48 | Deb Erickson, NeuroTools of ICAN Institute
Deb Erickson is a neuro trainer, business mindset expert, and founder of The ICAN Institute Inc., a company dedicated to helping direct sales and network marketing entrepreneurs around the world free themselves from the mental and emotional limiters that hold them back from success - shifting them into confident, inspired action, increased income, and sustainable business growth. Deb’s personal passion lies in developing neuro training that helps women step out of their comfort zones and into their true greatness, enabling them to achieve massive business success while growing the personal confidence needed to live the life of their dreams. Her unique, results-focused methods merge mindset-shifting ICAN Neuro Tools with female-focused business training, liberating her clients from mental ruts, fears, doubts, and personal limitations resulting in increased IPAs and unprecedented growth. Free Mindset Training Neurotools https://www.icaninstitute.com/free-training-2/ After graduating from Illinois State University with a degree in Education, Deb dove headfirst into the career she’d always dreamed of – being a high school teacher and basketball coach. Her experiences in the classroom and on the court gave her a deep awareness of how our thoughts, perceptions, and emotions impact performance results in virtually every area of our lives. She began expanding her study of the mind, specifically how we can shift limiting thoughts and behaviors to find greater happiness and achieve our goals with more ease. Top Level Network Marketing Leader While working towards a Masters Degree in Counseling, Deb joined her first of two network marketing companies where she quickly rose to the top levels of leadership. Frustrated by the limited impact traditional sales and “motivational” training had on her team, Deb set out to develop training systems that spoke to the specific skill-based needs and mindset challenges of the women in her downline. She began expanding her study of neuroscience, eventually teaming up with leading researchers to develop brain re-training tools to help her team members overcome the mental and emotional blocks that were keeping them “stuck” in their business. Neuro Training is the Answer After years of success in two separate companies, Deb knew firsthand the powerful impact her mindset training system had on the business growth of the women on her team. She shifted all of her focus to developing the neuro tools and training she had used with them, into a system that could be used by consultants in direct sales or network marketing companies worldwide. Knowing beyond a doubt that simply adding more traditional skill set training was not the answer for most women struggling to find success in the industry, Deb launched her own company, The ICAN Institute Inc., dedicated to helping consultants around the world close the mindset gaps that hold them back from taking the action they know they need to take to grow their teams, increase sales, and rank up. https://vl729.isrefer.com/go/free-training-2/FlipFlopCEO/ Subscribe so you never miss an episode. 46 | Hope Baker, Single Mom Exemplifies the Magic of Perfect Timing & Serendipitous Meetings
If know someone who’s in search of the freedom and flexibility to be present for their family, without sacrificing their current income, this episode just might be a good one to share.  Our guest today, had no idea that Network Marketing could be the solution that she was looking for, because of her misconceptions about the business.  16 years ago, when she discovered this business, she was a newly divorced, single mom of a 6 year old, looking for a solution. Hope Baker exemplifies a scenario that every Network Marketer dreams of….being in the right place at the right time, and having the opportunity to provide a solution to someone who is ready, willing and able to get started in this business. Hope’s previous careers included: flight attendant, Realtor and personal trainer.  While she enjoyed the work that she had done, she was looking for a way to be a stay at home mom who could be fully present for her son.  When Hope heard about Network Marketing, she realized that the things she enjoyed most in her previous careers could be found in Network Marketing, as well… and that this business would allow her to be the kind of mom she wanted to be. Prior to the day Network Marketing was shared with her, Hope had no idea that this type of business met her criteria of providing the freedom, flexibility, and income potential that she was searching for….but when she discovered it, she dove in head first and never looked back.  Hope reached the highest level of her company in her second year in the business. 45 | Sharon Lechter, Co-Author of Rich Dad, Poor Dad Books discusses Network Marketing as a way to create on-going income.
Laura and Janine interview Sharon Lechter,  an  internationally recognized financial literacy expert, keynote speaker and business mentor.  She is a New York Times Bestselling author, successful entrepreneur, philanthropist, and has enjoyed a 35 year career as a licensed CPA. Sharon has advised two US Presidents on the topic of financial literacy. Sharon co-authored the international bestseller Rich Dad Poor Dad and 14 other books in the Rich Dad series.  The concept of the Four Quadrants of income is especially pertinent to those in Network Marketing because they teach the concept of “trading time for a paycheck” versus creating “asset income”, “on-going income”, or “residual income”.  As long as a person has to show up to earn a paycheck, they will never experience true freedom.  True freedom is defined as having both time and money. In 2008, when the economy crashed, she was asked by the Napoleon Hill Foundation to help re-energize the teachings of Napoleon Hill. Her best-selling books with the Foundation include Three Feet from Gold, Outwitting the Devil and Think and Grow Rich for Women and Success and Something Greater.  She is also featured in the movie Think and Grow Rich: The Legacy and on the national television series World’s Greatest Motivators. Sharon is currently launching her newest title, Exit Rich to support entrepreneurs in building value and scalability in their businesses so they can be in the position of greatest potential. Four years ago, he decided to get his helicopter pilot's license for fun, and recently purchased his own helicopter. He's also scheduled to become the first network marketer to travel to space as part of Richard Branson's Virgin Galactic civilian space program.  Jordan believes in big dreams and says working hard and never quitting is the secret to his success. Laura and Janine talk with Jordan about many of the aspects of the Network Marketing that contribute to some of the main misconceptions.  He talks about how many people get into Network Marketing, and get back out without ever doing anything with it.  He equates this to the fact that the nature of people in general is that they don’t stick to things they start.   He uses the analogy of a gym and how many people join, but then six months later, have quit going.  Much like folks who get their real estate license…out of 100 agent’s, about a third usually quit immediately…never selling a single home, a third of them will sell one home a year, maybe two, a third of them will do a little more than that.  But, one or two out of 100 or two, will do something significantly.  It’s the same with Network Marketing….because it’s just the nature of people. Jordan shares a lot of insights he’s learned from being in the business, and how he applies the statistics he’s captured, based on human nature,  to this business.  Jordan has discovered that it typically takes three to five touch points before somebody will make a decision to say yes, which is why following up is so important in Network Marketing.  He teaches people lots of different “touch points” to stay connected, because he knows that the people who do that are the ones that are most successful!

36 | Nurse, Judy Milstead
Laura and Janine continue with their career comparison series to help people who are looking to pivot right now, hear from those who have made the transition traditional careers into Network Marketing/MLM.  This is an enlightening interview for anyone in the medical profession as well as for Boomers who may be surprised by the insights that Judy shares.   Judy speaks from her heart about all of the reasons she feels blessed to have found Network Marketing at this stage in her life.  Judy was a 68 when she was introduced to Network Marketing.  She is an retired RN, who spent over 40 years in the medical field.  Her background includes hospital emergency department director, private nurse for a doctor, hospital nurse educator, and with a regional director for organ bank, hospital advocate, and telemetry unit staff, nurse. Besides the lifestyle that her new career has provided, Judy also shares another aspect of this business that she loves. “If you're in the hospital setting, you get a patient and you patch them up, and you send them home, and you don't ever see them again.  With network marketing, you get to know people.  It's like; these people are going to be our friends and family for life. I don't have to patch them and send them off.” Judy talks about how one of the things that concerned her at first is that she didn’t want to bother people. She didn’t want them to feel like she was using their friendship for her financial gain…but she quickly realized that she was not doing that, at all.  And that people don’t think that, because they realize that she is simply listening to find out what they need.  And if they need something, she offers it.  She’s looking for people who are looking for her, and there are a lot of people in the world who are looking for something right now. 34 | Restaurant Biz to Network Marketing w/J Michael Smith
The pandemic has caused many people to suddenly find themselves with a need to pivot in their career. Network Marketing/MLM is an option that most might not consider because of the misconceptions, so we thought it would be helpful to do a series of interviews with folks from various backgrounds who have made the transition from traditional careers to Network Marketing/MLM.  We hope that these interviews will be shared with those who may be searching for options, and might find this information helpful. This interview will focus on one type of business that has been particularly affected….restaurants and the people who work in that field. Janine and Laura talk with J Michael Smith, a Boomer, and former restauranteur who talks about his experience of making that transition. His background includes more than 35 years of owning and operating restaurants in Colorado and Hawaii.  He was introduced to Network Marketing in 2008 during the recession, and loves to help folks with similar backgrounds evaluate this opportunity for themselves. 30 | Dr. Danielle Daniel, Psychologist, LCSW
Laura and Janine hear from Dr. Danielle Daniel. Danielle is a Doctor of Psychology, Licensed Clinical Social Worker, and the founder of Brave.Foundation, which serves kids and young adults who have been sex-trafficked and abused.  Danielle is making a difference in the world…she speaks globally and loves empowering others to create the life of their dreams. She built her Network Marketing business alongside of a full time job, and was able to retire by the age of 38. Danielle shares how she found Network Marketing, but almost missed it because of her misconceptions about the magnitude of this kind of opportunity.  She discovered that by using Network Marketing to create financial freedom, she had the opportunity to actually do more of what she loves, and to make a bigger difference in the world than she could have if she followed the traditional vocational path.  Danielle is passionate about helping others understand why it’s so important to have a backup plan in our lives. Both Danielle and her mother experienced health challenges that prevented them from being able to work, but because she had already built her Network Marketing business, she remained financially secure during a very challenging time in her life. Danielle believes that remaining hopeful is critical to achieving success.  Always believing that someway, somehow, everything is going to work out. Subscribe so you never miss an episode. David Skultety has been in the network marketing profession for over twenty years. Through the companies he has represented, he has mentored thousands of people to take control of their financial futures and guided them to become lifestyle entrepreneurs.  For the first four years of his career, David failed miserably. In 1999, he became a distributor for a health and wellness company and built an organization of over 300,000 people who produced over $500,000,000 in wholesale sales. He then accomplished what very few have done. He started a new business from scratch and built an entirely new organization from 1-100,000 people all over again. Many who know David consider him the "networker's networker".  His reputation for keeping it real and genuinely serving others has earned him the respect of many throughout the profession.  A grateful dad to three amazing young adults. Laura and Janine’s interview with Elizabeth Jarvis will be especially enlightening to anyone who thinks this business isn’t for introverts! Elizabeth is the person everyone in Network Marketing dreams of finding…she heard about the business, and immediately knew that this was something she wanted to pursue!  She credits her ability to see opportunity to two major life experiences:  growing up with parents who were unafraid of change, and being married to a professional baseball player who was always looking for the next big break. That was almost twelve years ago and today she is a top leader in her Network Marketing business. 16 | Jackie Ulmer, learning a new skill set
Jackie shared, “I will never be written up in the Network Marketing Hall of Fame as a fast starter." We discuss the importance of managing your mindset…and that very often we set ourselves up with unrealistic expectations about what that first year or first six months is going to look like.  And the importance of focusing on the fact that Network Marketing is about building an asset…it’s different than being an employee. From the beginning, Jackie knew she wanted to be in the top 1% in her business.  She was stubborn and committed.  Today, what Jackie has discovered to be even better than the money, the stage, the recognition and the awards that this business offers… is that feeling of knowing that she accomplished something that most people don’t. And, she helped a lot of people along the way, all while growing fabulous friendships, and being a positive influence in the world.   Jackie is a pioneer in growing an on-line Network Marketing business twenty years ago. She was also one of the first Network Marketers to start her own podcast: Street Smart Wealth.  She talks about how she discovered Network Marketing by doing her research at the library (before the internet) to figure out how to earn unlimited income, around her busy schedule as a new mom, and a husband who worked for the airlines, and was gone half the month. This conversation in packed with "Jackieism’s", as she shares her belief that success in Network Marketing is a matter of learning a skill set that anyone can master.  She says Network Marketing is a “shampoo, rinse and repeat business”.  Jackie believes it’s important to embrace sales, and master the skill of not being salesy…allowing people to sell themselves Jackie also shared her 3 C’s of Success.  Subscribe so you never miss an episode. 14 | Loren Lahav, "I'm too cool for this business"
Janine and Laura enjoy a fun chat with Loren Lahav, as she sits on the floor of a Florida hotel room, sharing how she refused to listen to those who tried to recruit her into Network Marketing for seventeen years because she had the “I’m too cool for this business” syndrome going.  Loren had lots of legitimate reasons to say no, she had three small children, and was in a career she loved, working for The Tony Robbins Company, organizing events, launching a program in Fiji, and doing trainings in Portugal, Spain, and Puerto Rico. But finally, after being patiently persistent, her sponsor framed the business in a way that made sense to her.  She realized that if she kept making her kids the “excuse” rather than the “reason”, she would never know for sure.   Once she made the decision, she went “all in”.  She started her business…while raising her kids, writing her second book, and traveling 165 days a year, and grew to the top position faster than anyone had at the time in her company. Today, Loren shares her 30 years of experience in personal development with her coaching clients who range from stay at home moms, to CEO’s of fortune 500 companies.  She is obsessed with helping people create real change, and she loves being in the trenches…her clients love working with her because she practices what she preaches. Episode 12: Paul Jones, Financial literacy
Paul’s foundational philosophy is: “Don’t let someone else’s frame of mind, frame your mind”. A lot of Paul’s wisdom comes from being the youngest of nine children, and being raised by a single mom.  At a very young age, he was given special permission to start working for Taco Bell.  Paul shared how, “Working for lazy managers who passed their work down to him, gave him the opportunity to learn to do every job at Taco Bell”.  His twelve years there, provided the foundation of skills and life lessons that helped him go on to achieve great success in life! Paul initially heard about Network Marketing from people who didn’t have any hustle, so he thought he wasn’t interested.  That’s why he believes it’s so important that we make certain that we’re not listening to the wrong people. Once he learned more about Network Marketing, he realized that he was actually “running from what he was praying for”. Today, Paul has a very successful career as a businessman, entrepreneur, author, and motivational speaker.  He has dedicated his life to helping people overcome their personal obstacles and pursue their goals.   It is his mission to improve the lives of as many people as possible! Episode 1: Our Story
Who are we? Why did we create this podcast? Relax. It is not what you expect. We are not here to promote a company. We are not here to “sell” you. We are here to provide information. Janine Finney and Laura Evans are two women who are passionate about bringing clarity to the topic of Network Marketing. While they both share a deep desire to demystify this topic, their reasons for caring so much about creating this podcast are very different. Laura, a corporate executive of $1B companies and enthusiastic entrepreneur. Janine, a skeptic. Misled and hurt by her experience, driven to reconsider when her daughter jumped into Network Marketing. Subscribe so you never miss an episode.
