Episode 82: Radical Self Compassion, Internal Family Systems (IFS), and Learning To Love All Parts of Yourself with Jami Lynn Bula IFS or Parts Work for Binge Eating and Sugar Addiction  ***Internal Family Systems Written Explanation Below About Jami Lynn Bula:  Jami Lynn is a relationship and sexuality therapist practicing in Austin, TX. BASIC ASSUMPTIONS OF THE IFS MODELIt is the nature of the mind to be subdivided into an indeterminate number of subpersonalities or parts. Everyone has a Self, and the Self can and should lead the individual's internal system. The non-extreme intention of each part is something positive for the individual. There are no "bad" parts, and the goal of therapy is not to eliminate parts but instead to help them find their non-extreme roles. As we develop, our parts develop and form a complex system of interactions among themselves; therefore, systems theory can be applied to the internal system. When the system is reorganized, parts can change rapidly. Changes in the internal system will affect changes in the external system and vice versa. The implication of this assumption is that both the internal and external levels of system should be assessed. THE SELF: Curious, compassionate, calm part of you that is always there.  GENERAL GROUPS OF PARTS EXILES Young parts that have experienced trauma and often become isolated from the rest of the system in an effort to protect the individual from feeling the pain, terror, fear, and so on, of these parts If exiled, can become increasingly extreme and desperate in an effort to be cared for and tell their story Can leave the individual feeling fragile and vulnerable MANAGERS Parts that run the day-to-day life of the individual Attempt to keep the individual in control of every situation and relationship in an effort to protect parts from feeling any hurt or rejection Can do this in any number of ways or through a combination of parts -- striving, controlling, evaluating, caretaking, terrorizing, and so on. FIREFIGHTERS Group of parts that react when exiles are activated in an effort to control and extinguish their feelings Can do this in any number of ways, including drug or alcohol use, self-mutilation (cutting), binge-eating, sex binges Have the same goals as managers (to keep exiles away) but different strategies

Episode 78: Monday Motivation Mini-Episode- Impulsive Eating
Monday Motivation Mini-Sode With Ellie  Remember your why's and motivate yourself to show up fully this week... FOR YOU.  In this episode Ellie talks about how to breakthrough impulsive food decisions, build mindfulness, and use the breath when an impulse to eat hits.  1. Get off autopilot  Become aware of the feelings you feel when you are triggered to reach for food. (sadness, anxious, bored, etc.)  Become aware of common patterns when these moments hit so you can be proactive and set yourself up for success.  EX: Stressed on the way home from work and pick up a Starbucks muffin  Before you leave work or when you get in the car, do 2 minutes of breath and make yourself a tea. Sit and breathe  2. When an impulse to eat hits,  TUNE IN Consciously relax your body  (body scan) Use your breath to calm your central nervous system and come back to your higher self.  Ask yourself, What am I feeling? What do I really need in this moment?

Episode 76: Overcome Cravings and "Self Sabotage": Surf The Discomfort Curve
Episode 76: Overcome Cravings and "Self Sabotage": Surf The Discomfort Curve Visual Guide: The Discomfort Curve 1:1 Coaching with Ellie Show Notes:  One of the biggest reasons the current diet culture doesn't work longterm is that fad diets don't address your ability to manage emotions.  Your ability to sit in discomfort or uncomfortable emotions is a SUPERPOWER. Learn to ride the waves of discomfort versus escaping with sugar, food, or other numbing agent.  Learn to befriend your inner critic(s) and nurture your inner child(ren)  When you're hit with an impulse to escape/numb/feel better:  Pause Breathe  Relax Your Body  Check in + Compassion for self Quotes dropped in this episode:  “Between stimulus and response there is a space. In that space is our power to choose our response. In our response lies our growth and our freedom.”- Viktor Frankl  "Until you make the unconscious conscious, it will direct your life and you will call it fate.”- Carl Jung  Other References: Internal Family Systems by Dr. Richard Schwartz

Ep 75: Navigating a Binge - Sugar Addiction & Emotional Eating
Ep 75: Navigating a Binge - Tools for Sugar Addiction & Emotional Eating  If you have a binge, release judgment and step into genuine curiosity. Connect to your higher self and build your compassion muscle. Relapsing is part of the process. Anytime you find yourself unconsciously eating or eating to numb, it's an opportunity to tune in. Binge episodes are DATA. Learn about yourself and your behaviors. You'll be able to pull yourself out faster and binge episodes will become less frequent and less intense.  Trade self-loathing and guilt for compassion and gentleness. You are learning.  Questions to ask after a Binge or Compulsive Eating Episode:  What was going on for me?  What was I feeling in that moment?  What was I actually needing in that moment? Episode 52: 4 Quick Healthy Holiday Tips
Episode 52: 4 Quick Healthy Holiday Tips Holiday Season is Here!  That does not have to mean gaining 15 lbs and feeling bloated, tired, or exhausted.  In this episode Ellie shares 4 quick tips to set you up for healthy success this year.  TIP #1 Set intentions TIP #2 Up-level Ingredients  Staying healthy during the holidays does NOT have to mean deprivation. There are SO many swap recipes and ingredient swaps you can make to up-level your favorite holiday recipes.  The main way to staying energized and not gain weight over the holidays is to balance your blood sugar avoid vegetable/seed oils, and major inflammation triggers like gluten.  TIP #3 Worth It Foods  When it comes to the Holidays, the all or none mindset can start to set in. "Well I ate that piece of pie, so I might as well gorge on everything and start over Monday."  Trade the "Cheat Day" / "All or nothing" mindset for mindful indulgences.  Tip #4 Plan the Day After!  The reason most people gain weight or feel low energy for the holidays is not because of 1 holiday meal. It's the slippery slope after that meal that leads to weeks off the wagon of our goals. Set yourself up to come back to your higher self  and feel good ASAP SUPPORT AND ACCOUNTABILITY  Do you want to maintain or actually lose weight this holiday season and feel good in your body?  Set up a free coaching consultation today. Her clinic, San Diego Acne Clinic takes a holistic approach with a 98% success rate for getting people clear and keeping them clear. Together with Kayleigh Clark, she is the co-founder of CLEARstem Skincare, a groundbreaking anti-aging, hormone balancing, scar revising and anti-acne skincare line. Danielle established the San Diego Acne Clinic after battling her own cystic acne for over 10 years. None of the typical methods – antibiotics, lasers, hormonal modifiers, prescription creams, peels and even three rounds of Accutane – worked for her, and the many physicians and dermatologists she consulted could not seem to crack the code. She left the corporate world, dove into clinical research, and went back to school to find the answers for herself, earning her license as a clinical esthetician and acne specialist. She learned that acne has multiple triggers that operate in tandem and that thoroughly evaluating each case in a holistic way – both internal and external – is the only way to help truly manage skin. Today, her clinic has thousands of success stories to tell including celebrity clients. Kayleigh Clark is the co-founder of CLEARstem Skincare, a Holistic Nutritionist, published author, and wellness expert with a keen understanding of the ingredients we put in our bodies for better or worse.  She developed numerous health issues, including severe cystic acne in her mid-twenties and tried in vain to find a cure. After countless doctors, dermatologists, and specialists, no one could figure out what was going on. That’s when she took matters into her own hands and discovered San Diego Acne Clinic, where she met Danielle Gronich. Not only did her acne clear up, but through their sessions, the duo discovered their mutual passion for helping other acne sufferers achieve clear skin through internal and external methods without sacrificing their health. That’s when CLEARstem Skincare was born. Guided by a passion to make a positive impact, Kayleigh studies the latest research on skin and whole-body wellness. She is the co-host of the Balancing Your Hustle podcast, which interviews thought leaders, entrepreneurs, and wellness experts, diving into their individual stories and journeys. Kayleigh is also the published author of Healing with Apple Cider Vinegar: 115 Recipes for Health, Beauty, and Home and has been featured in numerous health, wellness, and lifestyle publications.

Episode 35: Breaking through a weight loss plateau.... with mindset
This episode inspired by one of my 1:1 clients who had lost 22 lbs, but was feeling stuck in a plateau for about 2-3 weeks.  With just shifting her mindset and her beliefs about losing weight, she dropped 4.5 lbs in less than 1 week.  You literally create your own reality. You have to believe what you want is possible and is available to you now. Be the version of you that you want to be... TODAY. Your sub-concious behaviors are going to promote that outcome.  Coming from a place of lack and stuckness, is demotivating. It is  low energy and promotes low energy behaviors thus fulfilling that belief of being stuck which then perpetuates demotivation and the cycle continues.  Coming from a place of excitement because you trust this is your reality, motivates you to keep showing up for yourself, believing that it is possible promotes high energy behaviors to bring about your desired outcome and attract things ini your life in that higher energy state. Expect that what you want is own its way and find gratitude for the not yet seen, because it is coming.  Affirmations:  I lose weight easily.  My body is coming back into balance.  I am so excited to be fit and healthy.  Weight loss is easy.  I release this excess weight.  I am fit and strong  I love my body and so grateful for my journey to my healthiest self.  #bingeeating #mindfulness #quantumphysics #weightloss #eatrealfood

Episode 25: Mindful Healthy Holiday Strategies- Tip #1- What to Bring To Holiday Parties- Simple Swaps, Appetizers, Desserts and more
The holidays don't have to mean fatigue, food coma, and gaining 15 lbs.  I want to share with you practical tips for your holiday season to help you to honor your goals, stay energized and present through out.  Show up to the new year feeling your best!  This episode is my first tip for you: Don't go to holiday parties empty handed.  Holiday parties can be really nerve-racking if you are trying to stay healthy. They can quickly spiral out into a binge or sugar coma.  I share with you tons of ideas for appetizers, sweets, chips, etc. to help you stay on track, feeling light, and still enjoy yourself! A couple of the ideas I mentioned: 1. Paleo Pumpkin Pie (I like to use less sweetener (1/3 cup) or you can swap out honey/maple syrup for erythritol or monk fruit for  keto/diabetic friendly)  2. Easy Pesto 3. Cucumber with Prosciutto (Use the kite hill or miyokos cream cheese vs. goat cheese for dairy free) 4. Base Culture Pumpkin Bread (check out episode with founder Jordann!)  5. Good Dee's Low Carb GF/DF Baking mixes  (Check out episode with founder Deana!)  For a list of the ideas mentioned in the episode, email me at or join my email list on  Do you need support and accountability this holiday season to show up as your best self?  DM me @mindfulbellie or email me at  #mindful #binging #overeating #holidays #paleo #keto #realfood #primal #mindfuleating

Episode 16: Water- Boost Your Energy and Reduce Over Eating- Hacks to drink more
In this Episode: I give you practical strategies to actually drink enough water in your day, so you can feel energized, clear minded, and not craving food all day long.  The importance of hydration is so often overlooked. We seek out supplements, blood work, or other expensive healing modalities, when first we need to start with the basics. Are you hydrated?  Even just being a little dehydrated can lead to:  False hunger signals, brain fog, fatigue, head ache, low mood, aging skin etc.  So often when we think we're hungry, we are actually just thirsty.   Aim to get minimum half of your body weight in ounces per day, so if you are 130 lbs- shoot for 65 ounces minimum. Sometimes this is easier said than done, so in this episode I give you some practical strategies to make it easier

How many times have you left a restaurant and wished you hadn't eaten so much or beat yourself up for eating all of the french fries?  Dining out was one of my main triggers and a major trigger for most of my coaching clients to gorge on lower energy foods, overeat, and beat themselves up afterwards.  It can be intimidating to eat out when you are trying to stay in alignment with your health goals. Episode 4: Kick The Sugar Habit- Part 1
Kick the Sugar Habit- Part 1  As a former severe sugar addict, I know how gripping sugar addiction can be.  I couldn’t fathom the concept of not craving sugar. Once I got to the other side though, I knew it was my mission to help other people do the same.  I am a wellness speaker and one of my favorite talks to give is: Kick The Sugar Habit  In this episode, I share with you part one of my talk.  I dive into how sugar affects our body, why it makes us gain weight, causes Type 2 Diabetes, fuels chronic disease, sucks our energy, and why calorie counting does not work long term.  ______________ Obesity is not a lack of will power. It is hormonal disfunction.  Type 2 Diabetes is not a life sentence. In most cases, it is preventable and reversible.  For the video of this episode and accompanying slides- check out the youtube video : References:  Dr. Robert Lustig: pediatric endocrinologist who specializes in specializes in neuroendocrinology and childhood obesity. Episode 3: Honoring Your Hunger and Fullness
Mindfulbellie Don't Eat Your Feelings Podcast Episode 3: Honoring Your Hunger and Fullness When it comes to mindful eating, learning how to honor your hunger and fullness is essential.  As a former binge eater and working with many clients with compulsive eating behaviors, tuning into your internal hunger and fullness scales is how we can really start to shift habits.  I have a free hunger and fullness guide. Just DM me on instagram @mindfulbellie or send me an email at and I'll send it over!  Hunger scale: 0-10  0 not hungry at all  10 being so starving you are going to eat your arm. Try not to let yourself get past a 5 or you may be setting yourself up for a poor food decision or a binge. It's so much harder to make mindful choices when we are ravenous and ready to eat anything in sight. Always have emergency back up food. (stock your car, work drawers, purse etc.)  Fullness Scale: 0-10 The more trickier one I find with myself and clients 0-Stomach Empty  10- Need to unbutton pants to breathe  We are shooting for a 7 on the fullness scale, satiated not stuffed. Energized and light, not heavy and sleepy.  Avoiding overeating can be tough, especially if we're stressed out or in a hurry.  # 1 thing is to slow down, put your food on a plate vs. mindlessly eating out of a bag, box, etc.  Use the Speed Bump I talk about (especially when dining out)  Post Meal Ritual to give you something to do when you are done eating that your brain can look forward to.  Anytime you do overeat, release judgment and let it be an opportunity to get curious. What was in place that led to the overeating? maybe you were starving because didn't have anything to eat for lunch, maybe you were dining out and served a massive portion and just kept picking at it because other people were eating., etc. Observe the behavior and consciously play out what you would like to do for yourself next time.  Do you need help to overcome compulsive eating or overeating habits? Or Would you like guidance, support, and accountability, to finally change your habits to feel confident in your body and have more energy?  Set up a free strategy session with me. We'll get clear on  your goals and see if we'd be a good fit to work together.  DM me @mindfulbellie or email me at

Episode 2: Mindful Eating Strategy: Tune into Triggers
Do you ever reach for food when you aren't actually hungry?  Rather than depriving yourself, which typically leads to rebellion and a binge, learn how to trade white-knuckling will power, for mindfulness. The first step in conquering my compulsive eating and binge eating disorder was all about shifting out of autopilot, numbing out mode, into curious awareness of my habits.  In this episode, I talk about how to start tuning into your own triggers for eating and how to cultivate mindful eating habits.  I mention one of my favorite Mindful Eating guru's  Michelle May, MD in this episode and a really helpful "Identifying your Triggers" Handout.  If you'd like the free guide, just shoot me an email at This guide is extremely helpful in starting to realize all of the things that may prompt your brain to eat or crave something that you may have never realized. So many of my clients come to realize all sorts of things they had never linked to their eating habits.  Awareness is the first step to lasting habit change. Release Judgement and just get curious!  Use non-edible forms of nourishment to create new neural pathways in the brain when you experience your trigger. Try Club soda, Tea, water, go for a walk, listen to music, etc.  Repeat the behavior each time you are compelled to reach for food to give your brain a new default behavior.  For Emotional Eating, when hit with an emotional trigger, fill out this sentence: I feel _____, because ______, I want ____ Ex: I feel overwhelmed because I have so much to do, I want peace.  Identify what you are looking for, that you maybe using food to achieve. Explore, how else can you experience the desired feeling. (a walk, meditation, breathing, self-care, call a friend, etc.)  If you are looking for guidance, support, and accountability on your mindful eating/health journey I am here for you. DM me on instagram @mindfulbellie or email me at and we can set up a free strategy session to see if we'd be a good fit to work together.  Above all else, LOVE YOURSELF

Episode 1: A Sugar Addict's Journey to Health Coaching
I'm Ellie Rome. I am a Certified Health Coach with a background in Chemical Engineering. If you were to ask me 15 years ago, if I would be a health coach,  I would've shrunk back in shame probably wiping off my chocolate covered lips and sucking in my bloated belly.   I was a complete sugar addict and felt completely out of control when it came to food. I was a binge eater, constantly eating beyond the point of fullness and in a toxic cycle of restriction, attempted starvation, and binges. I felt so much shame and guilt around food and my body.  However, I believe our mess is our message. Through a journey of overcoming sugar addiction, learning how to fuel my unique body, mindful eating strategies, and stress management, I was able to transform my toxic relationship with food and it is now my mission to help you do the same.  There is SO much misinformation around how to be healthy, so I am here to help clear that up.  Many of us know what we "should" be doing, but don't always do it or don't quite know how to make it work into our lives. This podcast is about giving you practical tools that I use for myself and with my health coaching clients to transform your habits, energy, weight, and overall well being.  This podcast will cover topics on all things Health, Longevity, Mindful Eating, Biohacking, Self-Care, My Favorite Products and Expert Interviews on topics such as Healing IBS, Mental Health,  Hormonal Balance,  and Meditation.  Any topics you'd like to learn more about or any specific challenges you have with your health journey?
