Definitions of Growth and Fixed Mindset
A growth mindset is simply the belief that our basic abilities can be developed and improved through dedication and hard work. A growth mindset creates a constant state of improvement, expanding and honing all out inherent talents and gifts, as well as adding to and improving new ones we already have.

Fixed mindset is a mindset that assumes abilities and talents are given, limited and have limited to no improvement. This person believes they were born with certain qualities, both positive and negative, and that these qualities are mostly fixed throughout life.

Advantages of Growth Mindset
Those with a growth mindset are more likely to
- embrace challenges
- use feedback
- learn from failures and mistakes rather than dwell on them
- value learning new things
- accept challenges
- persist
- be driven to achieve their goals
- be more creative because they are more likely to persistently pursue solutions
- focus on bettering oneself rather than protecting oneself
- not feel threatened by the intelligence and success of others. Instead, they will be more likely to admire others, learn from them and find inspiration in their successes.

It generally contributes to a fuller, more meaningful life.

Key Differences Between “Fixed” and “Growth” Mindset
1. Effort

- Discouraging
- Questions you
- Avoids learning and think you already know it all

Growth
- Optimistic
- Hopeful
- Encouraging

2. Challenge
Fixed
- Makes you give up
- Makes you think it’s a sign that it’s not for you
- Doesn’t bother with challenges because they think skills are set in stone

Growth
- Exciting
- Opportunity to grow
- Opportunity to learn
- Makes you reach new heights


3. Mistakes and Feedback

- Doesn’t like negative criticism/Denial
- Doesn’t change
- Doesn’t feel hopeful

Growth
- Learns from mistakes

- Becomes wiser

10 Practical Steps To Develop A Growth Mindset
1. Pay attention your words and thoughts

Part of personal growth is about having beliefs to support your best life. This got me thinking about those emotional baggages we carry with us and how we need to let them go to live our best lives. Those inner emotional baggages create messes in our lives, relationships and work places. This episode is about decluttering them so we can grow.

Decluttering happens in 3 steps:
1. Awareness - We need to be aware that we even have emotional baggages, and try to understand where they came from.
2. Organize - After awareness, we now decide when to address these baggages once and for all.
3. Clear out - Finally, we let them go. Not all baggages need to be addressed later, some need to be thrown out and even avoided in the first place.
