#54 How Media Creates Unrealistic Expectations for Relationships

#54 How Media Creates Unrealistic Expectations for Relationships

Thank you for tuning in for another edition of the Min Rise Podcast. This week I'll be talking about how media creates unrealistic expectations for relationships. I think going into this podcast we all know this but for like many other things it doesn't hurt being repeated. In an age where everything can be broadcasted to the world via social media any of us are victim to comparison and the crazy expectations that media sets for us. There are hundreds of dating shows, reality shows, rom coms, sensual tv shows and more that all influence how we think a relationship should be. Even if we know better than to base our standards off a fictional show there's no doubt that they can influence us tremendously especially when we are in the face of conflict.

#53 Celebrating the Small Victories in Life

#53 Celebrating the Small Victories in Life

Hello everyone I am so thrilled to be back! I missed you all and I've been working on some new content for the second season of my podcast. In today's episode I speak about how it's so easy for all of us  to not celebrate the small victories in our lives. I think it's such good timing for a topic like this as I'm celebrating the small victories while I'm training our new puppy. We do it for our animals so let's put this concept into action and do it for us. Thanks for tuning in and please rate and review my podcast on Apple Podcasts or follow my podcast on Spotify. Thanks!

#52 Contentment vs. Happiness

#52 Contentment vs. Happiness

Join me on this new podcast as I talk about the difference of contentment and happiness. Sometimes we can think they're one in the same but the reality is that they're very different. In the world today happiness can be arguably based on external conditions whereas contentment comes from our relationship to what is going on around us, rather than our reaction to it. It is the peaceful realization that we are whole and complete just as we are, despite the anger, sadness, joy, frustration, and excitement that may come in and out from time to time.

#51 Is Hustle Culture Ruining Our Passions?

#51 Is Hustle Culture Ruining Our Passions?

There are dozens of people out there that will tell you hustling is glamorous. It’s the only way to get that dream car, dream vacation, or retire at 45. They will tell you all their secrets if you want them to. But, pay for the online course first. Thanks. Honestly it’s everywhere. Even people I know are becoming “influencers” and selling this life that’s too good to be true. In this episode I examine the truth about hustle culture and what it has evolved into. Will this trend be the downfall of real, authentic joy in our youth? Is it all really too good to be true? Tune in and hear my thoughts.

#50 Is Climbing the Corporate Ladder Worth It?

#50 Is Climbing the Corporate Ladder Worth It?

We all want to improve, we all want to graduate to that next ladder rung in life but what happens when we get to a point where we are living comfortably? What happens when we get to that point? Will we invariably always want more? If consumerism has taught us one thing it’s that we will never have the latest and newest thing forever because society is constantly producing newer and better products. Whether you are searching for a promotion within or searching outside of your company for taking that next step up the corporate ladder it can be discouraging at the very least. Be sure to follow me on Instagram @filo.arts and please reach out if you would like be on the next episode.

#49 How the the Pandemic is Impacting Friendships

The pandemic is surfacing important differences in perspectives, creating a sense of division in people's relationships or highlighting divisions that were already there. This situation has illuminated the different ways people choose to progress through a situation that impacts everyone. Some people have adapted their life for the greater good, while others are taking a more individualistic approach. Whatever the case may be the pandemic has radically changed our insights on a number of people in our lives.

#47 Why Your Net-Worth Does Not Define Your Self-Worth

#47 Why Your Net-Worth Does Not Define Your Self-Worth

When you meet someone for the first time, what you do for a living comes up pretty early in the conversation, right? That’s because we’re ingrained from a very young age to equate our identity with our occupation. Your job title instantly conveys certain information about your educational background, your social status, and your bank account. In this episode I explore how we can feel better about our self-worth regardless of what our income is. Now this is no easy task, but the more proud and comfortable we become with what we do for a living, the more that confidence will radiate. When you aren't ashamed of what you do to put food on the table people basing their whole lives on money will start to question where they are putting all of their worth in the first place.

#41 Sarcasm and When it Goes too Far

#41 Sarcasm and When it Goes too Far

If you want to be happier and improve your relationships, cut down on sarcasm. Why? Because sarcasm is actually hostility disguised as humor. Many people who receive sarcastic comments feel put down and often think the sarcastic person is a jerk. “There’s a grain of truth behind every joke." I think we all need to work on being more aware of what we say and how we say it. It's crucial because we all want to form long lasting genuine relationships not ones built on superficiality and sarcasm. Tune in to learn more about when sarcasm goes too far and how to notice it before it's too late. Be sure to follow me on instagram and tiktok!

#39 Keeping Up With the Joneses

#39 Keeping Up With the Joneses

What's up everybody I hope you are all having a great week! In this week's episode I will be talking about why "keeping up with the joneses" is destroying peoples' lives and self worth. We have to be sure not to link our value in the material possessions that we own or want to own. This is especially a problem now with the rampant consumption of social media. Every single day we are blasted with info with how this person got a new car or how another person paid off their house. While these are things we should be proud of other people for it can be easy to become super cynical and want to compete with these people. Keeping up with the Joneses will never satisfy. As a whole we all need to learn to be more grateful for what we have instead of chasing the "new" thing every day.

#38 The Power of Persistence

#38 The Power of Persistence

Thank you for joining me today! We will be discussing the power of persistence. It is a crucial and essential skill we all need to practice in order to be successful in accomplishing our goals. I wanted to take the time today to personally talk about this because it can be very easy to give up and not want to continue our endeavors. We feel like we don't deserve success or that we're not good enough. All of these thoughts are trying to prevent us from living up to our maximum potential and are in part silencing the persistent voice inside of us.

#34 Learning How to Stand Up For Yourself

#34 Learning How to Stand Up For Yourself

My fellow listeners today we hit the 34th episode of the Mind Rise podcast and we are talking about how to stand up for yourself in all types of different situations. For many, it’s not quite second nature to know how to stand up for yourself. This is especially true for people who are branded as pushovers. I am guilty of wanting to always please people but there comes a point in time where we need to learn not only how to stand up for ourselves, but to stand up for what's just, what right, and what we believe in.

#28 Follow Your Passion and Never Look Back (with Zainuddin Haider)

Hello everybody! Thank you all for sticking with me through these crazy times! I'm still making content every chance I get and today I had the amazing opportunity to record a podcast with one of my longtime friends from high school. In this podcast we emphasize how it's so imperative to follow your dreams and passion no matter what the culture or family business is. It's okay to be an outlier, it's okay to go against the grain and it's okay to be different. At the end of the day, it's our life and we are in charge of our fulfillment, no one else.

#27 Tips to Stop Worrying About Money

#27 Tips to Stop Worrying About Money

In today's podcast I outline some tips that I read about and came across on how to stop worrying about money. It is so easy for it to control our lives and define every single aspect of who we are and what we think about ourselves. We either never have enough of it or we have more than we know what to do with. There have been hundreds of books and articles published on money management and how to be successful with your finances. This podcast is my own personal spin on how we achieve control over our money instead of letting it control us.

#26 Stop Beating Yourself Up

#26 Stop Beating Yourself Up

In today's episode I highlight on how easy it is to beat ourselves up and fall into negative self hating behavior. I outline steps we can take to fight the urge to wallow in self pity and become a stronger, confident version of our true selves. When it comes to beating ourselves up for every little mistake or just anything else it's important that we don't let this become a habitual occurrence. Would we use the same mean or hurtful narratives that we often feed to our own minds and take that out on other people? We shouldn't be more comfortable speaking ill of ourselves. Self empowerment all the way so join me to encourage you and to stop beating yourself up!

#24 Social Media Can Make You Cynical (If You Let It)

Everyone hello! I hope you all are safe during this crazy time in our world today. In light of the global pandemic I thought it would be fitting to record an episode on social media. We are all probably getting a lot more screen time than we should be since mostly everything is closed down. While social media is a tool it has countless negative side effects if we have too much of it just like anything else. One of those negative side effects is cynicism. In today's episode I break down what being cynical means and how it can corrupt our minds and way of life.

#23 Strive for Unconditional Love

I hope all of you are safe and healthy throughout all of this panic the world is experiencing because of COVID-19. In today's episode I talk about how more people need to set higher standards for themselves and their love. We as a culture need to move away from conditional relationships and  gravitate towards unconditional love. Conditional love ruins people's perception of love, perpetuates objectification, and overall is a negative stigma that's oppressing our society. Join me to fight for love; real...unconditional...no stipulations love.

#22 Why Perfectionism is Dangerous

#22 Why Perfectionism is Dangerous

This is something I believe all of us struggle with in some way, shape, or form. Perfectionism is something that has been amplified in our culture and one of the reasons I have created this particular podcast is because I want to stand up against it. Perfectionism is a losing battle even though many of us sacrifice so much to try to obtain it. In today's episode I speak on the dangers of perfectionism and how to give ourselves some more grace in order to live a better life.

#21 How to Stay Motivated When You Aren't Seeing Results

#21 How to Stay Motivated When You Aren't Seeing Results

This was a topic that was requested from some of my listeners and friends. It's definitely super hard to stay motivated when we are not seeing results. It's even harder to break out of this thought pattern and be intentional about focusing on what we have accomplished rather than what we have not accomplished. I think one of the most important lessons from this podcast is learning to celebrate our achievements when we get down on ourselves for not having the same timeline as someone else. We can all be so close to our next breakthrough if we just hang in there and surround ourselves with people who are routing for us.

#20 What You Believe About Yourself Is All That Matters

"As a man thinketh, so he is. As he continues to think, so he remains." - James Allen. In today's episode I speak on the importance of self belief. It's significant because what we think about ourselves truly determines what we will achieve and what we will become. There is power in your words and we should treat them as a priority. If any of you have a personal goal that you have been talking yourself out of for a while please listen to this podcast and see if it doesn't give you the motivation to tackle your dream head on!

#19 Money and Relationships

#19 Money and Relationships

I am excited to speak on the hot topic of money and relationships. As with many other topics in this podcast, this is particularly something that I struggle with a lot and I was happy to talk about it. There are plenty of things that I have worked through, but plenty more that I have to be better about. Financial stress can be one of the root causes of arguments and disputes in any relationship especially as the two people are together for longer and longer. I try to give some helpful advice on how to navigate this problem of money. I speak on how we can re frame our minds when it comes to money management and  view it as a collective goal instead of a singular one.

#18 Controlling Anger Before it Controls You (with Lex Perkins)

My good friend Lex has joined me for yet another podcast episode! Today we talk about anger and how to control it. Anger can most of the time be a very slippery slope to navigate and deal with. A lot of us tend to be inclined to get angry very quickly. There seems to be more and more things that set people off now a days and it's not getting any easier. Whether it's frustration from your job or anger directed towards another person Lex and I will be talking about how to appropriately respond to this emotion and how to not let it control you.

#17 Know Your Worth (Artist Edition)

#17 Know Your Worth (Artist Edition)

Have any of you struggled with knowing your worth as a professional? It can be a difficult thing pin point in the early stages of your career. As you progress in your skill set so does your value. Don't take on cheap pay off jobs just because you want "exposure." Not everyone is looking out for your best interest, especially if you are a fine artist or designer. Sometimes it's easy for people to view art as a charity case or free service. Stand up for your worth as an artist. If you have experience or even a degree don't budge and only take on projects that are worth it to you and the client.

#16 There is No Timeline For Success

#16 There is No Timeline For Success

Have you been feeling lost, lonely, or meaningless in your career endeavors or your relationship? Have you been comparing your life or your progress to other people's? Today I speak on how there is no timeline for success and that we need to stop holding out for perfection. Passion for your work takes a lot of development and success comes along with that. There are so many people in the world that have hit success later in their life and there's nothing wrong with that. So many young people including myself have set ourselves up to think that we are failures because we don't have five or six figures in our bank account. We get down on ourselves  if we don't have that job we always wanted yet. Everything worth having in life, including career and relationship fulfillment takes time. Listen in to hear how you can re-frame your mind to cheer for yourself instead of beating yourself down.

#15 Keeping a Day Job While Pursuing Your Passion

#15 Keeping a Day Job While Pursuing Your Passion

I speak about the common fears and mental blocks on having a day job that doesn't align with your college degree or passion. I explain  how to get over that internal hurdle. This is a narrative I know for a fact that many artists are experiencing. Though it may seem paradoxical sometimes the best way to maintain your mental, emotional, and financial health is to pursue your passion on the side. Right now this is my story and I intend to give it life and talk in such a way that shows you guys that success doesn't have a strict definition. If you are in my shoes keep your corporate job and get your side hustle on. You can always shoot for something more so there's no reason to get down on yourself for what your story looks like early on. Never give up my friends.

#14 Be Intentional About Who You Spend Your Time With

Welcome to another episode! Today I explore how we need to be more intentional about our friends and our inner circle. Jim Rohn says "you're the average of the five people you spend the most time with." I personally have had so many moments where my body language, my mannerisms and my actions are completely out of line with my character. Who we hang out with and put energy into matters. If someone is contributing to your future and helping you grow make time. If someone cares about you, I mean really cares about you...make time. If someone cares about your passions...make time.

#13 Why We're Missing the Mark in Relationships

#13 Why We're Missing the Mark in Relationships

I discuss the dangers of dating on the internet and how we live in a culture of casual relationships. We don't want to let ourselves fall for anyone because we tend to think that there is someone better out there. This all stems down to our commitment phobic generation and fearing that if we find someone worth settling down with it mind as well be a ball and chain. I cover the significance of marriage and healthy, consensual relationships and how these are the foundation of a stable society. We need more young adults to stop feeding into casual and serial dating. We must take our time to find a good, authentic, stable, and loving partner.

#12 Overcome Envy

We have all been there and experienced the feeling of envy. Sometimes we don't even have to have any deep seated remorse towards another person to feel it. Envy is destructive to ourselves as it is to others. It's a feeling that can truly ruin someone's life. In today's episode I explore the adverse side effects of envy and dissect this emotion. I also talk about ways to combat and live with this natural feeling. Tune in to hear more!

#10 Under the Silver Lake

In today's episode I conduct a brief movie review on the film Under the Silver Lake by director David Mitchell. The reason I chose to talk about this movie is because it's very thought provoking and went deep into conspiracy theories and ideology. I loved that the podcast was essentially an extension of the artificial intelligence podcast I recorded not too long ago. Let me know what you think about symbols, codes, and this movies take on living in the matrix. #9 Self Mastery and Igniting Your Passion

The books I have been reading lately have been chalk full of great content to present. Today I speak on the novel Mastery by Robert Greene. It is loaded with biographies and narratives from legends like Leonardo da Vinci, Albert Einstein, and Charles Darwin. I talk about what sets these people apart and how we can model certain aspects of our lives to fit their success model. Mastery isn't gained without adversity, a lot of grueling hours of hard work, and an attitude that you can change the world! Get out there and make an impact!

#8 Activating Your Alter Ego (with Lex Perkins)

Have you ever conjured an alter ego in times of doubt, stress, worry, or motivation? Do you imagine yourself in an alternate universe as another person or character in order to accomplish a task or get something done? For some people it's becoming a superhero, for others it's more practical like someone they look up to in their family. Whatever the person your alter ego fits it's important to own it and use it to succeed in life. Lex and I talk about the positive implications of the alter ego and how we can activate it in our every day lives. The alter ego is a better version of yourself, so let's learn how to use it!
