back to figure out the mechanics and many mechanisms that causes pain....and how to better treat lower back pain. I'll be spending this weekend with Dr. McGill and some of my fellow BackfitPro certified family members, to learn, hone, and refine how we work to help those with back pain....so what better episode to share from the archives, than the interview Dr. McGill and i did back at the start of the SSCT podcast.

Ep. 136- Getting Started in Strength Training at the End of Your Season

As the season winds down, many of us are already thinking about hitting the weight to build the stronger and improved "you" for next season. While the inclination is to jump right into weight training and adding more weight to the bar, or repetitions to the set, there are actually a few things you should know if you're looking to significantly improve yourself to better performances and PR's next season.
