Emily Lynch shares on the nature of friendship. Dave Roberts then explores what the place of reputation is in becoming credible carriers of the message of Jesus is in a community.

We are not made to live, learn or go on the journey with God on our own. Jesus showed us patterns of friendship that ranged from one best friend to 72 core disciples and 120 that gathered to wait for His Spirit to be poured out. Caroline brings her wisdom to this important subject.

Ness Wilson is the Pioneer UK Leader. She visited us to film at the Community Garden as part of the preparation for the network conference in March '23. 5 other church expressions will be filmed for the conference, which will explore how we join in with the mission of God by creating community in the 'spaces and places' of our neighbourhoods. Prepare to have your thinking stretched.  

The Bible suggests that Jesus was active in the creation of the world. Ray reminds us that it all 'belongs to God" and then explores what that means for us in 2022. It is a very countercultural thought. Listen and discover why. 

What does it mean when we describe Jesus as our Redeemer? What did it mean for people to be bought back from those who kept them in slavery? How does this impact our understanding of what Jesus has done in our lives? Roland paints the scriptural picture for us. 

Esther explores the story of the woman with the issue of blood to help us understand that Jesus did not merely heal her through her act of touching the hem of his garment, but he also restored her very publically after years of social and spiritual isolation. Esther then helps us discern how this will help us understand our mission in the world today. 

My peace I leave with you was on Jesus lips 3 times in John 20. This is just one of the many times peace and prayer are connected in the life and ministry of Jesus. Peace is rooted in the word Shalom which has multiple layers of meaning including welfare, wholeness and calm and abundance. In this core teaching for us a congregation Dave Roberts notes that the gospel is rooted in the notion of the gospel of peace. Our forgiveness, flowing from Jesus death and resurrection, is the start of our embrace of the Kingdom of God and a belief in the restoration of all things. What do Jesus prayers of peace tell us about mission, prayer, justice and the relational nurture that God desires?

Jesus introduced new understandings of prayer but also drew deeply on the existing traditions of the ancient faith that honoured Yahweh. At the start of a new series Dave Roberts, part of our team and a prolific author on prayer, paints the picture of how Jesus prayed at home, in the wilderness and in the temple and synagogue. 

Ray Whitby looks at the gospel patterns that help us to understand poverty and the Christian response. Jesus talks often of the poor and takes practical steps to support them. 

Les and Judith lead us through an overview of key principles regarding Jesus as the personification of Justice and his desire to ensure justice for all. They note how this impacts our understanding of racism and remind us how justice finds expression through the local churh

If you need to know what God is like you look at Jesus. Jesus says that he does what he sees the Father doing. The prophet Isaiah says that God loves justice. So how would we anticipate that being demonstrated in the accounts of Jesus life. Dave Roberts introduces a new series on Jesus and Justice and suggests that their are rich veins of wisdom, compassion and embodied faith in all that we learn about Jesus and his grace towards women, children, people from other ethnic groups, the excluded and the poor. 

Jesus retreats several times in the Gospel accounts to pray alone. This often happened before major decisions or challenges. What can we learn from Jesus actions that will impact our lives today

The focus is on John 4:4 and Jesus willingness to go to Samaria with all risk to his reputation that might involve as he travels almost to the door of a competing temple and starts the mission that would go to the nations, through a woman. For the next 7 weeks we will look at the theme of Journeys in scripture. What did they mean then and what do they mean now for us as followers of Jesus. In this introduction Caroline Kimber sets the scene. 

In Ecclesiastical imagery and symbol, the ship is the picture of the pilgrim church on earth. The best ship example would be the Irish coracle, in which monks set out, letting the wind take them and wherever they landed, they spoke to the people about Jesus.

The church was never intended to be static, but to move according to the wind of the Holy Spirit. The church is founded on the sure foundations of Father, Son and Holy Spirit, revealed in scripture. However, each generation seeks to be authentic to those foundations in the circumstances it finds itself in.

The intention of looking at the topic of journeys is to encourage and inspire ourselves as individuals and community to respond to ‘such a time as this’.

In this first gathering of 2021 we look at what we might become in this new year. Dave Roberts introduces us to the different uses of the word become in scripture and explores maturity, community and being a disciple. He finishes with the promise that those who are becoming disciples will bring forth new treasures as well as old. What treasure can you bring?
