How to get a career in AI (or anything)
My friend Shaik asked how to get a career in AI. There’s no exact answer to this but you can start with these two principles.

112 - What You Should Know Before Starting In The Gym
A few weeks ago I answered a question on Quora which asked: "What do I need to know before I go to the gym?" I started thinking about what I would tell myself if I went back into the past and spoke to pre-gym me. I came up with a half-dozen pieces of advice I thought would be most valuable. Episode challenge: Email me with a piece of advice you believe would be valuable for first-time gym goers. 111 - Sleep Your Way to Fat Loss
In this episode, I explore briefly how better sleep can lead to fat loss and 8 ways to sleep smarter. Notice, I didn't mention sleeping longer throughout the show. Quantity may not be as important as quality. 8 ways to improve sleep quality: 1. No caffeine after 2 p.m. 2. Minimal screen time at least 1 hour before bed (more is better). 3. Complete darkness in your bedroom, if it emits light, cover it. 4. Ensure magnesium intake is adequate (400mg for me, 320mg for women, daily). 5. Get more natural sunlight throughout the day. 6. Track your sleep and notice the trends. 7. Create a sleep ritual. 8. Can't sleep? Just go with it. Insomnia may be better for you than sleeping pills. Ray Dalio is the founder of Bridgewater Associates, one of the largest hedge funds in the world. His net worth is somewhere around $16 Billion. I recently finished reading his book Principles: Life and Work and it left an impact on me. My copy is loaded with highlights. In this episode, I share three of my favourite principles from the book but there could've easily been more. If you haven't seen or heard of Ray before, I'd encourage you to check him and his book out. If you're like me, you will learn something. 107 - Turning Have To Into Get To
Every morning I read a page of The Daily Stoic by Ryan Holiday and Stephen Hanselman. Each of the readings has some timeless life advice but every so often one really strikes a chord. That was the case with the passage I read today. It's such a simple concept I believe can have profound effects in day to day life. Instead of thinking of things as "have to's" consider them as "get to's". For example, instead of having to wash the dishes. Consider it as getting to wash the dishes because you had the opportunity to eat off them. Of course, this can relate to anything and everything but I think it's a simple trick to change the way we view things. I decided to try a new episode format! Five minutes of Fire Friday's 🔥 Let's see how long I can keep this up. The topic of this episode comes after a few days of thinking about how to balance instant satisfaction and long term gratification. It's a fine line in today's world, especially when you're being pulled a million different directions. There are so many opportunities out there, it's hard learning what to say no to. Here's the article I mentioned in the show: http://tcat.tc/2rjLvxq Episode challenge: Think about where you're experiencing short-term satisfaction in your life and how can you balance it with long term gratification. Perhaps the most important part of learning something new is enjoying what you're learning. It took me two years of failing courses at university to realise that. After I started studying something I enjoyed, my marks skyrocketed. I now apply this principle of enjoyment to everything I learn. I gave my first ever public speech when I was 11 years old in 2004. It was called "The Wacko Watch". It was a smart watch (that wasn't a term back then) that could do a whole bunch of cool things. I remember how scared I was getting up in front of a crowd. Those feelings are replicated every time I make a podcast/record a video on YouTube. I've just learned how to redirect them into a different kind of energy. In this episode, I talk about my experience making a podcast for 78 days and tell some stories about my experience public speaking. Day 77 - Finding The Right Medium
Over the past few weeks, I've been increasing the amount of media I've been putting out. This has been through podcasting, uploading videos to YouTube and writing on my blog. I'm using so many different outlets so I can find the best one for me. So far, I'm loving all three of them. Making a podcast or YouTube videos or writing blog posts was always something I would look at but thought I would never do. Now I'm doing all three. It's scary but it's so much fun. In this episode, I talk about my recently experience uploading to YouTube, sharing my work publicly and how I recently used the NASA trick to talk to some girls at the gym. I don't always have perfect lighting and someone around to take 100 photos of me to get the right one. Recently, I've been exploring new ways of being creative. Instagram is one of them. Fitness is a large part of my life but I'm not good at the business side of things. If I want to be a fitness entrepreneur, I've got a lot of work to do on the business side of things. In this episode, I talk about how I realised what one of my main weaknesses is and the feedback I gave myself from the previous video (see Day 73 for more). I filmed this episode! Check it out on YouTube if you feel like seeing my face. YouTube video link - (coming as soon as the video finishes uploading). Previous video link - same as above

Day 66 - The Intelligence Revolution
The industrial revolution enhanced our muscular capabilities. In my opinion, the increasing power of machine learning and advances in artificial intelligence will create the intelligence revolution. I read an article today discussing how machine learning algorithms were more specific when detecting melanomas in patients than doctors. Machines won't replace doctors anytime soon but they will aid them to make better decisions. In this episode, I discuss some key points from the article as well as my thoughts on what the intelligence revolution means for the world. Daily challenge: 20 minute walk with no tech. Just your thoughts. Thank you for listening!

I went over a book called the Top Five Regrets of the Dying by Bonnie Ware. Bonnie Ware was a palliative care nurse for 8 years. In this episode, I explore these themes and relate them to examples in my own life.

Day 52 - George Sourris: We'll Never Be Ready
I was over George's for dinner and preparing for our upcoming MIT bootcamp. I had come to the realisation over the past couple of days that no matter how much preparation we did, we would never be fully ready. That's okay, it's much the same with anything in life. We also had some fun towards the end with a freestyle rap battle. I got a headache from laughing so hard. It was a fun night. Thank you for listening.

Day 49 - 10 Ways Meditation Has Changed My Life
Meditation has changed my life in more ways than one but most of them come to one central theme. Focusing on the now. This whole podcast can be summed up in those four words. There's no more perfect time other than right now. In this episode, I talk about how meditation has changed my life over the past year. So far, I've done almost 300 sessions on the Headspace app and accumulated almost 70 hours of total meditation time. I don't recommend anything to anyone that I haven't tried, this is something I'm recommending. Take 10 minutes a day for yourself. You don't need an app, just sit and breathe. If you haven't got enough time for 10 minutes to yourself, you've got bigger problems to solve. Reach out to me about your own meditation practices, I'd love to hear about them!

Day 45 - The Dumbest In The Room
I recently signed up to course where I'm not ready for. It starts in a week from today. I'm going to be the dumbest person in the class. The past few days I've been thinking about asking for a refund. I realised that this is not the right option. I'm going to give it my best shot and surround myself with people who are much smarter than me. This is a great opportunity to grow. In this episode, I talk about the anxiety I've been feeling about the course and how I'm implementing the lessons I've learned from others to push me forwards. We go through him growing up in a small town to living in South Africa during the 70's. If there's anything I learned from this episode, it's that my Dad has lived an incredible life and has plenty of stories to show for it. I hope I'm like him when I grow up.
