Ep118. I Don't Need Easy, Just Give Me Possible with Bethany Hamilton, Pro Surfer

Ep118. I Don't Need Easy, Just Give Me Possible with Bethany Hamilton, Pro Surfer

"I’ve had to sacrifice a lot of things to achieve some of the goals and dreams in my life."
- Bethany Hamilton, Ep118 The Monica Kade Podcast

On the final episode of The Monica Kade Podcast for 2019, I sat down with Pro-surfer, Bethany Hamilton. She's become a source of inspiration to millions through her story of determination, faith, and hope. At the age of 13, Bethany lost her left arm to a 14-foot tiger shark, which seemed to end her career as a rising surf star.

One month after the attack, Bethany returned to the water and within two years had won her first national title. In 2007, she realized her dream of surfing professionally and since then, her story has been told in a New York Times best selling autobiography and in the 2011 film, Soul Surfer. Bethany is involved in numerous charitable efforts, including her own foundation, Friends of Bethany, which reaches out to amputees and youth.

Using her platform as a professional athlete to promote living a fit and healthy lifestyle, she authored the book Body and Soul in 2014. Bethany’s latest project, Unstoppable, a surf documentary which showcases her as one of the best women surfers in the world, released theatrically in the USA on July 12, 2019, accompanied by a photo book and a children’s book.

Passionate about helping young women be unstoppable in life and faith, Bethany has launched a new website and online course for sharing content and facilitating connection. Her greatest joy is being a wife and mother, and she continues to touch and inspire lives globally as a professional surfer and motivational speaker.

Bethany is an incredible human being. Her determination and sheer drive to not let anything step in the way of her surfing is truly inspiring. She reminds me that if you really want something, you can have it…just go after it!

Elise was a delight to chat to. I loved her grounded energy, her truthful attitude towards parenting, meditation and business.

Ep115. Wisdom, Instagram & Motherhood with Actress, Matilda Brown

Welcome to episode 115 of The Monica Kade podcast. Today’s guest is Australian actress, writer and director, Matilda Brown. Matilda is best known for her TV series Let's Talk AboutLessons from the Grave which she both wrote and directed, and acted in. Both starring opposite her father Bryan Brown. And most recently feature film Palm Beach — also starring her dad, and directed by her mother, Rachel Ward alongside an impressive Australian cast.

And on the topic of family, Matilda and her partner Scott Gooding, (who has also been on the show earlier this year) have just become parents to little Zan.

Today we’re going to go behind the scenes of her upbringing, find out her journey into acting, talk creativity and what it’s like being a first time mum.

My conversation with Matilda was really inspiring. I loved her honesty coupled with her willingness to follow what fuels her fire-and what doesn't! While you won't find her hanging about on The Gram, you can simply embody the message of truth that she shares and look inward to see if you're living the life you want to be. Or if you're following society's "shoulds" and "have to's".

Ep113. Want a Fulfilled Life? Answer Your Creative Calling, with Chase Jarvis

On Episode of 114 of The Monica Kade podcast, I’m sitting down with a truly incredible human being: Chase Jarvis.

Aside from being a well-renowned photographer, Founder and CEO of CreativeLive—an online education platform that broadcasts live classes to an international audience on art, photography, design, marketing business and more—he also hosts The Chase Jarvis Live Show and has authored a handful of books. His most recent being Creative Calling. Oh, and he’s also survived a near death experience with an avalanche.

As soon as I heard Chase speak on creativity I knew I had to get him on the show. The way he spoke about creativity, and creative expression resonated very much with how I see it. I feel like his take on creativity challenges the status quo and goes against what many people will tell you about your Creative Calling.

His philosophy around being creative is: giving of ourselves freely, adding value and expecting nothing in return. Super powerful.

What I love most about Chase is his genuine love to connect with people; his friendly and warm nature make you feel like you've known each other for years. Talking with Chase is like having a conversation with a dear friend over coffee.

Take a listen to our chat—you’ll walk away empowered, and inspired to re-discover, or start following your creative call. I have no doubt around that.

Ep112. The Unexpected Dream: From Brain Surgery to Art to Artist in Demand with Claire Rackley

Ep112. The Unexpected Dream: From Brain Surgery to Art to Artist in Demand with Claire Rackley

“I fought so hard to live and then I was having these thoughts about not wanting to live, and it didn’t make sense.” - Claire Rackley, Ep112 The Monica Kade Podcast.
In episode 112 of The Monica Kade Podcast, I chat to Claire Rackley, an Australian Artist and Abstract Acrylic Painter. Her art intentionally provokes emotions of joy and peace through the use of bright colours and bold strokes.
But she wasn’t always an artist as such. This particular career trajectory came to life after undergoing brain and spine surgery in 2015.
Claire used her creativity as therapy to heal and recover from the trauma, but as time progressed people began to ask to purchase her artworks. She has an interest in mental health and how colour can impact a person and their emotions.
What caught my attention with Claire was her love to impact those in the waiting and recovery rooms of hospitals and medical practices with beautiful tiles on the ceiling, in the hope it would impact their state of being.
This woman is changing the world and making such a profound impact that I can’t wait to see how it ripples out into across the world.

Ep109. Choose Extraordinary: Love, Loss, Grief & Growth with Vashti Whitfield

Ep109. Choose Extraordinary: Love, Loss, Grief & Growth with Vashti Whitfield

Welcome to Episode 109 of The Monica Kade Podcast. Today’s episode is a special one. It sits close to my heart, and behind the scenes this conversation has been a personally transformational one.
Meet Vashti Whitfield. She has over twenty years experience in facilitating the transformation and development of human potential as an executive and performance coach, teacher and international speaker. However, she’s most widely known for choosing to turn her own personal loss into a catalyst for inspiring millions of people.
Her late husband, actor Andy Whitfield was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin's lymphoma in 2010 just after he’d landed the role of Spartacus in the TV Series Spartacus: Blood and Sand. This was a huge role for Andy and shot his acting career into lights, which he had been so tirelessly working towards for many years prior. He’d finally “made it”—and so very quickly this dream career and life, he and Vashti had invested so much energy into was pulled from beneath their feet.
Both Andy and Vashti decided to make a documentary, BE HERE NOW, which chronicles Andy and the family’s journey with cancer and the battle to overcome fear, loss and letting go.
The story is a heart-wrenching emotional rollercoaster. We see Andy beat Cancer the first time around, but not for good. It returns. Eventually, on September 11, 2011 Andy’s battle came to an end. Leaving behind his incredible wife Vashti, their extraordinary life and his gorgeous two young children, Jesse and Indigo.
In 2017, along with the films Director, Oscar Nominee Lilibet Foster, Vashti toured worldwide premiering and speaking about their award-winning feature film documentary Be Here Now.
If you don't already know of Vashti, you'll fall in love with her candid nature, her big heart and incredibly strong mindset. Her energy and fervour for life is infectious. Her words deeply empowering. A conversation that will open your heart and remind you of what’s truly important: THIS MOMENT NOW.

Ep106. The Woman Who Reinvented Vegemite for Those with Food Intolerances: Everymite Founder Cinnamon Morrisey

On Episode 106. The Woman Who Reinvented Vegemite for Those with Food Intolerances, we sit down with Everymite Founder Cinnamon Morrisey.

Cinnamon is one of those individuals you cross paths with and they leave a mark in your heart—as I’m sure you’ll gather from our conversation.

Aside from her down-to-earth nature and warm presence, she’s behind the brand Everymite. Everymite is the answer for those who LOVE the good ol’ Aussie vegemite (me) but cannot eat it because of food intolerances (also me).

However, now you can! Everymite is a certified organic spread that’s nutrient dense and preservative free that tastes just like vegemite. With three varieties available, you can now lather your Everymite on toast, seed crackers, keto bread (and all the other bread alternatives). Have it with cheese, avocado, or just plain ol' butter.

The Everymite story begins with her youngest son, William, who loved vegemite couldn't eat it due to having Down Syndrome. His food intolerances inspired Cinnamon to experiment with all kinds of ways to replicate a gut-friendly spread for William.

Thanks to her success, we can all benefit from her hard efforts.

And that feeling will only be there for so long and in 15 years you’re going to look back, or meet someone that’s doing what you wanted to do—and you’re going to regret not pursuing what you really wanted to.”
— Amanda LaCount, Ep103. The Monica Kade Podcast

On Episode 103 of The Monica Kade Podcast, we’re joined by Amanda LaCount. A well known hip hop dancer, choreographer, model, and influencer. Some of her most notable performances include The Ellen Show, Meghan Trainor, Katy Perry, DWTS, The Voice, and her National Dance Tour "Amanda LaCount Live". She’s also performed in a bunch of professional musical production.

Originally from Colorado, she grew up with 6 other siblings and was raised by her mum. During that time, she was also a competitive figure skater and qualified for Nationals.

One of her latest and truly inspiring projects is #breakingthestereotype™: a movement/hashtag she started which promotes body positivity and the belief that any "body" can be a dancer. She’s breaking the stereotype that all dancers must be tall, thin and blonde. Her philosophy is "If you love it, do it. It's as simple as that."

Ep101. Are you living the life of your dreams? with Sheri Salata, Former OWN Co-President, Author & Executive Producer

Ep101. Are you living the life of your dreams? with Sheri Salata, Former OWN Co-President, Author & Executive Producer

“You live a very, very different life when early on you begin to see that self-care is not extra credit. It’s not that spa treatment you treat yourself to once a year. Self-care is constantly evaluating if something is good for you or not—if something feels good to you or not.”
— Sheri Salata, Ep101. The Monica Kade podcast

Joining me today is Sheri Salata, writer-producer, Co-host of the podcast The Sheri + Nancy Show and Co-founder of
thepillarlife.com. She’s had an impressive career working as the executive producer on the Oprah Winfrey Show, and also served as co-president of Harpo Studios and OWN.

My path crossed with Sheri's virtually at first. A little while back, I was listening to Marie Forleo’s podcast, and it was the episode with Sheri. I hadn’t read the intro to learn about who she was at the time, I merely pressed play on the episode.

After a good 15 or so minutes into the conversation, Sheri started talking about her career path, that her career didn’t really take off until her 30s. My ears pricked up and I thought to myself, ‘Who is this woman?’

That’s when I knew I had to get Sheri on The Monica Kade podcast. I resonated so deeply with that message, having struggled through my 20s with knowing what I wanted to do—and the constant chop and change.
"What the world needs from you, is for you to be so filled with joy that it’s literally coming out of your pores.”
— Sheri Salata, Ep101. The Monica Kade podcast

I was genuinely thrilled when Sheri agreed to come on the show. Her story of The Beautiful No serves as a reminder that there’s always a bigger picture unfolding. Often we don’t see it. And, when we feel like we’re getting the (beautiful) 'No'—let’s not give up hope. We must not give up on our dreams. In fact, it’s a moment to dive deeper and stay true to the vision that burns in our heart.

This woman is a bundle of joy. Her warmth and candid nature make you feel like you're hanging out with a dear friend. I feel honored to have had the chance to sit down with Sheri, share some laughs and some wisdoms, that you too get to hear. I hope you enjoy the conversation. She’s an absolute delight of a woman. May you walk away knowing that you CAN live the life of your dreams!

Ep100. Start with Your Mind to Rebuild Your Body with Dr. Robert Zembroski

"Everyone is obsessed with calories. Calories are just a measurement of energy. If we focused on nutrients and not calories we wouldn’t have this obsession with weight, and probably have a healthier population of people. Ep99. Don't Listen to Fear, Express Your Joy with Boitumelo Theepe, Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy for Girls Series

Here we are. The final episode in the OWLAG series, Ep99. Don't Listen to Fear, Express Your Joy with Boitumelo Theepe.

Boitumelo Theepe has a warmth and gentle nature that was so evident the moment we connected. And yet, what resides beneath those qualities is a fierceness to go after what her heart desires. Boitumelo was the first alumni of OWLAG to graduate with a medical degree, which is a true testament to her innate ferocity.

She grew up in Soweto, and as part of the academy's inaugural class, she excelled in science and was an active member of multiple student societies, including public speaking and debate.

Before we knew her as Dr Theepe, Boitumelo completed her medical training at Stellenbosch University, graduating in 2018. At Stellenbosch, she sat as a member of the undergraduate research committee and pioneered the development of the campus gospel choir. She was one of the recipients of the prestigious Envisionit Bursary Fund, and a keynote speaker at their fundraising Gala dinner in 2018, an event aimed at empowering young people to pursue a university education.

Currently, she is practicing medicine at a renowned hospital in Cape Town, known for having carried out the world's first heart transplant.

Ep98. Choose The Person You Want to Be with Gugu Malope, Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy for Girls

Ep98. Choose The Person You Want to Be with Gugu Malope, Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy for Girls

“You need to push yourself because when those doors open, they fling open and if it’s not a door that’s open, there’s a window you can squeeze into usually.”- Gugu Malope, Ep98. The Monica Kade Podcast

In Episode 98 of The Monica Kade Podcast we talk to Gugu Malope, our fourth conversation in the Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy for Girls series.

My conversation 'Choose The Person You Want to Be' with Gugu was truly eye-opening. It forced me to take a deep look at my life, at the world around me and to remember that no matter where we come from, we have the power to choose.

We can look at where we are and know there is something more for us and we can step toward it, or we can stay put. Our power lies in the way we choose to respond to what is.

Meet Gugu Vivica Malope. She was born in the small town of Middelburg, Mpumalanga but raised by her grandmother in Johannesburg. She is part of the 2014 graduating class, The O'Paragons of the Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy for Girls.

"Leadership isn’t making people follow you and your ideologies—although that could be a component—I don’t think that’s what it is. For me, at its core, leadership is leading yourself and then inspiring people around you to almost take what they can from the way you live, to implement it on themselves." - Gugu Malope, Ep98. The Monica Kade Podcast

Gugu started her journey at OWLAG in 2008 where she was active in the leadership, sports and cultural facets of the school. She played netball, was part of the senior debating team, choir and Marimba ensemble. She continued her studies at the University of the Witwatersrand, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in International Relations and Media Studies. She is currently studying towards her Honours in Media Studies at University of South Africa (UNISA).

Her career in IT services began in 2018 through the Dimension Data Graduate Accelerate Programme and is now an Enterprise Client Manager at the Dimension Data subsidiary Internet Solutions. This conversation will change the way you look at your life. You cannot walk away not appreciating what you have. If you do, you haven’t truly listened to her story.

"There's always going to be some people who waste opportunities and some that grasp them."
- Ep97. Masego Mothei, The Monica Kade Podcast

Masego has gone on to complete her Honours degree through the same university focusing on the Chinese language (Mandarin).

Ep96. Be Intentional With Your Dream Building with Andronica Klaas, Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy for Girls Series

"Failure is not a bad thing...In the process of dreaming and living out your dream, you are going to come across roadblocks. But understanding at that moment that 'hey, this is a lesson' take a step back and figure out what that lesson is so you don't have to encounter it later in the future." - Andronica Klaas, Ep96. The Monica Kade Podcast

Welcome to Ep96. You Have to Have An Intention For Your Dream with Andronica Klaas, the second alumni graduate from my Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy Series (OWLAG).

There are some people you meet in life with that you instantly bond with. Andronica was one of these. Our conversation dived deep, fast. It was her open nature and willingness to share such intimate details of her upbringing that really moved me. I feel so grateful that I was able to be a witness of her story, and to now share this conversation with you.

While I won't share all the details with you hear, some background on Andronica begins with her growing up in South Africa, and since graduating from the Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy for Girls, she has attained a BSc in Computer Science Information Systems from Johnson C. Smith University in May of 2017.

Today she works at the Bank of America, N.A and is also a mentor for women in technology. As a member of the employee engagement committee and a volunteer for the Ignite with Tech program, she reviews resumes for potential student employees while providing them with mock interviews.

Andronica has also been invited by the bank to share her journey at the “Inspire – Women who Tech” enrichment event for female freshman and sophomore students interested in pursuing roles in Technology.

Engaging with the youth and inspiring proactiveness in solving civic engagement issues in their surrounding communities is close to her heart, and she does this through her workshops. She has worked with organisations such as EmpowerHERment, Camp LeadUp and InTech.

Welcome to Episode 95 of The Monica Kade Podcast. This week we kick off a 5-week podcast series with The Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy for Girls (OWLAG).

My first OWLAG alumni guest is Avukile Zoya, who was born and raised in South Africa. She is the youngest of 4 siblings and was raised by her mom and sister—who was only four years older than her.

Our conversation is a deep dive into her life before OWLAG and the experiences to date, which have shaped her into the women she is today.

Avukile’s story is a powerful illustration of how having access to quality education and a tight-knit and empowering social circle further ignites the flame of our hearts desires. She reminds us that no matter where we come from, life is up to us. We choose how to respond to life and which direction we want to steer our ship—we must only tune into the whispers of our soul.

Ep94. Is Love Free? The Love Experiment with Amir Zoghi

"I realised, I'm comfortable. I'm too comfortable. I'm comfortable in my lifestyle, in my self...For me, life is experienced outside of your comfort zone...This Love Experiment has put me outside my comfort zone." - Amir Zoghi, Ep94. The Monica Kade Podcast

In Episode 94 of The Monica Kade Podcast I sit down with International Speaker, Coach and Aerobatic Pilot, Amir Zoghi.

On the 1st May, 2019 he released his $6,600.00 signature coaching program: OMG (Oneness Mentoring Group) to the world, for free! A program that brings in 80% of his income. Why?

Because over the past 19 years he's been subjected to people's comments saying, "If it's about Love, then shouldn't it be free? Why are you charging people for your program?" Then on the flip side he's had individuals saying, "I love your content and your work, but I'm not going to do your program because you're not charging for it. You don't value yourself. It shouldn't be free".

Feeling like he couldn't win, he decided to do an experiment purely for himself, which is now running as THE LOVE EXPERIMENT. And he's going through his own process around the question, IS LOVE FREE?

Listen in to our conversation where we talk on who he is, why he's doing this and what's the experience been like so far.

You'll Learn About
Who is Amir Zoghi and what does he do?
What is The Love Experiment?
Why Amir is running The Love Experiment
Why he didn’t release the OMG program 6 months ago when he first felt the feeling
What his inner process was around following this feeling
Why it’s imperative to follow what we feel regardless of circumstances or how it will impact others
The response from his audience and the wider community so far

Ep92. Use Your Inner Wisdom to Eat with Liv Kaplan, Nutritionist

Ep92. Use Your Inner Wisdom to Eat with Liv Kaplan, Nutritionist

"My overall mission isn’t to have people lose weight or fit into a certain amount of macros, but I want them to feel the love for the kitchen that I do.” - Liv Kaplan, Ep92 The Monica Kade Podcast

Episode 92 of The Monica Kade Podcast was a riot to record. My guest was Liv Kaplan, nutritionist and passionate foodie with a keen eye for all things health and wellness.

I’ve been following Liv for quite a while now—on Instagram that is. Not to yoga or the farmer’s market or anything—that’d be weird. So let me say this…not only do her clean, sugar, gluten, grain and dairy free recipes make your eyes pop, they pretty much inspire you to drop what you’re doing, grab your debit card and run to the grocery store—stat! You think I’m joking.

In Ep92. Use Your Inner Wisdom to Eat, we share a healthy dose of laughter, blend it with some golden nuggets of wisdom and drizzle in some simple ideas that you can adopt as part of your own conscious approach to health. Plus, we get all the goss on her latest eBook, CREATE.

Aside from my love for her dessert recipes, it’s her easy-going, comical but real approach to health and food that makes her so likeable. Her message is simple.

Liv’s recipes focus on mood-boosting and blood sugar balancing goodness, and she believes eating well should be effortless, not stressful! If you live in Sydney, Australia, you can find this bronzed up foodie on the shore of Bondi Beach. She’s a living example of how proper nutrition is an integral part of our overall health—but you’re not going to die if you take a detour.

If she’s not getting creative in the kitchen, you can find her getting salty in the ocean, getting zen on the yoga mat or picking up fresh produce from the local farmer’s market.

GRAB your green juice, turmeric latte, bulletproof coffee—or beverage of choice; plug in those earphones and consume this episode in one sitting—or with a friend, if you think you can’t do it alone. We believe you can.

Why she doesn’t attach herself to food labels
How her diet has evolved over recent years

Today, I share with you a lesson in appreciation that life dished up to me last week. It's funny how sometimes you don't realise how far away from your centre you really are. And, if you're lucky life will remind you. I say 'lucky' because for me, in each moment of each day I strive to be the fullest and truest expression of myself. And when I'm not, that's quickly rectified.

We only have so much energy in a day...why spend it playing pointless and monotonous poker machines in your mind (your recycled thoughts being the coins)? #notworthit

I thought I'd share the lesson with you as maybe you're experiencing something similar, or possibly a lack of appreciation for your life is what's holding you back. Don't let it be.

Enjoy the Pep Talk, and as always, if you enjoy the episode, please share it with a friend who could use a Pep Talk.

Thanks for listening.

Ep90. How to Build A Real & Lasting Relationship with Mark Groves, Human Connection Specialist

"It's important for people to understand that wherever you hold resentment...that's a place where you don't prioritize yourself." - Mark Groves, Ep90. The Monica Kade Podcast  In Episode 90 of The Monica Kade Podcast: How to Build A Real & Lasting Relationship, I had the pleasure of sitting down with Mark Groves. He has a specialised interest in the area of Human Connection. He’s an author, speaker and sales consultant.  Aside from his professional titles, he’s just a really cool guy doing some incredible work in the world. I don’t say that lightly. I found his work on Instagram—as you’ll hear in the episode—and was really moved by the way he writes about relationships. But sitting down to chat with him was another level. If he lived in Australia, I’d totally have him over as a dinner guest. He’s intelligent, easy-going and just one of those people you enjoy having a conversation with. No BS, just pure heart. And I like those kind of people. He’s in love with science, psychology, and uncovering the mysteries of what makes great relationships work. Speaking of that, he’s certain there are no “secrets” when it comes to great relationships. Rather, he believes that all relationships are by design and we are all the architects of what we want. Mark has a Certificate in Applied Positive Psychology and has written for Plenty of Fish, Thought Catalog, Goodmen Project and is the Relationship Columnist for 24 Hours Newspaper. When he’s not working with clients you’ll find him traveling the globe, playing in the mountains and ocean, or pretty much anything that gets his heart beating in the paradise that is Vancouver, BC. Learn About -  How he became a human connection specialist? -  What he had to do to master his understanding and approach to relationships -  Why your relationship with yourself if first paramount  -  How you measure up your worth in a relationship -  How to create healthy boundaries in a partnership -  What marriage used to be and why it’s no longer that -  How you can equip yourself to be a better partner -  How he helps people ‘understand their emotional matrix by mastering themselves through their word” -  What he really thinks about your “List” for your ultimate partner -  Is it possible to feel free in a relationship  Signature Questions  -  Sunset or sunrise and why—plus he shares a really cool anecdote about his answer! -  If he wasn’t in his current career, what he’d like to attempt -  A piece of wisdom he’s been passed down and lives by

Ep89. [Health] What You Need To Know About That Body You Want

Ep89. [Health] What You Need To Know About That Body You Want

In Episode 89 of Pep Talks for Your Soul, I talk about some things you ought to consider before you chase after 'that' body you want.

I think every woman on the planet is susceptible to feeling shame or discontent in her skin. After all we live in a world that's telling us how we 'should' be and how we 'should' look.

Let's get real for a minute...the 'perfect body' is not what you actually want and even if you do attain it, unless you've stopped to reflect on what's driving you to aspire to such a body, it ain't going to change how you feel. You're still going to feel the same. Take it from someone who's subjected her body to eating disorders, gruelling workouts and insane ways of eating, living and being.

Until I realised, I needed to address what lay beneath.  In this short episode I share a few highlights that'll support you to stop running on the mental treadmill and move towards a more peaceful way of being.

You can have the body you love, but that's not necessarily the body you think you want.

The body you love is the body you feel good and alive in. It's the body that allows you to be your best in all areas of your life.

Enjoy this Pep Talk and leave me a comment on Instagram @MonicaKade if you found it valuable.

Ep88. Why Real Empowerment Isn't Built on Abs & A Booty, Amber Dodzweit Riposta, Pro Athlete & Fitness Model

Ep88. Why Real Empowerment Isn't Built on Abs & A Booty, Amber Dodzweit Riposta, Pro Athlete & Fitness Model

"I love to work out, I love to run. And you know, there was no end goal for me. There was no body I had in mind. I just did what I was made to do what I love." - Amber Dodzweit Riposta, Ep88. The Monica Kade Podcast

Yes, she’s beautiful, got a killer smile and is a weapon in the gym. And yes, she has a physique that so many women would kill for. But that’s not what I love most about this woman. What inspired me to have her on the podcast was her honesty, humility and ability to not take herself too seriously in an industry that does.

In Episode 88 of The Monica Kade Podcast: Why Real Empowerment Ain't Built On Abs & A Booty, I sit down with Amber Dodzweit Riposta; a women's circuit training expert, 13x fitness cover model, All-American Track and Field athlete and X-national champion professional tackle football player. She created BUILT FOR HER (an online women's athletic training club) in 2014 to teach women how to find freedom and a deeper sense of purpose through athletic training and empowerment. She lives in Fort Lauderdale, Florida and is married to Holistic Nutritionist Andrew Riposta. She also creates athletic training content for women from all over the world with the basis that a woman's appearance must always be secondary to her capabilities.

She’s had her own trials and tribulations like the rest of us, but it’s her determined nature that’s enabled her to rise into who she is today. Oh, and if you’re still hung up on her physique, you HAVE to listen to this conversation. Because as she shares, her love for working out was never to attain a particular body shape.

Our chat is a beautiful reminder around being true to oneself, following what you love and when we do so we give space for those around us to do the same.

I’ve watched her social media presence evolve over the years, and while I feel she’s always shared uplifting and empowering messages, it’s now more than ever that I resonate and feel her message is much needed in our world.

Oh, be sure to join her team for The Oxygen Challenge #5. Do that here.

Learn About:

-  Her family, where she grew up and in what part they played in athletic interests
-  How she got into fitness modelling
-  How quickly her career took off and what she truly felt behind the success
-  Who she became once she started fitness modelling
-  What influence and impact the people around her had on her career and life
-  Why she chose to walk away from a high flying fitness modelling career
-  The most eye opening experience the modelling industry have given her
-  What inspired her to be more real with her social media audience
-  Does she think there’ll be a time in the future where body image won’t play such a huge part in our lives?
-  How Built For Her (her online training club) came to fruition

Signature Questions:

-  Sunset or Sunrise and why?
-  What career would Amber attempt if not in her current one?

Ep87. [Mind] Girl, (or Boy) Get It Off Your Chest!

Ep87. [Mind] Girl, (or Boy) Get It Off Your Chest!

In Episode 87 of Pep Talks for Your Soul, I talk about getting it off your chest.

I don't know about you, but for me expressing how I feel in the past was struggle street. I was much better at bottling it all up, keeping the peace and carrying all my feelings and emotions inside of me.

I became a master bottler.  I was a professional at making it appear that my life was together or that I wasn't affected by things...until I wasn't. Or until I had a mental breakdown.

And, if you relate, then you'll love this episode. And even if you don't have a problem expressing what you feel, maybe your partner does. Maybe your bestie does, and perhaps this will be the episode you can lovingly share and say, 'Hey, I thought you may like this'.

To be the best version of ourselves (in each moment) we have to look at what's keeping us from being anything but that. That takes courage. It takes a willingness to say (to ourselves), I'm not being mature about how I'm feeling. And this approach of keeping things inside this treasure chest ain't serving me no more...I'm ready to step into a greater version of myself.

More empowering right? Right. Hi-Five.

Enjoy the episode. Oh, feel free to tag me on social with any of your takeaways. @MonicaKade

Ep85. Why You Must Live Outside Your Comfort Zone with Ren McGann, Big Wave Photographer

Ep85. Why You Must Live Outside Your Comfort Zone with Ren McGann, Big Wave Photographer

“It’s that rawness of being in the moment. There’s just so much going on around you. Your focus is so pinpointed…I find it so relaxing.”

- Ep85. Ren McGann, The Monica Kade Podcast

Ren McGann's and my path collided via Instagram. I very quickly fell in love with his big wave photographs and it wasn't long before gut instinct urged me to get him on the podcast show. I follow A LOT of wave photographers but over the years, nothing has moved me in the way his photography has. We got to chatting, and the more I found about him through his website and the other media articles that have featured him, the more I wanted to know.

His down-to-earth nature, coupled with a genuine love for making connections and bettering the lives of those who cross his path really stood out for me. And so, this week I’m stoked to welcome Ren to Episode 85 of The Monica Kade podcast.

He’s a Western Australian photographer specialising in big wave photography. He’s always had a fascination for big waves and extreme weather. His first trip to ‘The Right’—one of the biggest wave spots in the world—sparked his passion for photography and dramatically changed the direction of his life. He went from being a commercial mariner for 10 years, running all sorts of vessels out of Exmouth in eco-tourism, fishing, oil and gas, cray-fishing amongst others to immersing himself amongst mother nature's gnarliest yet magnificent waves and keenest surfers. If you haven’t seen his photography, you must. I’m a huge fan of big and burly waves, but Ren’s photos capture more than a wave. They’re imbued with something I just can’t put into words.

I honestly loved this conversation with Ren and I hope you do too.

Learn About:

- What inspired him becoming a mariner?
- What he loved most about that part of his life
- The mental challenge of breaking out of a good life and staying where he was
- What the quote on his website, “We find ourselves through exploration” means to him
- When and how his interest in photography came into focus
- What it’s like to see the world through his eyes as a photographer
- How he knows when the perfect moment is to take the shot
- What he loves most about big waves
- What he’s learned about himself through photographing big waves
- The down low on what it’s really like for those of us who haven’t experienced being in the ocean around these waves?
- What his fascination with waves is

Plus much more!

Ep 81. Do Less & Live More with Kate Northrup, Best-selling Author & Entrepreneur

Ep 81. Do Less & Live More with Kate Northrup, Best-selling Author & Entrepreneur

"If you're not going to clear the space now...You're never going to have the space."
- Kate Northrup, Ep81. The Monica Kade Podcast

Welcome to Episode 81 of The Monica Kade Podcast. Today we’re talking with Kate Northrup. She’s an entrepreneur, bestselling author, and mother, who discovered that her “on purpose” work and dream are to support ambitious, motivated and successful women to light up the world without burning themselves out in the process.

Kate’s genuine nature, humorous soul and light-heartedness around the ups and downs of her life are what makes her so relatable. She's one of those rare people you meet and immediately feel like putting on the kettle so you can chit-chat over tea.

In this conversation, we also talk in-depth about her latest book, Do Less: A Revolutionary Approach to Time Management for Busy Moms. And I have to say, it’s been one of my favourite reads this year. There were so many moments where I was saying, ‘Yes. OMG. YES!’ The book found me in a time where I needed to ‘Do Less’ and honour my body’s needs so I could move forward with what I loved.

What I love most about this book is its simple message: BE PRESENT. Go moment by moment.

If you’re like the many women in Kate’s community and me, sometimes you get too focused on all the to-do’s each day, that you forget to BE.

This book is a way to slow down, get clear on what truly matters—to you—and execute on only that.

If you only pick up one book in 2019—to read, of course—pick Do Less. I cross my heart you won’t be disappointed. A read for all mothers and businesswomen.

Let’s build a world where busy isn’t glorified, and productivity and results aren’t tied to worth.

>> Listen to the episode above. You’ll be bursting with newfound joy if you do! <<

LISTEN TO KATE NORTHRUP’S ‘DO LESS’ APPROACH SO YOU CAN BE MORE AND HAVE TIME FOR THE PEOPLE AND PROJECTS THAT YOU TRULY LOVE.

Ep 80. What's Real Food? Where do you begin? with Steph Lowe, The Natural Nutritionist

Ep 80. What's Real Food? Where do you begin? with Steph Lowe, The Natural Nutritionist

"I'm all for someone having a goal around performance or fat loss or whatever it might be that they come to see me for in the first place, but we have nothing without quality of life. There's no point being old if you're very unwell and on a whole suite of medications, at least in my opinion. That's not my idea of quality of life."

- Steph Lowe, Ep80. The Monica Kade podcast

In Episode 80 of The Monica Kade podcast I got to chat to the founder of The Natural Nutritionist, Steph Lowe. Steph started the The Natural Nutritionist as a way of celebrating the importance of real food—and she’s done an incredible job so far. And, if you didn’t know, aside from being a sports nutritionist, she’s a triathlete and author of The Real Food Athlete and most recently Low Carb, Healthy Fat Nutrition—today’s book giveaway.

What I love about Steph is her no-nonsense approach to food. I love how knowledgeable she is on her industry and how she talks about health and nutrition in an easy to digest way.

I think if we weren’t at the mercy of Melbourne’s blackout cutting Steph’s power short, we probably could’ve chat until sundown on all things health and lifestyle.

She’s got an insane passion for spreading a positive message about real food and the incredible affect it has on performance—which is actually how I discovered her myself—and I have no doubt your ears will prick up the moment you hear our conversation.

Ep78. A Mother’s Choice: Save Her Unborn Baby or Her Own Life w. Elle Halliwell, Journalist + Author

"When your whole future is taken away from you —or what you think is your future—there is absolutely no choice but to be present.
Because you’re grasping for every second to spend with your loved ones. Every minute counts." - Elle Halliwell, Ep78. The Monica Kade Podcast

In Episode 78 of The Monica Kade podcast, I spoke with Elle Halliwell journalist, author and mum.

By the time Elle and I sat down to chat, we’d already bonded over being Northern Beaches locals—although she’s now crossed the bridge and lives in Bondi, which is a shame, but I didn’t hold it against her. I’d also seen the sweetest mother and son happy snaps on her Instagram. And having read her book, A Mother’s Choice, I know the spark of magnificence young Tor is in her life today.

For year’s Elle’s kept millions of Australians up to date on entertainment health and style—thanks to her work with the country’s top media outlets.

Her career has taken her overseas reporting on global entertainment and fashion stories. She’s interviewed international stars including Angelina Jolie, Oprah Winfrey, One Direction, Robert Pattinson, Taylor Lautner, Cate Blanchett, and Miranda Kerr for television, radio and print.

But that’s not the focus of our conversation today. Instead, I wanted to share her story around being diagnosed with Myeloid Leukaemia—a rare blood cancer—and days after finding out she was pregnant with her first child.

Ep77. How to Build Your Health Master Plan with Scott Gooding, PT, Health Coach & Author

“I think there's this urge and almost a need to get healthy by the weekend, you know? So people are constantly trying to find this quick, fast-hard solution. I want to get fit, I want to get lean, I want to get healthy by the end of the month or maybe even two months. But it doesn't really work like that. Your health will be measured by what you do most of the time over the longest period of time.”- Scott Gooding, Ep77. The Monica Kade podcast

In Episode 77 of The Monica Kade podcast, I had the pleasure of sitting down with Scott Gooding; passionate cook, health-coach and PT. I felt very welcome in his Northern Beaches tropical oasis filled with light and surrounded by luscious palms and of course, the cicadas reminding you it’s summertime in Australia. I loved the laid-back beaches vibe that made you want to plonk yourself somewhere comfortable and disappear into a book, or pick up an acoustic guitar and play a little tune...Or try your hand at the 1000 piece puzzle that sat on the long communal table we sat down at.

“It’s a bit of a rock ’n’ roll house”, Scott said with a grin as he showed me the image on the puzzle box. His mission was to piece together a group of colourful Australian animals eating ice creams. "The pastel colours in the background make it tricky..." he trailed off.

If his name sounds familiar, it might be that you’ve seen him on the semi-finals of Channel 7s My Kitchen Rules. Or maybe you have one of his books—possibly one from his Clean Living book series with one of our past guests Luke Hines. More recently he’s written The Keto Diet and The Keto Diet Cookbook, which we delved into in our conversation.

We also chatted about his 8-week online health program giving you the essential ingredients to live a healthy lifestyle and feel great called RECONDITIONED.

FCC - Ep12. Clarity, Intuition & Self Expression

Welcome to episode 12 of the Fiercely Courageous Conversations podcast with Dr Rebecca Ray and myself, Monica Kade.
