#069: "No Code" for Beginners - Part 2 (The Tools)

Today, Seth and I discuss a hot topic - what tools should beginner NoCoders use for various projects. There is a lot of content on this, but the hundreds of options can seem daunting. We try to simplify this by providing our Top 3 for each use-case (e.g., Website builders, web app builders, mobile apps, etc.). In addition, we talk about the mindset beginner NoCoders need to have when starting out, and what learning / community resources are available to them. This episode includes Part 2 of our discussion. If you haven't already, make sure to check out Part 1 (#068).

My guest on the show today is Kelly Claus. Kelly is a professional Visual Developer, a Bubble bootcamp instructor, and founder of Rote, a Bubble app that streamlines the grant writing process. Prior to discovering NoCode, she was a Freelance Web Designer for several years, a career that emerged unexpectedly from a long and grueling tenure as Operations Director for a tiny nonprofit.  This combination of design skills and systems brain aligned with the recent emergence of no-code platforms like Bubble have allowed Kelly to build things that would have been impossible just a few years ago, including the career that she now enjoys!

Kelly is an alumni of OnDeck's NoCode Fellowship where she still runs a weekly Bubble learning session for other fellows. She's also been traveling full time for six years!

We get into every single one of those aspects of her life and career and i'm sure you guys will enjoy this episode! Here's my conversation with Kelly Claus.

#058: Women in NoCode - Part 2 of 2 #Short

#058: Women in NoCode - Part 2 of 2 #Short

Today, Seth and I talk about women in no-code. This is Part 2 of a two-part conversation where we discuss the existing issues with gender parity and Women in Tech. We also talk about how NoCode is empowering people in general and women in particular to break free and create new products and get their name out there. And finally, we highlight a list of women. That are doing some really great things in no-code.

And I say this at the beginning of the podcast. The irony of the fact that two men are talking about women and no code is not lost on me. The idea here is not to talk about something new that we're uniquely positioned to present. But it's more to just bring up the existing issues that we see and highlight some people who have been doing great work in the midst of all these challenges.

If you haven't checked out Part 1 yet, definitely listen to that first to get some additional context!

#053: NoCode Dashboards w/Mariano Guerra

Today’s episode is with the co-founder of Instadeq, Mariano Guerra. Mariano has a long career in tech and research, and he brings his experience to bear in this conversation, and with his product Instadeq.

The interesting thing is how Mariano and I got introduced. If you’ve been listening to the podcast for a while, you know that Seth and I recently published a 5-part NoCode History lesson series. In the first episode, we referenced a book published in 1982 that talked about the need to enable software development without programming. Mariano, a listener of the pod immediately wrote to me saying he found something from the 1950s that referenced an abstraction concept similar to how NoCode abstracts layers from software development - really cool stuff!!

I think you’re really going to enjoy this one. Here’s my conversation with Mariano.

#033 - Building a Composable Web w/Clarke, Jane and Jeff from The.com

Imagine a world where your website is just one giant spreadsheet without borders and each element is a cell. And if you’re a consultancy or agency, you could give your customers edit rights to individual cells. That, in essence is the.com which first-off great name, but more importantly is a REALLY unique perspective to solving an age-old problem.

Today, I speak with Clarke and Jeff McKinnon (brothers and co-founders) and Jane Sorkin who is their Community Lead. Their 20-person team is building the reusable web, making it simple to create, remix, and launch websites while getting paid and earning credit for your work. They call this a “composable” web and we get into what all of that means.

I think you’re going to get a ton out of our discussion in which we cover their origin story, current use-cases and where they’re going in 2022!

#032: The Importance of Showing Up #Shorts

#032: The Importance of Showing Up #Shorts

Did you know there’s a strong correlation between showing up consistently and success? Depending on which version of the Woody Allen quote you’re reading that correlation is anywhere between 80%-90%. To get access to opportunity, you’ve got to have knocked at its door in the first place.

Today, we will explore what showing up means, why it matters and how you can be conscious about it.

#031: Freelancing and Automation w/Michael Pichardo

My guest on the show today is Michael Pichardo. As someone that worked  at a billion dollar tech company and then proceeded to moonlight on the side, and finally is now doing freelance work on his own in the automation space, Michael has really walked the walk!

Today we discuss all about automation and more importantly Michael tells us what mindset you need to have to be successful as a freelancer. I think a lot of folks are going to take a ton out of this episode!

#030: Why Focusing on the Details is a SuperPower #Short

#030: Why Focusing on the Details is a SuperPower #Short

Maybe you founded a startup or maybe you are a specialist and educator in the NoCode space, or perhaps you're trying to pick up No-Code tools with a view to create a company in the future.

Whatever the case may be, there will come a time (and it probably has already happened to you) where your decisions will impact people beyond yourself. This is where details could make all the difference.

Today, I'll share a few thoughts on what it means to be detail-oriented, why this is a skill worth cultivating, and how to go about building the "Detail" muscle.

#029 - A Magic Link to Improve Authentication w/Sean Li

#029 - A Magic Link to Improve Authentication w/Sean Li

Authentication for Web3. That’s the topic we’re discussing today with the Sean Li, the founder of Magic. I was immediately taken by Sean’s humility and the way he outlined his journey all the way from his early days playing jazz to his 3 person startup getting acquired Docker and finally how he came up with the idea for Magic. We talk specifically about the differences in identity going from Web 2 to Web 3,  and how NoCode intersects with the Decentralized web. I think you’re going to really enjoy this deeply personal and impactful conversation with Sean. Let’s get to it!

#027: Creative Fundraising for your Small Business w/JP and Laurits

#027: Creative Fundraising for your Small Business w/JP and Laurits

Alright. Today, I’d like to share a really creative way for small business owners (including those online buisnesses of course!) to raise funds without relinquishing control of their business. Yes! A system for partial exits where vetted companies are able to raise funds from vetted investors. And who does all this vetting? It’s a company called Bits for Digits!

I had a chance to sit down with Jan Peters and Laurits, founders of Bits for Digits, and talk about this unique concept! Refreshing is the word I’d use to describe how it felt talking to them! They’re using their previous career experience in fintech with the likes of Google, Facebook and Blackrock to help founders of small businesses - and here’s the kicker: their webapp is built with 100% NoCode tools. You’re gonna want to hang onto every word of this story.

Are you ready? Let’s get into it!

#026: A simple and massively effective app builder for the masses by JotForm w/Art

Have you used an online form builder? For most people, a form builder was the first drag-and-drop tool they picked up, without even calling it a NoCode tool. And for hundreds of thousands of people, that tool was JotForm. Built as a bootstrapped business from Day 1, JotForm has grown to over 300 employees organically, and along the way become a household name for anyone that does something on the web.

Recently, they've been making the headlines with their latest product - JotForm Apps, a NoCode app builder for the masses. I sit down with Arthur West from JotForm to talk all about how JotForm Apps was built, who should use it and what differentiates it from other solutions in the market. Specifically we also dig into why JotForm apps makes it easy for any offline business to have an online presence.
