Movies for Breakfast

By Movies for Breakfast

Movies for Breakfast is a candid discussion about all things current in the film world. Hosted by three friends nestled in different parts of the country, Anna Bryant, James Coreas and Trent Johnson pull up chairs to the breakfast table and hash out all their thoughts over coffee, grits and whatever other morning food you can conjure up in a tiny kitchen. Whether the discussions are smart or not is up for debate, but all hangups and praise comes from a passion for cinema.

Dark Phoenix and Brightburn

Dark Phoenix and Brightburn

Today we take a look at two stories based around the premise of super powered beings gone wrong (sort of). To help say goodbye to Fox's X-Men Series we brought on friend of the podcast Leopold Knopp (https://reelentropy.com/), who's long had an affinity for the mutant movies. He also stuck around and helped us talk about James Gunn's evil Superman horror flick, which could be opening up a cinematic universe of its own.

Venom

Yo what is up everybody, we are back this week with a quick review of Venom. Because of it's lack of substance, we do dive into some spoiler territory, so if you haven't seen it listen for the WARNING. Anyways, have a great week, we'll see you at the movies!

The Predator and Mandy

The Predator and Mandy

A late review is still a review, but since you've probably seen these movies, it's fair to say we sort of went into some spoiler territory anyways. We also recapped some news from the past few weeks, and dished on how James hurt the one and only Donald Glover. Thanks for listening, and enjoy!

Makeup Movie Reviews: Avengers: Infinity War and Mission Impossible: Fallout

Makeup Movie Reviews: Avengers: Infinity War and Mission Impossible: Fallout

Over the past few weeks, we discovered a dry spell for movies we could review. So instead of dragging ourselves to the theater to see films we were less than excited for, we decided to revisit some films we didn't cover on the podcast. Luckily for us, two of the biggest hits this summer were on that list, so this week, we decided to finally dig into Avengers: Infinity War and Mission Impossible: Fallout.

BlacKkKlansman and Crazy Rich Asians

BlacKkKlansman and Crazy Rich Asians

Check us out, we're uploading in a timely manner! This week we tackle two very different movies that represent more than their plot points. First, we discuss Spike Lee's BlacKkKlansman, a film about police officer Ron Stallworth, who goes undercover to topple a chapter of the KKK in Colorado Springs during the Civil Rights Movement of the 1970s. After, we discuss the wildly successful, and cheery, Crazy Rich Asians, which takes a pretty standard romantic comedy story with an almost entire Asian cast, offering a film Hollywood was long overdue for.

Eighth Grade

Eighth Grade

Yikes, with a busy schedule that makes editing tough and the general gamble of sending our audio files back in forth, this episode proved tough to produce. Even though it doesn't have the normal news, the MFB crew still came through with a solid movie review of Eighth Grade. Thanks for listening!

Ant-Man and the Wasp and Sorry To Bother You

Ant-Man and the Wasp and Sorry To Bother You

Once again, we apologize for the editing delay, we promise to get better at cranking these things out more efficiently. But, while we have your attention, this week we discussed the ever-changing Movie Pass terms of service and reviewed the slightly tedious Ant-Man and the Wasp and the wonderful Sorry To Bother You. Thanks for listening!

Sicario: Day of the Soldado

Woo, after a bit of a delay in editing we are back with a review Josh Brolin and Benicio Del Toro's follow up to 2015's "Sicario." Is it as good as the first one? Does it struggle to maintain the mystery of its predecessor? Tune into listen. Also we discuss a few interesting topics from the world of movies. Enjoy!

Ocean's 8 and Hereditary

Ocean's 8 and Hereditary

Our first podcast of June is a doozy, as we talk about the heavily (well, kind of?) Ocean's 8 and the critically acclaimed Hereditary. Before dishing on heists and horrors, we talked about Disney's attempt at drive-in dollars and the inevitable success of The Incredibles 2. Thanks for listening!

You Were Never Really Here and Tully

You Were Never Really Here and Tully

Wow, it's almost like the crew has been into intermittent fasting lately, because it feels like forever since we took a seat at the breakfast table and discussed some movies. Due to lost audio with our detailed review of the unstoppable machine that is Marvel's Infinity War, are return was delayed a week, and instead of regurgitating our thoughts on the billion dollar flick, we discussed movies lost in Thanos' large Titan shadow, in You Were Never Really Here and Tully. Both are small in scale, and both deal with traumatic subject matter. Enjoy!

Movies For Snack Time: The Meg Trailer and IT sequel casting

Movies For Snack Time: The Meg Trailer and IT sequel casting

Due to some unforeseen scheduling errors, the Movies For Breakfast podcast had to take an hiatus this week, however we know your movie metabolism won't stop kicking so James has you covered with a little snack. Instead of a discussion, James quickly runs through some of the news that caught his attention with a quick, short, poignant run down of what would surely make an old-timey newsreel.

Blockers and A Quiet Place

Blockers and A Quiet Place

Wow, you could not pick two more diametrically opposed movies to review in one podcast episode, but hey, we did! First we chatted about the slapstick comedy only critics seem to enjoy and highlight a certain actor-wrestler-buff guy who stole a ton of scenes. After discussing parenting in a sitcom, we discuss the decision making and themes of A Quiet Place. But before the reviews we talked some movie news including movie elitists looking down on the MCU, Alex Garland defending his adaptation and the state of 3-D. Thanks for listening!

Ready Player One and Isle Of Dogs

Ready Player One and Isle Of Dogs

Yo, what is up everybody! Today we sat down over some grocery bought sushi, waffles and even some theater-bought beers to discuss two movies garnering a ton of buzz: Ready Player One and Isle Of Dogs. We discuss the nostalgia of Steve Spielberg's latest blockbuster, but also acknowledge how sad the future must be if you're forced to look back 60-years for pop-culture. For Isle Of Dogs, we chatted about why Wes Anderson is receiving such heavy criticism, and whether the director needs to change with the tides. Tack on some movie news, and boom, you've got yourself a podcast. Thanks for listening!

Movies For Snack Time: Avengers Infinity War Trailer

In a special edition of the pod, James and Trent talk about the hype surrounding the latest "Avengers: Infinity War" trailer. The two also discuss where it stacks up with other trailers from Marvel's past films.

Thoroughbreds and Wrinkle In Time

Thoroughbreds and Wrinkle In Time

In the midst of Trent preparing for SXSW, the crew was able to sneak in a quick episode, complete with news chatter and, of course, reviews. This week we tackled the weird, homage-heavy Thoroughbreds and the somewhat lackluster, unless you're 8-years old, Wrinkle In Time. The ending this week is a bit abrupt, as we once again (LOL) encountered some audio troubles. Despite this, we just can't stop talking about movies with you guys. Thanks for listening!

Game Night and Annihilation

Game Night and Annihilation

After a tough few weeks with multiple technical difficulties and vacations, Anna, Trent and James are finally back at the breakfast table! Despite a slightly disjointed schedule, the three gathered to talk about Game Night and Annihilation (20:20). Before that, instead of the usual trailer talk, James and Trent chatted about some hot topics in movies, including Black Panther's Chinese debut, Snoke's backstory in Star Wars and Fred Durst (WTF). Be sure to check us out next week as we tackle Thoroughbreds and A Wrinkle In Time.

Phantom Thread and Jumanji

Phantom Thread and Jumanji

This week, Anna, James and Trent discuss some of the interweaving complexities of “Phantom Thread” while tackling whether or not the movie is enough of a send off for the great Daniel Day Lewis. We also touch on our favorite Paul Thomas Anderson film. After trading in our premium dresses for fatigues and athletic wear, we step into the jungle and discuss the surprisingly successful “Jumanji.” We talk the budding bromance of Kevin Hart and Dwayne Johnson, deem Jack Black a scene stealer and briefly touch on what a sequel will look like. Before movie reviews, we talk about what surprised us about the Oscar nominations and as always dive into some Trailer Talk.
