Why Don’t You Like Sales People?

Why Don’t You Like Sales People?

Why Don’t You Like Sales People?

Why do we dread it? The people are totally annoying.

  • My biggest annoyance (outside of having to talk to them at all): asking me for the ‘bottom line’.
  • Dylan’s: What can we do to get you to buy this today?
  • They share misinformation. Ugh! If you don’t know, then say you don’t know. They are trying to impress you, but if it’s inaccurate…just no. Don’t make stuff up to make yourself sound amazing.

Sure, we could keep bashing salespeople, but that’s not the point here and we actually don’t do that and like to keep it positive.

In the simplest term, they are simply in a position where they are directed to sell a product.

Does Consistency Matter?

Does Consistency Matter?

This brings us to consistency. It took a long time for Dylan to get where he is today and he almost quit. He consistently put out content and it was sustaining, but it wasn't growing. So many people quit when they are so close to success.

Our content lately has been a direct result of what we are currently experiencing in our business. Time Management and Organization has been key as we've navigated the way business scales up when one platform grows and it allows your business to grow in other areas.

Document the Journey

Document the Journey

Today we’re going to be talking about:

  • The New Year
  • Personal Growth
  • Documenting the Journey

It’s a new year and a new decade!

So, thinking about the 2020’s: What did you think this would be like when you were a kid?

Who are you Competing with?

Who are you Competing with?

We’re going to talk about a few things:

  • What’s in our gear bag?
  • Reflecting on 2019
  • Who are you competing with?

Stay Focused

Stay Focused

Ah, focus and prioritizing. Two topics that folks (or just me) need to talk about and address regularly.

A way to organize your thoughts better. Have you ever thought about that? Everyone has random, crazy thoughts at all hours of the day and night, right? No? That’s weird. You know you need to be productive, you ‘feel’ busy and overwhelmed, but do you really know where your time is going? Do you want to miss appointments or deadlines?

New Years Resolutions are Dumb

New Years Resolutions are Dumb

I cannot believe that this is Episode Four, y’all. Perfect timing for what we want to talk about today too (creating new habits, etc). We want to talk about things that we’ve done in 2019 and what we are doing in 2020. What are you doing in 2020?

We’re talking about your habits, mentality, and aspirations because we are not talking about New Year’s Resolutions.

Let’s talk about why we’re not talking about New Year’s Resolutions first and why Dylan thinks they are dumb.

The Best Way to Know your Ideal Customer

The Best Way to Know your Ideal Customer

Understanding what kind of consumer you are can equate directly to your business and attracting your customers.

  • Projection – energy that you are putting out, placing your feelings on another person
  • Law of Attraction – attracting what you focus on (this is where the similar traits are super important)
  • Mirroring – what you see or experience is a reflection of yourself

Bottom line, the things you see/perceive in others simply a reflection of yourself including shortcomings and traits.

What Does it Really Mean to Shop Locally?

What Does it Really Mean to Shop Locally?

Which brings up a great topic…Black Friday. Who knew this was such a controversial topic? Memes flying encouraging us to not support Amazon because Jeff Bezos has enough money. Seriously?! Do you shop big box stores and Amazon? Or do you just shop local.

Here’s the thing, you cannot always shop local. Dylan needed to buy a new computer and he purchases it at Best Buy, which is a big box store. What defines a local business though? TWhat Does It Really Mean to Shop Locally?his is a business local to us and hires local people in the community and all of this supports our local economy.

Dylan and I both run our own businesses and do not have a store-front, but are we a local business? Supporting our businesses supports our local economy because it’s where we pay taxes and spend our money.

Interesting topic, right?! I’d love to hear your opinion on this.

Why Instagram Hiding Likes Could be a GOOD Thing

Why Instagram Hiding Likes Could be a GOOD Thing

Instagram is pulling likes. It’s an experiment of not showing likes to our audiences. This has been a bit polarizing. I can understand why some may be upset since it takes away the status that someone has achieved.

Are they doing it for mental health? The likes going away keeps people honest. Are you resonating with the content or are you following along because others are (aka peer pressure)? Likes can give things a level of credibility, but are people using this for clickbait? This shift should give smaller creators a chance to be seen and heard more.

This may also encourage people to create good content. People are going to post what they like and will encourage you to stay in your own lane and focus because you won’t know what others are doing.

What do you do when you are feeling stuck?

What do you do when you are feeling stuck?

In this episode, we discuss a personal development topic of courage and vulnerability thanks to watching the Netflix special with Brené Brown: The Call to Courage.

The main topic discussed: What do you do when you are feeling stuck?

This can feel like many things to people, but we chat about what it feels like to us, what we do when we feel like this, and why it's important to:

  • feel those feelings
  • visualize the result you want
  • check your resources
  • get into action

What Determines if you Support a Local Business or Shop Online?

What Determines if you Support a Local Business or Shop Online?

The struggles of recording an episode on one day and releasing it on another. We decided that we will release the podcast weekly on Wednesdays. So now you have something to look forward to :)

2:44 'All the things all the time'
This is one of those phrases that you've heard Dylan use if you've worked with him and discussed social media at all.

3:30 Patreon Only Podcast y'all for Dylan Talks Tone

4:39 Goal is to engage folks with our content - that's the conversation we're creating. It's why we're on social media, online, creating videos, creating podcasts, and etc.

5:17 Podcasts are a great way to be honest and vulnerable to have the conversations that you may not have the venue to share otherwise. Dylan would not talk purely technical with you if you were to just sit down and have a conversation. Well, let's be real here...it may depend on who you are :)

6:42 Time is the number one excuse that many people give for not starting on whatever it is that inspires them. Maybe they want to have a side hustle or maybe they want to start their own business, but so many folks think they do not have time. Truth is you make the time for what you really want. No Time is not a 'reason', but perhaps an excuse.

10:30 I have a full-time job - maybe we don't mention that enough.

11:10 Dylan Challenge - Go through all your little monthly charges and subscriptions and decide if you are still using or need them anymore.

12:05 If you have time to watch Netflix - you have time :)

13:44 Background noise. Do you require background noise to be productive or do you like it really quiet?

14:30 We have lives too, but we make our 'work' part of life.

15:38 Random: Do you have a step tracker? Do you make your goal daily?

18:35 The time will pass anyway - how are you using that time?

18:53 Here are the links again if you'd like to take a look:

No Time

How to Put First Things First

19:04 Main Topic - What determines whether you support a local business or shop online? We want to hear your feedback.

Facebook Post

21:31 People were mostly concerned with: Price, Availability, and Customer Service

22:04 Some are looking for human interaction - but the customer service and customer experience is key to this interaction.

22:45 Some people need to see and touch the tangible product - but having the option to purchase online is powerful.

26:50 Do you like to be sold to or to be educated?

27:45 Big businesses do this well as well, so do not think this customer experience is limited to small, entrepreneurial, or local businesses.

Resetting a Room and Why you Should do it Every Day

Resetting a Room and Why you Should do it Every Day

Inspiring you to do...whatever it is that you do...

I don't know, it's what we do, but maybe not so catchy. We need a tagline y'all!

Whether it's business, personal development, hobby, etc...do something, not just talk about it.

2:06 Follow-up on the book that I'm reading, Atomic Habits.

This is a great read and bringing a group of folks that you really care about and know to discuss is really powerful in hearing the different takeaways.

3:20 1st takeaway - The best is the enemy of the good.

Y'all, Dylan always says 'Done is better than perfect' when he's inspiring others
The best is a moving target. Keep moving and growing towards it.

6:30 2nd takeaway - Preparation is procrastination.

Being prepared is a good thing, but we can overdo it or get lost in it. Dylan prepares far less than me, but I will get lost in research and do nothing, so there is a delicate balance.

8:13 Post Production Editing

We don't. We are so one-take folks. When you start with live video, it's just what you do.

9:45 Dylan's personal goal is to be more concise. Using fewer words and just doing it.

11:15 3rd takeaway - Resetting the room

I love this idea of getting a room back to 'start' so that it's ready the next time you're going to use it. It's a mindset thing as well. No one wants to go backward and have to start with cleaning or the junk from yesterday. How much more productive we could be if we can just do what we're ready to do.

17:36 Why personal development?

I first heard about personal development when I started my business in 2013. I thought it was a crazy idea. My business was the catalyst for knowing that I needed personal development though. It starts as self-discovery anyway - limiting beliefs, doubts, excuses, fear, etc.

20:00 You can give people THE tips - maybe 5 things to jumpstart your business, but people fail because they haven't worked on any personal development and they have reasons for not doing so - which would help them to know that they were making excuses.

21:26 People don't know they are making an excuse - they think they have a 'reason', but they are really making an excuse.

22:25 Storytime - Real life personal growth y'all! How would you have handled this situation? Your focus and energy and how you choose to use it is powerful.

22:43 The honey-do version of my personal development and ideas of where you can get your personal development.

29:04 People give away a lot of information away because people are not going to implement. We do hope to inspire you - we tend to believe in people before they can believe in themselves.

30:15 Make someday today. Get it off the list or the whiteboard - do it.

Remember preparation is procrastination.

What are you inspired to do or what have you been putting off?

Tell us! We want to hear from you.

Dream big y'all!

New Podcast!

New Podcast!

It was time. We started a podcast!

A podcast is something that we've wanted to do together for a long time. We could never quite nail down what we wanted it to be about. We literally overthink things and wonder what the heck we could actually talk about regularly.

I had a podcast for a short while. A total of ten episodes of The Introverted Vegan. It was just me. Things I wanted to say, ideas I wanted to share, but the name seemed to make people believe they needed to be introverted and/or vegan and it became a mental struggle for me. A technicality with my podcast server canceled that on its own. The next episode was going to be introducing Dylan and bringing him onto the podcast regularly, but we decided to launch this one instead.

Feel free to leave us some feedback or questions :)

Music and Mascara is our parent company and the hub of what we do, so it just makes sense. This is Episode One and is probably the most unprepared content we've thrown together, but we felt this inspired to just do it.

If you're interested in learning about us individually, check out what Dylan does here and what Leslie does here.

Also, we referenced a couple of books that I said I'd share:

Atomic Habits: An Easy & Proven Way to Build Good Habits & Break Bad Ones

Start with Why: How Great Leaders Inspire Everyone to Take Action

We want to share us, have conversations, discuss topics, share knowledge, have fun, be casual, be vulnerable, etc. We are busy, we are married, we are always together, we do really like each other, and we are really this good together. Our goal is to inspire you. You can do it, you are worth it, and it is doable. A podcast is just a super fun, casual way to connect with you.

Maybe you're not interested in business, but it's a great way to get to know us better and we hope that it's an easy listen for anyone.

Don't forget, my passion is personal development, so it will be a common topic as well.

Dream big y'all!
