Police reform often includes the increase of police budgets with little accountability on the use of those funds and ultimately doesn’t address the structural issues they’re meant to reform. An initiative called 8 To Abolition, created in response to the 8 Can’t Wait police reform campaign, lays out 8 concrete steps that can be taken towards abolition, including: defunding the police, demilitarizing communities, removing police from schools, freeing people from jails and prisons, repealing laws that criminalize survival, investing in community self-governance, providing safe housing for everyone, and investing in care instead of cops. The Digital Abolitionist is a comprehensive website that amplifies the voices of people directly impacted by the prison industrial complex, organizes and tracks ongoing abolitionist efforts, and offers free access to digital texts on abolition and transformative justice. We encourage our listeners to take the time to learn more about the abolitionist movement, and envision a better, more just world entirely without the need for police.

2.10: Quitting Makes Me Angry (ft. Kathryn Edwards)
Lauren and Rachel speak with Kathryn Edwards of DRKMTTR Collective and Donors about her beginning as a show booker, the cyclical challenges in running an all ages DIY-venue, and maintaining her unbridled resiliency.
DRKMTTR has been a hub for DIY shows in Nashville for years, and has operated out of its current location since 2019. While live music has ceased to exist for the majority of 2020, DRKMTTR and the volunteers who run it remain a shining example of how spaces like that can still be used to serve their community. During the pandemic, they've offered up their venue for organizers and currently house the Nashville Free Store, where members of the community can openly share resources, with no one being turned away or questioned about their needs. Donate to help keep the store stocked, and subscribe to the DRKMTTR Patreon to help ensure DRKMTTR’s sustainability.
