The conversation pivots around Ayurveda’s concept of the three elemental energies - fire, earth, and air - and how understanding one's dominant element can significantly influence personalized yoga practices for improved mental and physical well-being.

Larkin illustrates the impact of these elemental energies on personality traits and behaviors, suggesting specific yoga practices to balance the dominant element. For individuals with a fiery essence, characterized by ambition and leadership but prone to impatience, Larkin recommends grounding yoga practices to foster stability and calm. Similarly, for those with a dominant air energy, marked by creativity but susceptible to feeling overwhelmed, she advocates for yoga practices that emphasize grounding and stability to cultivate focus and tranquility.

The podcast emphasizes the importance of recognizing one's dominant elemental energy to tailor yoga practices accordingly, addressing specific imbalances and enhancing overall well-being. Deep belly breathing and grounding techniques are spotlighted as effective methods for activating the parasympathetic nervous system, reducing stress, and promoting relaxation.

Furthermore, the episode explores the balance of masculine and feminine energies within individuals, highlighting its significance for holistic health and personal growth.

WHAT IS YOURS TRULY?

Yours Truly™ is a comprehensive online program that blends the principles and evidence-based practices of nervous system regulation, embodiment and psychoeducation to help you learn how to not just know better, but actually do better when it comes to relating to yourself and others in a healthy way.

It consists of 50 short videos and a 45-page workbook that anyone can do from anywhere at their own pace.

WHAT PROBLEMS DOES YOURS TRULY FIX?

Smart, sensitive people almost always try to fix the stuff that feels crappy in their life by thinking (usually overthinking) about it, even though it doesn’t work.

That’s because, despite intellectually knowing better, they’re being run by the unconscious stress responses of their nervous system and by deeply embodied but fatally flawed relational conditioning. This conditioning leads them to do things like take care of others at their own expense, or push people away when what they really want is closeness, or to never really feel at home in their own skin.

Yours Truly is embodiment meets neuroscience meets an empathetic guide who’s been there and come through the other side—so that smart, sensitive people can finally get the training they need to have more control over how they show up and more closeness in the relationships that matter most to them.

Remi Adele: Never Giving Up w/ former Nigerian Royal turned US Navy SEAL and Filmmaker

Remi Adele: Never Giving Up w/ former Nigerian Royal turned US Navy SEAL and Filmmaker

We are excited to speak with our guest today - Remi Adeleke - US Navy SEAL… He is one of the most inspiring guests we have had on the show to date.

We thought there isn't a better and more enticing way to start the show than to talk about some of the great things Remi has accomplished. Check out this guy's resume and he is still in his 40s .

Remi was born into a wealthy and prominent family in Lagos Nigeria - His father due to the corruption within the Nigerian and Logos government ended up losing all of their wealth and he sadly died when Remi was 5yo. Now penniless, Remi, his mother and brother moved to the United states and settled into the rough side of The Bronx.

Growing up on the streets Remi witnessed a drive-by shooting, was beat up by some local gang bangers, got in trouble with the law on more than one occasion. Ran and profited off a cell phone scam that involved local drug dealers - he lost all that money too.

He heard a calling and joined the US military and became a Navy SEAL - Class 266. Remi endured Hell Week twice due to a medical roll back. As a SEAL he was eventually deployed to Iraq.

Remi found God - learned to meditate - and now works as an actor and filmmaker in Hollywood with Michael Bay.

He is married to a pediatrician and together they have four kids

In 2019 he Published: Transformed: A Navy SEAL’s Unlikely Journey from the Throne of Africa, to the Streets of the Bronx, to Defying All Odds” that has racked up over 1000 reviews on Amazon.

And his latest accomplishment was the Sept 2022 release of this film “The Unexpected” that brings awareness to the growing problem of human trafficking.

WOW!

How to Manage Anger in Our Closest Relationships

How to Manage Anger in Our Closest Relationships

In this insightful episode of "Men Talking Mindfulness," hosts Jon Macaskill and Will Schneider delve into the complex and often misunderstood emotion of anger. Our focus is not just on what anger is, but on its profound impact on our physiology, emotions, and behaviors, especially within our most important relationships.

We begin by defining anger and its various expressions, from mild irritation to intense fury, and explore its opposites – pleasure and good humor. As we dissect the physiological responses triggered by anger, including the activation of the sympathetic nervous system and its 'fight or flight' effects, we also examine the emotional and behavioral repercussions that follow.

The discussion then shifts to understanding the triggers of anger, its manifestations in different environments, and the impact of external factors like substances and stress. We explore how anger can damage our relationships at home, work, and in the community, and how it positions the recipient, often leading to defensive or hurt responses.

Crucially, we address what feeds anger – from internal factors like resistance and lack of self-care to external influences like preconceived notions and expectations. We also offer strategies to prevent anger, highlighting the importance of self-awareness, mindfulness, and seeking professional help.

As we navigate through these topics, we reveal how anger can be a thief of opportunity, leading to conflict, selfishness, and regret. However, we also discuss when and how anger can be healthy and constructive.

To wrap up, we provide listeners with practical tools for managing anger, including breathing techniques, mindfulness practices, and tips for starting the journey to better anger management.

Join us for this deep dive into understanding anger, mitigating its negative effects, and harnessing its energy for positive change in our lives and relationships.

In this episode of Men Talking Mindfulness, we welcome back Dr. Shauna “Doc” Springer, a globally recognized expert on psychological trauma, military transition, and close relationships. Known as a trusted Doc to our nation's military warfighters, her insights have shaped trauma recovery approaches and have been sought by renowned platforms from CNN to Psychology Today. Previously, we discussed Men and Therapy. This time, we pivot our focus to a profound and deeply impactful topic: Moral Injury. As the author of acclaimed books like 'WARRIOR: How to Support Those Who Protect Us' and co-author of 'BEYOND THE MILITARY: A Leader’s Handbook for Warrior Reintegration', Doc Springer is uniquely positioned to guide us through the complexities of moral wounds, often suffered by those who face situations that clash with their ethical or moral beliefs. With her two decades of experience at the extremities of human experience, we'll explore the nuances of moral injury, its effects on individuals and communities, and the path to healing and reconciliation. Through the lens of Doc Springer's extensive work with our nation's defenders and her innovative approach combining biological and psychological interventions, this conversation promises deep introspection, enlightenment, and understanding. Join us for a journey into the heart of moral consciousness, its fractures, and the resilient spirit that seeks to mend it. Whether you're a veteran, a loved one, or someone who seeks to understand the depths of human experience, this episode offers a beacon of insight and hope.

A Meditation for Dealing with Loss

A Meditation for Dealing with Loss

This guided meditation for dealing with loss aims to provide emotional support and a sense of peace during challenging times. The meditation starts by encouraging deep, mindful breathing to anchor you in the present moment. It then guides you through acknowledging the feelings associated with loss, emphasizing that they are a natural part of the human experience.

The meditation includes a body awareness scan to identify and release areas of physical tension, often a byproduct of emotional stress. Following this, it employs a visualization technique featuring a warm, comforting light to ease sorrow and pain.

The session also invites you to confront and observe your emotions without judgment, likening them to clouds passing in the sky. A practice of letting go is included, where you breathe in to gather your pain and breathe out to release it, imagining it being transformed into healing energy by the earth. The meditation concludes with a moment of gratitude, focusing on one positive aspect despite the hardships.

Overall, this meditation is designed as a tool to help you cope with the complex emotions that come with any form of loss, whether it be a loved one, job, friendship, or competition. It aims to facilitate healing and offer a sense of calm in the midst of difficulty.
