Scott Floman (author of the amazon ebook The Story Of Rock and Soul Music: Album Reviews and Lists), twin brother Keith Floman, and their buddy Larry Waldman have joined forces to talk about music. The format of this podcast is a series of tournaments. Episodes 1-8, recorded with Scott's original partner Matthew Brennan, determined the best rock artist ('60s-'90s). Keith & Larry replaced Matt in Episode 14. Episodes 14-25 determined the best rock album ('60s-'90s). Episodes 26-35 determined the best rock album ('00s-'10s). Notes: It is probably noticeable anyway, but we want to mention that two separate parts of "Never Gonna Give You Up," "Sweet Child O' Mine," "Just Like Heaven," and "Schizophrenia" were grafted together for the clips we played.

Notes: Crowded House main man Neil Finn was actually from New Zealand but drummer Paul Hester and bassist Nick Seymour were from Australia.

A Rainy Night In Soho was originally on the Poguetry in Motion EP but was later added to the reissue of Rum Sodomy & The Lash.

It is probably noticeable anyway, but we want to mention that two separate parts of "There Is A Light That Never Goes Out" "Angel Of Death," "Fight For Your Right," and "Dear God" were grafted together for the clips we played.

Note: A big reason why Hüsker Dü was able to release two great albums in 1985 was because they had two great songwriters. We should've talked about Grant Hart as well as Bob Mould.

It is probably noticeable anyway, but we want to mention that two separate parts of "Running Up That Hill," "In Between Days," "Primitive Painters," and "She Sells Sanctuary" were grafted together for the clips we played.

Notes: Madonna's Like A Virgin, Bryan Adams' Reckless, and Wham!'s Make It Big were in fact #1 U.S. albums, but they did not hit #1 until 1985.

Scott mistakenly attributed The Ataris' cover of "The Boys Of Summer" to Atari Teenage Riot.

Notes: The great Golden Earring album from 1973 is called Moontan. Also, we discussed the song "The Boiler" in this episode, but caution is advised if you do decide to check it out because it's extremely disturbing.

Notes: The third song in the Billboard year-end top 25 that Larry thought we might draft was Brown Eyed Girl by Van Morrison. And S.F. Sorrow by The Pretty Things was the first rock opera (released in 1968).

Notes: There's a word in "Oliver's Army" that's offensive. But, context and intent are important, so here's Elvis in own words: "If I wrote that song today, maybe I'd think twice about it. That's what my grandfather was called in the British army – it's historically a fact – but people hear that word, go off like a bell, and accuse me of something that I didn't intend." Also, Michael Jackson did have some notable successes between "Ben" and "Don't Stop 'Til You Get Enough" both with and without his brothers, including "Dancing Machine," "I am Love," "Just a Little Bit Of You," "Blame It On The Boogie," and "Shake Your Body (Down To The Ground)."

Notes: The song Scott thought Keith and/or Larry would pick that they didn't was "So Lonely" by The Police. Also, Jimmy Iovine didn't produce Darkness on the Edge of Town but he did work on the album as an engineer.

Notes: The book we referenced, 31 Songs, is also called Songbook and was written by Nick Hornby (who also wrote High Fidelity). To be clear, Tom Verlaine not Richard Lloyd was Patti Smith's ex-boyfriend, and her "thousand bluebirds screaming" description was primarily in reference to Verlaine's playing.

Notes/Corrections: Stevie Wonder's car crash occurred three days after Innervisions was released.

Scott mentioned Peter Banks (ex-Yes) when he meant to refer to Tony Banks.

Notes/Corrections: The Leonard Cohen quote from Nirvana should've been "eternally," not "in eternity" (which Scott knew but said incorrectly for some reason). Also we had some major technical difficulties which is why Scott sounds so different towards the end of the episode, he had to switch from his PC to his phone.

Note: We're well aware that most people would have drafted John Lennon's "Imagine," but though we all feel like it's a beautiful song, and we acknowledge its classic status, we simply love the songs we picked a little bit more.

Corrections: Chris Farley not John Candy was in "Tommy Boy." And Jon-Eric Hexum was in "The Bear" not "B.J. and the Bear." And "I Want You Back" was Pitchfork's second best song of the 1960s (not the best).
