The Exorcist Believer's Unusual Take on Possession - Movie Review
(This Review Contains Spoilers) What's so unusual about The Exorcist Believer's take on demons, possession and exorcisms? This movie review podcast analyzes the movie's plot and source material as we share our reactions after our first time watching the film. The film pulled inspiration from some interesting sources such as the Dead Sea Scrolls and the Bible, but they (intentionally or not) based the logic of demon possession on a Bible misinterpretation. Does the soul of a possessed person really "go to hell" while a person's body is possessed? Did Jesus actually spend time in hell for 3 days as the movie states? Is the film even consistent with its own rules of demonic possession and will we recommend this film? Listen to find out! #5 - High Fidelity (2000): Discussing Spiritual Themes in Doug's Top 6 Favorite Movies
Hi Fidelity might be a surprising choice as a spiritual film, but if you look closely it actually contains deeply spiritual themes. He is a troubled character who, over the course of the film, slowly learns to overcome his own character flaws and relationship struggles. As he tries to figure out what it is about himself that pushes others away, he realizes he's actually attracted to women who aren't necessarily good for him. He'll wrestle with his own understanding of what love is and whether or not he's capable of loving others well, and even make some changes in his own life. Did you know The Matrix is jam-packed full of spiritual themes and Biblical ideas? Scattered throughout the film are the names of Biblical places and characters such as Trinity, Zion and more. There's even a prophecy about "The One," which is eerily similar to the prophecy within Judaism and Christianity about a Messiah. The original 1999 Matrix film introduced the concept of two worlds; one physical and one... spiritual? It depends on how you interpret it, but we had some fun discussing the spiritual parallels, some that were put intentionally into the film and others that may simply show a close similarity to a familiar concept. We compare Neo to Jesus, Agent Smith to Satan and his angels, and most interestingly, what the film says about how difficult it is for someone to change the way they see the world.
