A Dream, an Idea, and a Book with Dr. Paul Shotsberger - Part 2

A Dream, an Idea, and a Book with Dr. Paul Shotsberger - Part 2

Today we are picking up part two of last week's interview with Dr. Paul Shotsberger.  Normally, we have authors come on Moments that Matter and talk to us about a book of theirs that’s just been published. We try to get into their backgrounds, how they came to write because we want to understand the decisions that are made along the way that have long-term consequences in our lives. Today, though, we’re going to take a different tack, and we’re going to view the writing process from the beginning rather than the end. Sometimes authors will publish an outline or a few pages or a chapter online and ask for reader reactions. Well, we’re going to do something similar with an idea Paul’s just had for a book that came to him just this week. He only has the barest outline for the book and hasn’t yet written a single word. We’re going to have a conversation about this book, and we ask that you join us in this discussion, as he shares what he believes God has given him so far.

Personal Wellness Part 2 with Dr. Allen Lee

This week on Moments that Matter we are featuring part two of a keynote address presented by Dr. Allen Lee to the faculty of Southern Wesleyan University. Dr. Lee presently serves as Program Director and Professor of Christian Counselling at Kingswood University and is a committed Christian seeking to honor God through his work in the world of counseling. His presentation deals with personal wellness, carrying significant value in this era of continued COVID. I think you will find his words both comforting and challenging as we learn to be our best selves during this ongoing global pandemic.

The Continuing Evolution of COVID-19

The Continuing Evolution of COVID-19

We are back with Dr. Teresa Williams who has been on this podcast twice before talking about the COVID pandemic, first in the spring of 2020 shortly after the outbreak, and then again in fall 2020 when we saw the first resurgence of the virus. Well, here we are again, where no one expected to be, masking and social distancing and watching the infection cases rise once again, this time due to the Delta variant of the virus. But this time is a bit different because in the spring of 2021 vaccines were first made available to the public. The vaccines have had a mixed reception, both in terms of acceptance by the public and effectiveness in warding off the new variant of the virus. So, in some ways we’re right back where we were in 2020, confused and needing direction from a medical professional. That’s why we’re so delighted to have Dr. Williams back on the program.

The Art of Storytelling Part 2

The Art of Storytelling Part 2

This week we are jumping back into the interview with the co-host of this podcast, Paul Shotsberger, for part two of the important role of storytelling. He has had two books published, including the Moments that Matter companion book, and he is currently completing his third book. All of his writing is nonfiction. Fiction writers are well aware that storytelling is the essence of what they do. However, whether we are writing fiction or non-fiction, even academic writing, Paul believes that if we are not concerned about effective storytelling we are missing out on a difference-maker for our audience and therefore a key to success for our writing. He is currently preparing a course for Clemson’s Osher Lifelong Learning Institute on the subject, which he will teach in June.

God's Plan for Unity

God's Plan for Unity

This week we are back with Father Gregory Plow, a dear friend from Dr. Paul Shotsberger's days in the math department at UNC Wilmington.  Father Gregory Plow, is a Franciscan Friar from the Third Order Regular of Saint Francis and currently pursuing his doctorate. His province sponsors two universities and he is director of the post-novitiate formation program, located in Washington, DC, preparing friars for the permanent brotherhood and priesthood. In this episode, we talk about the disciplines of the life of a friar while also addressing the recent events in the nation's capital, only remedied by Christ's prayer for unity in our world.
