Making Meaning
In this episode, I discuss the art-making process, how fragile it is, especially for emerging artists who are still building up their creative confidence, and how focusing on making meaning isn't necessarily the best way to make an impact with a piece of art. Curious Connection with Sean Stockman
Sean Stockman is one of my favorite people to kick around. From our time together in karate classes to collaborating and networking on a professional level, Sean and I have formed a great friendship. He is passionate about personal growth and professional development, serving and leading others, and changing the way people approach difficult subjects like financial planning and budgeting. His energy and excitement are infectious, and he has so much knowledge, experience and wisdom to share at the same time as he's intentionally opening himself up to new opportunities to learn and grow in new ways. Enjoy the interview, and connect with Sean locally in the Milwaukee area at his Roundtable event or virtually on LinkedIn or inside The Idea Collective. Body Image
If I ask you to talk about your body image, what emotions come up? When I asked this question on social media, the responses were about what I expected based on my experience with people, including my own self. Most people have some more negative emotions when they think about their bodies, some were neutral and less than half shared positive feelings. This episode is about body image and about how we choose to put ourselves on display to the world. It's Not About the Dance
The activities we choose to do and the images of ourselves that we choose to put on display to the world aren't always about what they seem to be about. Dancing on TikTok isn't just about dancing. There are layers to it. This episode talks about curating our online identities and seeking authentic connection. It's not about the dance. Or maybe it is. And there's usually more to it than that. The Gift of Receiving
Many of us have been so caught up in the desire to give others what we have--knowledge, products, services--that we have undervalued the  importance of receiving. Giving and receiving is about flow. If we are constantly pouring out without allowing ourselves to be filled, we become empty, and giving becomes a burden at best, meaningless at worst. When someone else is offering you a heartfelt gift, the best way to give back to that person is to receive it well. Please support, share and subscribe. Awareness
Every intentional change MUST begin with awareness. We can't move anywhere without a starting point. Knowing where we are helps us determine the most appropriate direction to go. What People Think
What other people think of me is none of my business. Unless it is. In this episode, I unpack how we tend to obsess about what other people think of us. I'll talk about my experience and whose opinions really matter.  Romans 12:18 “If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone.” Not just live at peace with everyone, but if it is possible, and as far as it depends on you. Not everyone is ready to live at peace. Living at peace with everyone is not always possible. Feedback is important, but we shouldn't let the fear of negative feedback stop us from speaking up or going after what we know is best for us. Thanks for listening! Setbacks
What happens when you are all in on your goals and dreams and hit a wall? What happens when you fall? When you fail? I had some setbacks last week, and in this episode I get into how these things are often better teachers than success can be, and how to navigate through the failures to get back on track.  Don't forget to like, share and subscribe: https://anchor.fm/mymartialartsncrafts patreon.com/mymartialartsncrafts And follow on the socials: instagram.com/mymartialartsncrafts facebook.com/mymartialartsncrafts My website: mymartialartsncrafts.com

There is no Try
It recently hit me just how wise some old Jedi master from a long time ago really was. I was talking to my son about his goals and how best to achieve them. When he said he would "try" changing his behavior, I knew in that moment how much of a trap "try" can be. Because I've been caught in it, myself. When I change my language, I change my attitude; when I change my attitude, I change my behavior; when I change my behavior, I change my life. It's as simple and as difficult as that. Trigger warning: I do talk about choices having to do with childbirth and breastfeeding in this episode. My observations are based on my experience, and my intention is to offer an example in support of my opinion around the language we choose to use in different life situations. I hope you hear no judgment, because I trust you to make your own decisions in your life based on your own knowledge, support and circumstances. The point is to get curious about how our language shapes our thoughts, feelings and commitment to what we say or think we really want. Dress Person
A story about fashion, but not really about fashion. I share my journey of dressing my body, making certain choices about how I present myself to the world, what made me embrace and question these choices, and how I stepped into the power and freedom of being able to let go of old stories (and old selves) to step fully committed into something new. So this really isn't a story about fashion at all. It's a story about identity and how powerful the mind can be. Comfortable
This episode is a recording from a video I made in August 2019. The subject was getting comfortable with the uncomfortable. I think I had some good points to make back then, so I wanted to share it again on this new platform of mine. Hopefully you'll get something out of it, because I think this lesson is a great one for 2020, too, as we leave it behind to face whatever's next. Handmade Holidays
What do you make for Christmas? Do you make gifts? Handmade gifts don't have to cost a lot. And they are often much more precious than the things you can buy. In this short holiday episode, I discuss one of my most memorable Christmas giving experiences and how making something special for someone can impact both the giver and the receiver in some beautiful, expansive (not expensive!) ways.

Selling Art
In this episode, I'll talk about some of my experience as a "white belt" creative professional. I've created a lot, just because of the need to create, and recently I've begun to sell some of my work. I'm new to this end of things, so I discuss what I've got going on, and where it might take me. I will always emphasize, however, the importance of being creative for creativity's sake. I advocate for pursuing your artistic passions because there really is no other option if you're going to live a fulfilled life. Even if you never make a dime from your art or crafts, keep doing it. And share it somehow, because art is magic.

On Purpose
As we move into our winter hibernation, let's ask ourselves what our purpose is here in this life. I've been sitting with this question, personally and professionally, wondering how my values support and help to define my larger purpose. Have you ever taken the time to define your purpose? How does it show up for you? Are you living your purpose, or have you wandered? No judgement, just an invitation to explore who we are and try on different values together.

November
If you have a hard time with November every year, you're not alone. This year, we may be facing more severe issues in our communities than other years, but even in Novembers past, I've always experienced dark feelings that go way beyond a general malaise. In this episode, I'm exploring the root of my animosity toward the worst month of the year (when we're supposed to be the most grateful, no less, and maybe the fact that November just sucks is all the more reason to practice gratitude here). I'll also go into what I've been doing in recent Novembers to make sure I keep seeking and spreading Light with the intention of helping others do the same.

Courage
Having courage doesn't mean I'm not afraid. It means that I have a healthy fear of the unknown or uncomfortable and step into and through it because I know the rewards are going to be worth the risk. Join me as I explore fear and courage, tell a couple of personal stories, quote the Bible, Dune and my own vulnerable inner monologue as I stumble my way through the fear and technological learning curve of my first real podcast episode.

Introduction Episode
Welcome to Martial Arts & Crafts. This introduction is intended to get me a little practice talking about myself and my experience, give you some background about who I am and what I'm doing here, and offer a brief overview of what kinds of topics I'll be covering beyond the obvious martial arts and arts and crafts.
