Join us as host, Sandy Roberts, shares news and events from the Warren County Library System. In this episode, we’re talking about ways to hack your life to get through the often busy and stressful holiday season. Then we'll learn about a whole different type of hacking -- computer hacking!

We kick off the podcast with bestselling author and expert organizer Jamie Novak. She’ll share great ways to organize the holidays -- and your life -- so that you can spend more time with those you love. Then we’ll talk with Karen Tibbals, author of Persuade Don't Preach: Restoring Civility Across the Political Divide. With her research-based approach, anyone can bridge the divide and talk about difficult topics while being both respectful and honest. We’ll wrap up with BiaSciLab, a young hacker on a mission to encourage other girls and boys to learn computer programming so they can change the world. She’s going to be Keynote Speaker at the library’s Virtual Hackathon on December 12.

Welcome to More Than Books!

Join us as host, Sandy Roberts, shares news and events from the Warren County Library System. In this episode, we're thankful for our beautiful natural areas, local businesses, and American history. This episode may have been a bit delayed due to technical difficulties, but it is packed with great interviews.

Our guests for today are fantastic storytellers. We start with Len Rue Jr, a well-known, local naturalist and photographer. He shares his adventures traveling all over the world, gives great tips on exploring the Delaware Water Gap, and talks about the importance of the Lenni Lenape in our area. Then we feature Dave Andersen of Buttzville Brewing Company. He and his wife, Erin, are hosting an exciting virtual beer tasting with Invertase Brewing Company in Phillipsburg, NJ. Lastly, we have Kevin Wood, an Abraham Lincoln impersonator and historian. He'll be presenting an interesting talk on Lincoln and Thanksgiving where you'll learn how this holiday became nationally recognized.

In this episode, we feature some of the great programs provided through funding by the Warren County Cultural and Heritage Division of Land Preservation including theatrical productions, painting workshops, meditation and more.  We'll also learn more about our upcoming "Dream Big" family engineering day.

Our guests for today are KB Mercer, Managing Director of the Traveling Lantern Theater Company to tell us all about their upcoming family-friendly performances including "Sherlock Holmes Takes the Case" on November 16. Then meet Miriam Rosenberg of The School of Royal Yoga. She'll talk with us about using sound and vibration for meditation as part of her Singing Bowls workshop on November 10.

Join us as host, Sandy Roberts, shares news and events from the Warren County Library System. Today we'll explore all the exciting Halloween programs the library is hosting during these last few days of October. From masks making to make-up, escape rooms to virtual parties, there is something for everyone during this festive time of year!

Our guests for today include:

  • Stephen Davis, a professor from Centenary University who will be presenting a "Theatrical Make-up, Blood, Guts and Gore" workshop on October 21st at 7 pm. Davis provides professional tips and tricks for great Halloween makeup, shares how he came to love teaching theater, and explains why he believes the creative arts are important, especially right now,
  • Josh Batenhorst of Bright Star Touring Theater whose troupe will be performing "Tell-Tale Tales of Edgar Allan Poe" on Saturday, October 24. Batenhorst shares how their company adjusted to a world with a pandemic by using technology to continue its mission of bringing great storytelling to kids all over the country.
  • Laura Hoffman, the Founder and Director of NJ Ghost Hunters Society tells the story of how she came to be a ghosthunter and why it's so exciting. Be sure to register for her program, "Haunted New Jersey & Spiritualism" on October 27.

In our inaugural episode, we kick off with library highlights including new days we're open to the public, our new app, curbside pickup, and innovative programs like "Grab and Go" and "Beyond Books" that make it easier than ever to explore what the library offers. 

Then, we'll talk with our Children's Librarian, Lina Crowell, about our October Spooktacular Reading Challenge, taking place all month long. Also stopping by is local artisan and educator, Brad Koller. He'll share exciting details about his upcoming Wizard Wand and Walking Stick woodcarving programs. Before we wrap, we'll also discover exciting activities for World Space Week and thrilling events to celebrate Halloween.
