WE ARE BACK! After a little hiatus, the Messer Brothers return to the podcasting world! This episode Craig & Nick look at a pretty recent local story involving a teenage girl, a murder, and a house party. Also, Craig & Nick continue the podcast tradition of interpreting the Top 5 list in different, yet sort of similar, ways.

In 1980, 32-year-old Granger Taylor, who was said to be a mechanical genius, disappeared, never to be seen again. He left behind a note for his parents which said he was leaving on a "42-month interstellar voyage" aboard an alien ship. The night of his disappearance, a huge storm passed through Taylor's hometown. In 1986, the remnants of a truck, thought to be Taylor's, were found on a nearby mountain. Did Granger Taylor die in the storm that destroyed his truck? Or did aliens really pick him up that night and take him on a journey from which he has yet to return? Or was there another explanation? Join Craig & Doug as they discuss this strange disappearance.

Craig & Nick create another on-the-fly tale (like the one heard in "The (Soon To Be) Famous Story of George Nelson"). The story this time follows a West Virginia coal miner. Also, the Messer Brothers reveal their top 10 non-mainstream albums. 

Nick is back! And he returns just in time for a talk about the "Mandela Effect." The guys look at some of the commonly known examples of the Mandela Effect to see how their memories line up. Also, we reflect on a certain anniversary date that we sort of forgot about!

In 1960s West Virginia several people saw a strange, shadowy "something" fly over them. It was 7 feet tall, with 10-foot wings, and red eyes. It soon became known as "The Mothman," and was said to be a prophet of disaster. Some years later, there were several more sightings of a "mothman" in the Chicago area. What is this strange creature? Is it a very large bird? Or some weird hybrid of man and bird? Or maybe just a figment of someone's imagination? Join Craig & Doug as they discuss this unexplained phenomenon. 

It was a totally normal day when Michael Edwin Hearon left his home to go mow the grass on his farm in Happy Valley, Tennessee. A totally normal day...until Michael drove by a neighbors house on his four-wheeler and was never seen again. The four-wheeler was found abandoned, and there was no sign of Michael. Join Craig & Doug as they examine the case.

It's time for something a little different! The Messer Brothers recap the wonderful year of 2020, and offer a fun and scary, and sorta outrageous, story. We won't try to explain it, you'll just have to listen to find out what it's all about!

The Messer Brothers continue the strange story of the Bell Witch, which terrorized the family of farmer John Bell, Sr. in Tennessee during the early 1800s. This unusual spirit slapped people around, sang hymns, carried on conversations with the Bell family, and is blamed for the death of at least one person. Listen to find out which badass U.S. president had his own encounter with the Bell Witch!

The Messers are back with season 3! The brothers dip into their all time favorite country songs and give you a taste of the world famous, terrifying "Bell Witch."

It's almost Thanksgiving, so today's episode is all about being thankful. While Nick is at work being thankful for a paycheck, Craig & Doug go through their top 10 lists of things they are thankful for. (In Doug's case, that would be a top 6 list. Apparently, Doug isn't very thankful.) It's not as simple as most people think, and there are a lot of ways that the outcome of an election can be decided. Craig makes it easy to understand and does so in a non-biased way. Craig, Nick, and Doug take a break from the missing and unexplained to look at one of the best decades in music history and reveal their top 10 songs of the 1980s. You've got to listen to this one! Hear Nick's renditions of his top heavy metal picks, discover what it is that Doug wants to know (and who he wants to show him), and find out what eighties song made Craig a karaoke celebrity.

In October 1978, twenty-year-old Australian pilot Frederick Valentich set out for a short flight along with coast in a rented plane. He never reached his destination. While communicating with an air traffic controller during the flight, Valentich claimed to see an unidentified aircraft, with a bright green light, darting all around him. His last communication: "It's not an aircraft." Witnesses on the coast claimed to have seen the lights of Valentich's plane in the distance with a long, green light hovering directly above it. Of course, a lot of people concluded aliens had taken Valentich. But as usual, there is always more to the story... Join Craig & Doug as they discuss this mysterious disappearance. Also, Craig reveals his top 8 Halloween movies. (Doug doesn't like Halloween)

In 1969, six-year-old Dennis Martin was on a hiking trip with his family and friends in the Great Smoky Mountains. One afternoon, he stepped away from his family for a few minutes...and was never seen again. In the two weeks that followed, the largest search ever conducted in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park took place. Over 1,400 people searched for Dennis, covering a 50-mile radius, but they never found a trace of him. The search teams included members of the National Guard, and, somewhat strangely, a team of US Army Special Forces (Green Berets). A significant amount of military equipment was brought in to be used in the search, and even the President of the US himself (Nixon at the time) was said to be monitoring the situation...which is pretty unusual for a case of one person lost in the woods. 

So what happened to Dennis? And why was the US Government so interested in finding him? And what connection is there, if any, between Dennis and a strange man spotted by tourists a few miles away? Craig & Doug cover all this and more in this episode!

In 1954, in the small town of Bladenboro, NC, numerous animals were found crushed, decapitated, and sometimes drained of blood. These strange animal deaths were attributed to "the Beast." What was the Beast? Some say it looked like a large cat-like creature, some thought it was a bear or a mountain lion. Whatever it was, as many as 1,000 people embarked on a hunt for it in January of 1954, and at least three people claimed to have killed it. Still, to this day no one is really sure what it actually was. Did the Beast even really exist? Craig & Nick (yes, Nick's back!) talk about their theories.

In this bonus episode, Craig & Doug finish their discussion of alien abductions (which Nick didn't want to talk about!) with the Travis Walton abduction, which inspired a book and movie called "Fire In The Sky." In 1975, Walton and 6 other men encountered a glowing object in the woods. Walton moved closer to get a good look at it and was hit by a beam of light. His friends fled the scene, and when they returned later, Walton was gone. He later returned with a fantastic story of his experience onboard the alien craft. Was this abduction the real thing? Craig & Doug talk about their theories.

In 1976, four men went on a camping trip in the Allagash Wilderness of Maine, where they had an encounter with a strange bright light while night fishing on the lake. Twelve years later, two of the men began having disturbing nightmares in which they were being examined by inhuman beings in a strange place. All four men soon found they had repressed memories of an alien abduction. Were these men really abducted by aliens on that night? Was it a shared hallucination? Or did they come up with the story as a money-making scheme? Craig and Doug (yes, Nick is off again!) discuss the case and their theories. Also, find out the guys top 10 favorite places!

The guys talk about their top 5 trips of all time. Doug fills in for Nick as our look at the disappearance of Zebb Quinn continues. Some time after Zebb disappeared, his car was found with some unusual contents. Craig & Doug discuss this development, as well as several more developments in the case...many of which came more than 15 years after Zebb's disappearance. Is the case closed? Well...not quite. Today, Doug the sound man joins the Messer Brothers as they look at the case of Zebb Quinn, who went missing in January of 2000 from Asheville, NC. Quinn and a friend/co-worker went out one night to look at a vehicle Quinn was thinking of purchasing. After a quick stop at a gas station, where the final images of Quinn were recorded on a store security camera, a strange sequence of events involving a page, a distressing phone call, and a minor vehicle accident took place. Quinn supposedly drove off into the night, never to be seen again. But what really happened that night? Also, Craig & Nick reveal their top 10 songs of the 1990s. (And Doug reveals his top 5!)

On Valentine's Day 1971, a nursing student and a student at NC State went on a date...and were never seen alive again. Their bodies would be found almost two weeks later in the woods where they had been tortured and killed. Nearly 50 years later, their killer has never been found and the case is still open. The Messer Brothers talk about the details of the case. And on a lighter note, Craig reveals his top 10 summer movies, while Nick reveals his top 4 (Nick didn't do his homework).

Today the Messers pay tribute to the legendary Charlie Daniels, who passed away July 6th, with their lists of his top 10 songs. Also, Craig discusses a legend from the Cherokee tribe...the Moon-eyed people. 

Happy Independence Day! For this special July 4th episode, Craig & Nick dive into their lists of the top 10 things "made in the USA"! Also, we go way back to 1776 to talk about the Declaration of Independence, and the Messer family's connection to the Revolutionary War.

They appear out of nowhere near Brown Mountain in North Carolina...balls of light that float around and sometimes silently explode. But no one is really sure what causes them, or why they appear at Brown Mountain and nowhere else. Could they be natural gas that's somehow ignited? Or do they have a more supernatural origin? The Messers look at this unexplained phenomenon. Also, get ready for the brothers' top 5 "second bananas" in TV and movies. (We'll let Craig explain that one!) 

The recipe for a perfect summer episode: summertime music, the beach, and sharks! Today the brothers are joined by a special guest: the "Messer Cousin" Adam! First, Craig, Nick, & Adam discuss their top 10 summer songs (or in Craig's case, his top 11).  Next, the Messers take us back to the Myrtle Beach area to talk about the "Cherry Grove Pier Beast," a massive 1,780 pound shark caught by Walter Maxwell in June of 1964. Nick also reveals his personal experiences in shark fishing at Myrtle Beach.

Today Craig & Nick look at the mysterious disappearance of Brittanee Drexel, who went to Myrtle Beach, SC for a spring break trip and was never seen again. What happened to this young girl and who were the last people to see her? We talk about the theories. Also, the Messers reveal their top 5 actors and actresses.

Sound man Doug is a special guest this episode while Nick is on vacation. Craig & Doug look at the death of actor George Reeves, who played Superman on TV in the 1950s. Reeves' death in 1959 was officially ruled a suicide...but a lot of things just don't add up. Why did Reeves' fiancee and friends who were downstairs wait so long to call the police after finding him dead? Why were there two bullet holes in the floor of his bedroom, hidden under a throw rug? Who was the person who threatened to kill Reeves' fiancee, and called Reeves' house 20 times a day in the weeks before his death? And did this person have a motive to kill him? Find out some of the theories in this episode! Also, Craig & Doug run down the lists of their top 5 comic book heroes. (Guess which character is Doug's #1!)

Teresa "Trenny" Gibson vanished from Clingman's Dome in the Smoky Mountains in 1976 while on a school field trip. One minute she was there...and then she was never seen again. Only one teacher was on the trip to supervise, and the kids, their parents, and the school didn't even know where they were going until that day. The Messers discuss the case and their theories on what happened to Trenny. Also, Craig & Nick talk about their all-time top 5 TV shows.

For the season 2 opener (yes, season 2!) Craig & Nick discuss another local missing person, Derek Lueking, who disappeared in 2012 near Cherokee, NC. Why did Lueking buy $1,000 worth of survival equipment, drive out into the mountains, and then completely vanish, leaving all of the survival equipment behind? And is there a connection between Lueking and another man found dead in the same area? The Messer Brothers talk background and theories in this brand new episode!

Everyone has heard of Bigfoot...unless you've been living under a rock, in which case you might BE Bigfoot. But is Bigfoot real? The Messer Brothers look at some possible local sightings of the man (monster?) himself and discuss some theories in this introduction to Bigfoot.

The conclusion of the JFK story. Is there a connection between the assassination and a future US President? Who were the two people spotted by multiple witnesses on the 6th floor of the book depository? Craig & Nick discuss these questions and present their theory of what really happened that day in November 1963.

The day after Kennedy was assassinated, Lee Harvey Oswald was killed on live TV by nightclub owner Jack Ruby. Ruby himself died in 1967, leaving a lot of things unanswered. Craig & Nick discuss Ruby and his possible reasons for killing Oswald. They also examine some of the theories surrounding the assassination of JFK, including the "umbrella man" and the multiple shooter theory.

The beginning of a multi-part series on the JFK assassination and the Kennedy family. Craig & Nick take a look at the lives of John F. Kennedy and Lee Harvey Oswald, as well as some of the events leading up to that fateful day in Dallas. Craig also presents some theories on Lee Harvey Oswald's role in the assassination. Where is Blackbeard's lost treasure? Craig & Nick take a look at the infamous Edward Teach, aka Blackbeard, and talk about the possible locations of his treasure, which has never been found. We also look into some other undiscovered treasures said to be hidden a little closer to the NC mountains. Craig & Nick look into the case of D.B. Cooper, a man who hijacked a Boeing 727 in 1971, got a $200,000 ransom, and got away with it! We discuss the case, and look at some of the suspects who could have been the real D.B. Cooper.
