E18: Sports Psychologist Scott Malcom Part 1: Seeing Psychology As A Key Part Of Improvement

Episode 18 of the More Than Backpacking Podcast is with an old friend of mine Scott Malcom who is now an aspiring Sports Pscyhologist at Georgia Southern University.  We worked together at Camp Winaukee, a summer camp for boys in the US, and since then have not made much time to catch up. So we decided to have a big catch up and talk all things comfort zones, backpacking, sports & sports psychology. Scott is a great guy, one of the most disciplined guys I know and a hard worker which I think you can hear from this episode. He is loving his work despite long days, because he is passionate about what he is doing, and he is always trying to improve himself and his life. It was great to catch up with Scott, and stay tuned next week for Part 2 where we speak about expanding comfort zones and applying it in all areas of life. E16: Jump Out Of The Plane & Find The Parachute On The Way- Tarek Kholoussy on Growth & Giving Back

Episode 16 of the More Than Backpacking Podcast is an incredible episode with Tarek Kholoussy, a guy who I met through a volunteering event he hosted through his new social organisation Nomads Giving Back. He left the corporate world behind in his 30s to travel the world & is now drawn to give back and connect people to be able to give back whether they are travelling, nomadic, or expats. We had a great chat also about being in the passenger seat of life without knowing & learning to become more aware. The more I spoke with him the more I found out new things and got more inspired myself. It’s an amazing conversation & one of the best I have had whilst living around the world. Go follow @NomadsGivingBack on social to support Tarek, maybe you or someone you know can help them & watch out for part 2 next week where we hear about Tarek pushing his mind & body to new limits including a marathon at Everest Basecamp!! Follow me on Instagram @doneill05 & the amigos @JustThreeAmigos to keep up with our travel, projects & giving back. Have a good one boys and girls.

E13: 55 Years Old & Can’t Wait for the Next 55: Helping Latinos All Over The World

Episode 13 of The More Than Backpacking Podcast is a great conversation with a 55 Year Old Cuban-Miamian, Alex, who was travelling in Latin America ‘until they kick me out’. I recorded this conversation whilst cooking up breakfast in ivy hostel Medellin. A great hostel for anyone in Medellin. Alex was a great guy, a character with a heart of gold. He helped Latinos back home in the US, and had a mission of helping less privileged people throughout his travels. Something that resonated with Just Three Amigos over the past 13 months. He even helped us with donations and cookies for our movie and ice cream day for our kids fútbol team in Comuna 13, Medellín. One of the Amigos , James, was on breakfast duty with me so chipped into the conversation too. I hope this provides value for someone so please share it with someone who you think might like it, including a 55 year-old who needs a kick up the backside to remind them how much time they have left!! E12: Hiking Podcast: Hawaii Volcano Eruptions & Turtle Conservation on a Gap Year With Maya

Episode 12 of the More Than Backpacking Podcast was a live podcast whilst hiking in Panama. I met Maya in our hostel through some friends and we went hiking together for a great day out. Hiking up to waterfalls or a viewpoint really is all about the journey there and the conversations, laughs & fun you have on the journey. Often with the people you’re with just like a lot of things! We had a great laugh and I recorded part of the introductory conversation I had with Maya. It’s only short but you can hear from our breath that we probably needed a break anyway! I hope this can provide some value to you and please share this with anyone you think may get some value from this and see that it’s better to do more than just backpacking. E11: Lower Expectations When Travelling & Dutch Sororities At Bambuda Lodge, Panama

E11: Lower Expectations When Travelling & Dutch Sororities At Bambuda Lodge, Panama

Episode 11 of the More Than Backpacking Podcast is a conversation with Thirza over lunch at Bambuda Lodge in Bocas del Torro, Panama. A unique and magical hostel, we looked over the Caribbean islands having lunch and had a good chat about what she learned from travelling, being cash rich at the start before you realise you’re broke and not expecting too much from travels which can increase happiness. It taught me a lot about Dutch university systems and sororities as Thirza was and still is part of a sorority in the Netherlands. An easy conversation in a hostel when backpacking you just have to start talking and you’ll learn something. Please share this episode with somebody if you think they can get value from it & on your social media too. It’ll mean the world ! Don’t forget to follow mine and Just Three Amigos journey on Social Media @doneill05 & @JustThreeAmigos. Gracias, Adiós.

Episode 10 of The More Than Backpacking Podcast sees me back in Bogotá, Colombia after Christmas & having a great conversation with Charlotte whilst having a coffee in the hostel. We speak about her interest in Social Enterprise & how she is doing personal & professional research whilst backpacking through South America because she is passionate about it. It ties in well with my work with Just Three Amigos over out journey in the past year and we talk about the Get Your Kits Out Project that we have in Medellin, Colombia. I hope this provides value and shows you how easy a great conversation can spark in a hostel when you talk to people and how interesting people can be & what a great journey everyone is on. Please share it with anyone who you might think gets some value from it & if you can please leave a review. E7: My First Spanish Podcast- Mate Session with 2 Argentinos

E7: My First Spanish Podcast- Mate Session with 2 Argentinos

This is a great achievement for me to be able to post a podcast in Spanish. I have been trying to improve since living in Latin America and I certainly prove that here. A mate session is a huge social thing for Argentinians as they drink hot water and herbs out of a cup through a metal straw. It is hard to understand until you do it and it’s great to stimulate conversation (great when you record conversations for your podcast)! If you don’t understand then share with a Spanish speak, who knows they might be able to get some value and see that it is more than backpacking. E3: Nicaraguan Refugee Explains Why She Can't Go Back Home

Episode 3 of the More Than Backpacing Podcast sees me talk to Nicaraguan who cannot go back to her home country because of the corrupt government and failing systems making it not safe there for her. Helen was volunteering in the Hostel I was in whilst in Costa Rica, and we had a great chat over lunch where she explained some of the madness that is going on. Nicaragua was a great part of my journey with @JustThreeAmigos where we volunteered in schools, construction and local people, and it is a shame to see such a beautiful country in a bad way. It really does make me count my blessings more to have had the life I have had, and be able to go back to a safe and loving home. Please leave a review if you have a few minutes to spare as it really helps our ratings. E2: Travel Alone Even If You Are With Your Partner

Episode 2 of the More Than Backpacking Podcast is a great conversation with a Swiss couple who were worried that they were bored of travelling and needed to re-light the fire of their 'Trip'. We had a great conversation covering how travelling together can lead to too many of the same conversations and spending time apart even from your partner can help stimulate your desire to travel, and live. I believe it was a great conversation for them as they decided to book a flight and leave for the airport before breakfast the next day! If you can leave us a review it only takes 2 minutes and it really helps us and our ratings! E1: Volunteer Abroad in Costa Rica: Carlye Stevens, Ohio

E1: Volunteer Abroad in Costa Rica: Carlye Stevens, Ohio

Welcome to the FIRST EVER episode of the More Than Backpacking Podcast !!! Today’s episode is a conversation I had with Carlye Stevens, a 20 year old girl from Cleveland, Ohio. This happened Whilst I was volunteering in a hostel in Costa Rica, and Carlye came to sit at the reception desk whilst I was on duty! I didn’t know Carlye or anything about her apart from knowing she was from Cleveland and loved Lebron James and we actually had this conversation just before the Cavs lost the NBA finals in game 4 which she was not best pleased about! We learned a lot and Carlye was a great sport for the Podcast so Thank You to Carlye. Please give me some feedback, and help me out by leaving a review if you found it valuable and sharing it with someone or more than one who you think it will be valuable for them. Enjoy the show! P.S. Don't forget to follow @JustThreeAmigos to see our adventures travelling, volunteering & inspiring!
