Once upon a time, my grand-father was riding his mule back home. He found a dog almost dead. The poor animal was very thirsty. There was a deep well near. As there was no bucket, he took off a long garment around his head as a protection from the sun and tried to reach the water. And so, he could quench the dog’s thirst, pressing the garment soaked with water. Then, he gave it something to eat.

He rode his mule and set back home. The dog followed him timidly.

–    Come on! , my grand-father said.

The dog ran happily. Suddenly, the mule stopped. There was a menacing snake in the way. My grand-father tried to calm the mule.  The dog barked at the snake courageously. The venomous reptile disappeared among the bushes. The dog showed pride looking at my grand-father, who looked at the sky smiling.

He first felt pity for the dog, but now, he loved it! He was rewarded for his benevolence!

Before voting for parasites, think of your grandchildren, who will live under the debt burden. Global evil is, in fact, usury, the worst result of which is the current state where we are, more and more homeless people.

Nowadays, people are apart humanely speaking. They are closer to each other on dangerous gadgets. The way we live is more similar to a machine rather than a human being. We lost the warmth of social life. If we, humans, pretend to be modern, why most of us act primitively by smoking for example? Why do we still commit the same blunders our ancestors did when modern science was absent?

Here comes the role of intellectuals. Their duty is to show the human mistakes and let people ponder about their bad deeds.

They reached the bus station sooner than they expected. She was tired. So, she leant on him and slept. He admired her. She smiled like a baby. She was certainly dreaming. He smiled too. Despite his need to sleep, he preferred to stay awake. He felt he was responsible for her.

To celebrate her freedom, he asked her to accompany him on a trip to Morocco, where he intended to make a film.

Who cared, poor boy, about you?

Sadly, The Mediterranean has become the grave of so many innocent lives in recent years. This will be the topic of one of my next novel.

J’ai écrit cette nouvelle dix ans auparavant. Quand j’étais jeune, j’avais l’habitude de courir le long de la plage. Un jour, j’ai vu un jeune avec des béquilles. Je me suis arrêté et je l’ai salué. Cette scène m’a impressionné et le souvenir a duré jusqu’à présent. A ceux qui se dévouent pour mener une vie décente malgré le handicap, je dédie cette nouvelle.

Escribí este relato diez años atrás. Cuando era joven, solía correr a lo largo de la playa. Un día, vi un joven con muletas. Paré y lo saludé. Esta escena me impresionó y el recuerdo duró hasta hoy. A aquellos que se empeñan por llevar una vida decente a pesar del hándicap, dedico este corto relato.

I wrote this story ten years ago. When I was young, I used to run along the beach. One day, I saw a boy with arm sticks. I stopped running and saluted him. The scene impressed me and the memory lasted in my mind up till now. To those who struggle to live a decent life in spite of the handicap, I dedicate this short story.
