We're joined by our friends GRAHAM SKIPPER (Night School podcast) and C. ROBERT CARGILL (Doctor Strange, Sinister) to discuss Cargill's latest venture as co-writer/producer - THE BLACK PHONE. We'll be discussing it with the man who shaped it, as well as the films Graham and I believe inspired it (Cargill will be the judge). Plus, a brief recap of this year's Chattanooga Film Festival.

We're diving into the new Canadian horror film, THE RIGHTEOUS, and the films we believe inspired it, with horror maven MICHELLE SWOPE (Bloody Disgusting), and the film's writer, director, producer, and star - MARK O'BRIEN (Ready or Not, 61st Street). We also pay tribute to the late Ray Liotta. More gravy than your cinematic hearts can handle!

We're joined by longtime friend of the pod, CLARKE WOLFE from FearHQ, for a dive into two new 'dangerous kids' movies -the Norwegian chiller THE INNOCENTS and the Stephen King adaptation FIRESTARTER (2022), and the films we believe inspired them. We also pay tribute to the late John R. Cherry III and Fred Ward in a jam-packed bowl of gravy!

And we're joined for this 90-minute (that's a laugh) dive into his entire filmography by writer and producer BRYAN COGMAN, from GAME OF THRONES. It's a beautiful messy dive into one hell of an auteur. 

We go deep into the recesses of the CANDYMAN franchise - the original, the reimagining/spiritual sequel, and all those pesky sequels - with CALEB WARD, the VP of Acquisitions for Highland Film Group, formerly of Freestyle Digital Releasing. We also touch on Fantastic Fest, growing up in the South, and shitty emo and folk bands. And if you think we DON'T talk about gravy - what podcast are you even listening to?

We kick off Season 2 of the podcast with an in-depth discussion of AMERICANA FILMS with DAVID FEAR from ROLLING STONE and ADAM B. VARY from VARIETY. What does "Americana" mean? Episode 25. Being from the South, getting trapped in a silo is one of our worst nightmares! We're joined by MARYA E. GATES from MovieFone and RogertEbert.com to discuss the new indie thriller from Magnolia Pictures, SILO, and the films we believe inspired it; closed out with an interview with the film's producer, SAMUEL GOLDBERG.

Episode 24. The guest so nice he's joining us twice! For a discussion of the new vampire flick, JAKOB'S WIFE (and the films we believe inspired it), we're joined by former guest, CHRIS THOMAS DEVLIN, screenwriter of the upcoming horror film, "Cobweb", and the impending reboot/sequel "Texas Chainsaw Massacre"; closed out with a repost of our interview with the film's co-writer/director, TRAVIS STEVENS. 

Episode 23. It's Oscar time! We're dissecting the nominations for the 93rd Annual Academy Awards with CLAY KELLER from the SCREEN DRAFTS podcast, WILL MAVITY from NEXT BEST PICTURE, and JOANNA ROBINSON, head writer for VANITY FAIR. We'll be discussing what we believe WILL win, SHOULD win, and even some folks that got one hell of a snub (in our minds). 

Episode 22. We're diving into the classic quadrilogy from master filmmaker, Eric Rohmer, with ALONSO DURALDE from the LINOLEUM KNIFE and BREAKFAST ALL DAY podcasts. Recently remastered by the folks at Janus Films, we'll be discussing: A Tale of Springtime (1990), A Tale of Winter (1992), A Summer's Tale (1996), and Autumn Tale (1998). Do they hold up under a contemporary lens? Let's find out! Featuring an interview with TRAVIS STEVENS, the co-writer and director of the new horror film, JAKOB'S WIFE.

Episode 21. In this special episode, we tackle the OVERLOOKED PERFORMANCES OF 2020 with programmer and podcaster DREA CLARK, comedian and podcaster STEVE HERNANDEZ, and filmmaker JEREMY HERSH (The Surrogate). These are the performances that haven't received the awards season recognition they deserved, the ones that have gotten a little lost in the shuffle...until now.

Episode 20. The Queen Is Dead, Meat Is Murder, and we're joined by DARREN FRANICH from ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY to discuss the new Smiths-centric comedy/drama, SHOPLIFTERS OF THE WORLD, and the films we believe inspired it. Featuring an interview with STEPHEN KIJAK, the writer and director of the film.

Episode 19. The BFI FLARE FILM FESTIVAL ran March 17th-March 28th and featured the best LGBTQ content from around the globe. We're joined by UK freelance film critic SAM INGLIS (24 FPS UK) to discuss our individual Top 5 lists from the fest, and the themes and success of the festival overall. We're swimming from both sides of the pond to meet somewhere in the middle. Featuring an interview with JONATHAN WYSOCKI, the writer and director of the film, DRAMARAMA (discussed in the episode).

Episode 18. No, you're not dreaming - we're discussing the new horror film, COME TRUE, and the films we believe inspired it, with UK film critic LESLIE BYRON PITT from the Fatal Attractions and Hustlers of Culture podcasts; closed out with a little something we like to call "Southern Hospitality". We even take a mini deep dive into British cuisine. 

Episode 17. The SXSW Film Festival ran March 16th-20th and it was their first ever virtual-only festival. We're joined by freelance film critic ANDREW POPE (Whitlock & Pope) to discuss our individual Top 10 favorite films from the fest, and whether or not the SXSW platform worked as well online as it usually does on the streets of Austin. Featuring interviews with SXSW filmmakers MICKEY KEATING (Offseason) and ELLE CALLAHAN (Witch Hunt).

Episode 16. We're joined by horror maestro ELRIC KANE (Colors of the Dark, Pure Cinema podcasts) to run down the UNDERRATED HORROR FILMS OF THE 21ST CENTURY, i.e. films released between January 1, 2001 and Present Day. These are films that have not received the proper level of accolades and/or cultural indoctrination. What will we choose? What will we leave off? 

Episode 15. The 2021 Miami Film Festival ran March 5th-14th. We're joined by freelance film critic, Jamaica's own SHANE SLATER (Awards Radar), to discuss our favorite films from the festival, and whether or not their hybrid of in-person and virtual screenings was a success. SPOILER: It was.

Episode 13. In this special episode, we tackle the best documentary films from 2020 with filmmaker BRIAN BOLSTER, SUMMRE GARBER from the SLAMDANCE FILM FESTIVAL, and JENN WILSON from FILM INDEPENDENT. We're bringing our individual top ten lists to the party, and celebrating a banner year for films that inspired, educated, and entertained us across the board.
