Moms at Work: The Official jobs.mom Podcast

By jobs.mom

1 in 5 working moms say they’ve been passed over for an important assignment or for a promotion because they have children. And women who take even 1 year off to have kids come back to earn 40% less than their peers. Working moms outpace, outperform, and outwork their peers. So why don’t companies make an effort to support working moms? And how can working moms advocate for themselves in the workplace? Frankly, we’re tired of asking for a seat at the table. It’s time to make our own table. And we’re going to talk about how. This is Moms At Work – the official podcast from Jobs.mom.

Episode 7: Hometown Heroes: Jessica Reinmann CEO of 914Cares

Episode 7: Hometown Heroes: Jessica Reinmann CEO of 914Cares

Not all heroes wear capes (although COVID has definitely brought the spandex back).

Most heroes walk among us, shop alongside us, wait in the school pickup lines next to us.

And while they do the ordinary, they are also doing things that are quite extraordinary.

In our first Hometown Heroes episode we talk to Jessica Reinmann, CEO of 914Cares, a local Westchester, NY mission-based 501c3 nonprofit organization focused on supporting people in the community with their basic human needs. Jess talks about the disparity of wealth in the 8th most affluent county in the United States and the plight of women, and mothers especially, in the pandemic. We take a somber look at some eye-opening statistics and talk about how everyone can help, in ways big and small, and be a part of real change.

Welcome to Moms at Work!: The Official jobs.mom Podcast!

Welcome to Moms at Work!: The Official jobs.mom Podcast!

Being a working mom is complicated, confusing, and hard. There’s guilt, there’s sacrifice, and there’s stress. And on top of that, there’s a career to manage, and bosses to please that just don’t seem to understand.

The statistics are grim. In fact, 1 in 5 working moms say they’ve been passed over for an important assignment or for a promotion because they have children.

But you CAN have your cake and eat it too.

Working moms outpace, outperform, and outwork their peers. Things like efficiency, emotional intelligence, negotiations, time management, and multitasking are second nature. So why don’t companies make an effort to support working moms? And how can working moms advocate for themselves in the workplace and in their careers? We’ll be asking working mothers who are CEOs, entrepreneurs, managers, scholars, industry leaders and influencers those exact questions each week.

Because frankly, we’re tired of asking for a seat at the table. It’s time to make our own table. And we’re going to talk about how.

I’m Zabeen Mirza and this is Moms At Work.
