NYCC Interview: Todd McFarlane
If you were to ask the average comic book reader walking around New York Comic Con to list the most prominent creators of the modern age of comics, odds are the majority of them would include Todd McFarlane. Best known as one of the co-founders of Image Comics, where he created Spawn, McFarlane also had stints at DC and Marvel. It was at the latter where he also left his indelible thumbprint on The Amazing Spider-Man, co-creating Venom — one of Marvel’s most popular characters of the last three decades — with writer David Michelinie. We caught up with McFarlane at New York Comic Con this weekend to learn more about the new Spawn movie he’s working on, his thoughts on its predecessor 20 years later, the 30th anniversary of Venom, and what he’s up to at McFarlane Toys. Episode 111: 'Logan' Best Superhero Film Of 2017
'Logan' has just created two scenarios for the 2017 film year. Either 2017 will go down as the greatest year in superhero films, or 'Logan' is the best superhero film of 2017.  James Mangold and Hugh Jackman put together an amazing movie with appropriate use of the R-rating when it comes to violence and dialogue. EJ puts this film in his top three, and Matt put 'Logan' in his top 5 superhero films of all-time edging out 'Guardians of the Galaxy.' This is a spoiler free review of 'Logan.' Jim Terry Interview: An Artist's Journey To Standing Rock
Chicago comic book artist Jim Terry who is half Native American (Ho-Chunk Nation) traveled to Standing Rock in early November to deliver supplies to water defenders. The journey inspired him to create a stunning piece of artwork, and this is his story.  Terry wanted to make clear that he was not speaking for Standing Rock Sioux, but from his personal experiences. "Here is the most amazing that I took away from it. I went to the prayer that morning. This elder was speaking and he said, I'm going to lightly paraphrase, but he said, "There are people from DAPL who have infiltrated our camp and they're walking around our camp. So, if you see anybody who looks suspicious." At this point, I'm like okay what are we supposed to do. He says, "Invite them to the fire, have a cup of coffee with him. Talk to him, and tell him we are doing this for his children too." And that is no joke the philosophy of the camp," said Terry.   "One of the things that I noticed when I was out there, when these elders spoke, he said "Good morning relatives" to everyone, everybody that was there, you had every kind of race, sexual orientation, everything was "Good morning my relatives. We're all connected here. We're all on this planet together. We are the custodians of this planet, we are not the conquers of this planet. We are its custodians." I hope that if nothing else this raises some awareness about the direction we can go in from here on out," said Terry.

Interview: Jesse Blaze Snider 'Black Light District'
Jesse Blaze Snider is our guest to talk about his latest book BLACK LIGHT DISTRICT. Jesse Blaze Snider and co-writer/producer Will Knox’s groundbreaking online comic book/music anthology will appear in print for the very first time this October from Image Comics. BLACK LIGHT DISTRICT features six epic illustrated stories set to the music of geek culture-inspired “Black Light District” EP, with art contributions from these stellar talents: Chris Burnham (NAMELESS, OFFICER DOWNE), Phil Hester (MYTHIC, Green Arrow), Jason Pearson (BODY BAGS, Legion of Superheroes), Andrea Tamme (Adventure Time), David Witt (The Growler Magazine), J.K. Woodward (Fallen Angel, Star Trek), Michael Spicer (MYTHIC, Sons of Anarchy), Erik Larsen (SAVAGE DRAGON), and Chris Eliopoulos (SAVAGE DRAGON, Pet Avengers). “This [project] is a love letter to comics, said Snider. “These are the most personal songs I’ve ever written—while they’re superhero metaphors, I think they’ll be personal to everybody, because they’re based in emotions I think everyone has felt.” In BLACK LIGHT DISTRICT, comics and music come together to tell six separate stories with one thing in common: everything is at stake. "Jesse gave us a melody and lyrics for inspiration, then just let us do what we do,” said Woodward. “It was not only one of my favorite creative experiences, but, in my opinion, my best sequential work produced to date.” Hester added: "Working on Madhattan with Jesse, Erik [Larsen], and Chris [Eliopoulos] was a joy.” "I can't think of a time I've worked harder or been more filled with the spirit of inspiration than working on this cover,” said Burnham. “I can comfortably look at this piece and know in my heart that PummelHorse was me at my all-time peak.” BLACK LIGHT DISTRICT: SIX ISSUES (ONE SHOT) hits comic book stores Wednesday, October 12th.

Interview: Stephen Kramer Glickman 'Storks'
Animated films involving talking animals usually have insane plots when you put them down on paper, but it is this over the top creativeness that makes them endearing. “Hey, it’s a movie about storks, and they deliver packages. They’re like Amazon, and you’re auditioning to play a pigeon that wears a toupee. And I was like, ‘Sounds good! Sign me up. I’m in.’ That absolutely sounds ridiculous,” said Actor-comedian Stephen Kramer Glickman. Glickman called in to talk about his latest film ‘Storks’ also starring Andy Samberg, Jennifer Aniston, and Kelsey Grammer. Glickman voices Pigeon Toady. The conversation led to an inside look at the process of developing a character. “We are riffing in this movie with Nic Stoller (writer-director), Doug Sweetland (director), and Brad Lewis (producer). That’s what’s happening. It’s their movie, and they are brilliant, and I trusted in them one hundred and fifty-thousand percent. (…) I would make them laugh, and then we would push it and Nic Stoller would say let’s try it, make it weirder, make it weirder, try it more insane, push it more. Then I would push until he was like falling off his couch laughing,” said Glickman. As a huge nerd, Glickman also talked about his comics, toys, the randomness of Comic-Con, and where his girlfriend draws the line (no building Legos at the dining room table). “Comic-Con is the weirdest grouping of people. It’s crazy. I’ve had experiences where I’m standing there trying to introduce Joss Whedon to M. Night Shyamalan. I know neither of these people, but somehow I end up in the weird situation where I’m talking to Joss Whedon at a party and M. Night Shyamalan walks up, and I talked to him an hour earlier. So I go, ‘M. Night, you know Joss right?’ and they go, nice to meet you, thanks for introducing us,” said Glickman. Check out Storks in theaters on September 23. Jake 'The Snake' Roberts Interview
WWE Superstar Jake 'The Snake' Roberts called the Monkeys Fighting Robots hotline Tuesday to discuss his latest film 'The Bet,' his spoken word tour, and the state of the WWE. JAKE “THE SNAKE” ROBERTS BIO Menacing, intimidating and totally hypnotic in the ring, Jake “The Snake” Roberts was a Superstar capable of taking you down physically as well as psychologically. Slithering to the ring with a monstrous python concealed in a burlap sack, Jake used fear as a weapon as deftly as he used pain. His DDT finishing move is still one of the most brutal finishers ever unleashed on a Superstar. The son of noted grappler Grizzly Smith, Roberts was born into a sports-entertainment family. Eager to follow in his father’s footsteps, Roberts began competing in the early ’70s, making a name for himself in promotions throughout the South. In 1983, he tasted success for the first time, winning the NWA World Television Championship while wrestling with Georgia Championship Wrestling. Roberts then took his talent, and his patented DDT finisher to the pinnacle of entertainment, WWE, arriving at the promotion in 1986. Right out of the gate, the Snake sought to make a name for himself, targeting fan favorite Ricky “The Dragon” Steamboat. He made his intentions known when he savagely DDT’d Steamboat onto a concrete floor, putting him in the hospital for weeks. As if that wasn’t enough to curry hatred from the WWE Universe, Roberts stirred the pot further each week, hosting his show, The Snake Pit. A talk segment in the vein of Piper’s Pit, Roberts’s show was the perfect forum for him to rile both Superstars and fans alike with his twisted point of view. As time wore on, Roberts soon became a fan favorite, thanks in part to his memorable rivalries with the Honky Tonk Man, the Million Dollar Man and Andre the Giant. WWE Universe fans from that generation will never forget the Giant’s paralyzing fear of Jake’s pet python, Damien. In the early 90s, after a series of bizarre skirmishe

Episode 54: Anthony Ingruber
Actor Anthony Ingruber called in to talk about his experience working on 'Age of Adaline.' The young actor earned the role in the film because of his uncanny resemblance to Harrison Ford, and his Youtube impression from 2008. The director of 'Age of Adaline,' Lee Toland Krieger, reached out to Ingruber after watching the impersonation. The video in question currently sits at half a million views and and has cultivated a loyal and vocal fanbase for Ingruber. “It was such a crazy turn of events that the director of 'Age of Adaline,' Lee Toland Krieger stumbled upon my Youtube videos, in particular being the Harrison Ford one of course. After a Skype chat with him and a live audition, he offered me the part. It was a very strange, “one in a million sort of shot.” The odds of Harrison Ford playing that guy, then meeting that guy, and the guy being me was just crazy but really wonderful,” said Ingruber. Before 'Age of Adaline' fans were impressed with Anthony Ingruber’s Han Solo impersonation, but after Lucasfilm announced in July they are working on 'Star Wars Anthology: Han Solo,' the internet exploded with fan support for Ingruber to be cast as a young Han. Several months have passed since the announcement of the film, and we checked in with Ingruber to see if he’s had conversations with Lucasfilm. “Well that’s the thing about this industry you can’t really say anything until it is time to announce something. Again, I’m not saying there is anything to announce. I’m definitely trying my hardest to at least get a shot at it , because it would be amazing and it’s something I’d love to do. I’m working towards making it happen, fingers crossed,” said Ingruber. 'Star Wars Anthology: Han Solo' will be directed by Phil Lord and Chris Miller and is scheduled for release on May 25th, 2018.
