S5: E3 The Wrong Shoe Theory

S5: E3 The Wrong Shoe Theory

This week, Dr. Melissa Carrick (welcome back, Missy!) and I talk about signs and how we make meaning of them. After a recent style challenge, Missy came to a realization about her style (and life) through our work together! Then we chat all about Allison Bornstein’s Wrong Shoe Theory, which opens up a new way of thinking about “right vs. wrong” and playing with an unexpected shoe choice as the right next step.

You might like to read Allison's book, Wear It Well.

S3: E10 Choosing Entrepreneurism Part 2

Let's take a brief break from style pitfalls, as it's been 5 months since I first discussed Choosing Entrepreneurism, and it's time for an update! I recently made a big life transition (sold my home + seeking where-to next!), and it felt appropriate to share more about my spiritual journey as I continue to choose entrepreneurism. I've had several great coaches, mentors, and friends to support me along the way, and this week's episode builds on the importance of a growth mindset and personal healing as business owners.

S2: E2 Exploring Made-to-Measure Clothing with Julie Mallatt of J.Hilburn

S2: E2 Exploring Made-to-Measure Clothing with Julie Mallatt of J.Hilburn

Julie Mallatt is a native midwesterner, who now resides in Boston, MA, where she is an Executive Partner with J.Hilburn, a men's custom clothing brand. As a men's stylist for the last 12+ years, she eliminates the traditional retail store by working directly with her clients via appointment (virtual or in-person). She will measure and assist with curating a wardrobe from work-week to weekend that is uniquely the client's own. J.Hilburn also prides itself on a sustainable model of fashion by making one custom piece at a time versus producing multiple garments in a variety of sizes.

Host Note: Julie and I had a further conversation regarding gender identity that was not captured in this episode. We wanted to make a point of clarification for our listeners. J.Hilburn will make clothing for anyone within the parameters of the brand, and it is worth noting that their patterns are built from a male body. For example, there are no darts at the chest area on a shirt, as opposed to what you might find on a women's shirt. Clients may need tailoring and can always return the garment if not satisfied.

Julie can be found on the web. For those who might be interested in becoming a stylist with J.Hilburn, please contact Julie for more information. Gift certificates are also available for purchase.
