Episode 20: Dark Roast

Episodes with music are only available on Spotify.

In this episode of the Midtown Coffee Radio Hour entitled "Dark Roast", we delve into the darkness. Well, it's October in South Dakota so we don't really have a choice... we might as well embrace it, right? We really do love the dark side of things... songs, stories, sleepy time. Fear Falls Radio Theater is back to tell us a wonderfully creepy tale, we give our costume suggestions for Halloween, and we do a dark "roast" of our somewhat beloved Sioux Falls. This time of year gives us that bittersweet feeling of loving this season while being filled with dread for the upcoming one. We hope you enjoy it as much as we did!

We have to give a huge thank our sponsor for this show, the Live and Local Series from the Washington Pavilion! Check out a new local act every third Thursday of the month through May! https://www.washingtonpavilion.org/search?searchs=live+and+local

Episode 19: Park Day!

Episode 19: Park Day!

Episodes with music are only available on Spotify.

On this nineteenth episode of our little show, we took it to our favorite place - the park! Midtown Coffee Radio Hour performed at the McKennan Park Pavilion in early September and, once again, almost got rained out. Thankfully, we were able to perform our show that was packed with feel-good songs both new and old, skits about karma and fancy park people, and one very exciting dramatic read-aloud about the lavish life of Flower the dog. We loved chatting with neighborhood mom and friend, Mary Ritter, about park life and explored the history of Helen McKennan, the park's namesake. This was such a fun show and we are so thankful to Molten Audio for capturing it for us!

Big BIG thanks to our first ever sponsors to help us put on a free show at the park - FriendsLINK, Chris and Co., and Different Folk Records. Friends, check out these organizations because they are run by the best people we know. Also, thanks to everyone who donated as well!

Episode 18: Midtown Coffee Grounds

Episodes with music are only available on Spotify.

Midtown Coffee Radio Hour proudly presents our May 2023 show entitled, "Midtown Coffee Grounds." This episode was recorded in front of a LIVE audience at the ICON Events Hall in downtown Sioux Falls. We were in the midst of graduation season and the spring that came the long, cold winter, so we were thinking about beginnings and endings... We met back up with the potholes as Matt ventured back onto his bike, the tulips were back and pettier than ever, and had the wonderful Hunter Winklepleck talk with us about his work at a nursing home, and had some texts from Mom that had to be shared! This one took awhile to get published, but we think it's worth the wait. Remember, Midtowners, we'll always give you a Grandma Olga Special - all you have to do is ask!

Episode 17: "Midtown Goes Downtown"

Episodes with music are only available on Spotify.

Midtown Coffee Radio Hour proudly presents our March 2023 show entitled, "Midtown Goes Downtown." This episode was recorded in front of a LIVE and loose audience at the ICON Events Hall in downtown Sioux Falls. It was our first show in DTSF so we celebrated with all things big city! We imagined what preschool for potholes would be like, had Vaney Hariri from Flyover Country and Think3D Solutions join us for a delightful game of Mad Libs, and read texts from our Midtown Moms! Dave Holly was back as host and the House Blend was on their A game, as per usual, singing songs about cities and such. Also, please excuse the "explicit" content... Uptown Funk as a few too many "hot damns" to get away with leaving off the label! Remember, Midtowners, we'll always give you a Grandma Olga Special - all you have to do is ask!

Please note that the songs will only be 30 second previews within the podcast if you are not using Spotify Premium. Episode 16: "Midtown Coffee Golden Hour"

Episodes with music are only available on Spotify.

Midtown Coffee Radio Hour proudly presents our collaboration show from February 2023 with the Golden Hour Supper Society entitled, "Midtown Coffee Golden Hour." This episode was recorded in front of a LIVE and hungry audience in the Old Sanctuary Banquet Facility in Brookings, South Dakota. This show was all about belonging and food with a sprinkle of South Dakota State University references and a dash of winter driving tips, garnished with some golden hour magic. Our guests were the founders of the Golden Hour Supper Society, Rachel and Kirsten, who had the tough job of sorting out real reviews from the fake ones. Also, you will notice that Mr. Dave Holly is not our host for this evening, but instead we had the pleasure of having Martha Winklepleck join us as a host and a vocalist! Enjoy this little slice of heaven coming in through your earbuds. Remember, Midtowners, we'll always give you a Grandma Olga Special - all you have to do is ask!

Episode 6: "Home Brew"

Midtown's May show, "Home Brew," is the first one recorded in front of a LIVE AUDIENCE! Yes, you heard that right! This live recording was done in Nick & Tina's backyard, and true to its theme of being home and feeling hygge, this show features our next door neighbor, Wes, and the gnomes that live in our front yard tree, Anastasia and Sir Kensington! This is also the first show with fiddle player extraordinaire, Krystal Pederson, as a member of The House Blend! We also are lucky to have guest drummer and longtime friend, Jeff Johnson, on the show! Oh, and we're bringing back the famous Aunt Debby's Brownies, we're honoring our mothers, we're singing songs about gardening, we've got an ORIGINAL song composed by Nick and Tina's daughter, AND we're joining Matt as he rides his bike! Oh, and remember, Midtowners, we'll always give you a Grandma Olga Special - all you have to do is ask. Spotify Playlist (Original Artists): https://open.spotify.com/playlist/6l2SnA4CEPtOsvf4XBZJo1
