No H8ers, this title doesn't reference me/ this podcast, nice try! I open the show with a bit about going to see The Lighthouse last night, but otherwise this is just a review of the Netflix movie I AM MOTHER
November 13, 2019
That title sounds like this might be something smart. But I'm sorry it's just a review of Toy Story 4 + me bitching about how crappy my local movie theater is run.
November 12, 2019
I have a new side kick: rock me, Googilia. Topics include: Disney+ and the coming streaming wars death toll, haircut anxiety, bowling alley sweats pants men, sharing extra cupcakes with strangers, and various other bits and threads and otherwise unlistenable content. It's the MMDTPP! In all it's overlong, poorly recorded with a Huawei phone glory.

The reboot continues and now it would be a good idea to get onboard don't even worry about the previous episodes if you like or you know you do you. This long-ass eppy on a Ho1y Monday covers the following topix among other nonsense: driving etiquette, my Toy Story 4 movie experience, praise for my daughter, etc etc – it's a classic MMDTHP (monday morning drive time hodge pod) ...always different, always the same. The best compliment i can give this is that i've basically wanted to rewatch it ever since I finished it late last week. Run. Don't walk. A criminally underrated/underappreciated entry in the 2019 American Film Canon.

Ep. 641: Movie Review 190 – Support the Girls (2018)
The godfather of mumblecore makes you an offer you can't refuse in the form of this mainstream comedy with just a touch of mumblecore ("i guess this is growing up" -blink) - No but seriously this film was chugging along at like the grade of a solid mid-range 7 but the climax is such a mess I had to grade it a lowish 6 :| I still recommend it but definitely feels like wasted potential...  This podcast is a proud presentation of industries. Some more background about the clips at the beginning that feature this guy: after compiling the three short clips, I became even more annoyed by this dude. Just wanted to stress that the anti anti-intellectual stance he is going all out for is NOT what I'm all about folks. I'm for the people. Ep. 637: Movie Review 188 – The Witch (2016)
After much debate, I've decided to revert from the thinking I explored on this episode, and use the U.S. release date as the official year for all movies in my Movie Review database{, starting with this one (2016, vs 2015) – so this means I have to go back and double-check all 220+ films LoL (nah jk - I don't really care that much).. as for this movie, it's a real spook fesT anda  dam fine 1 at that. Ep. 635: A dramatic reading of the Wikipedia plot synopsis for Avengers: Endgame
As a nerd who is not a comicbook movie nerd, I boldly go where no nerd dares to go. SPOILERS!! Also, I read The New Yorker's review of Endgame (1 of just 3 -- out of 47 total -- "BAD" reviews). Ep. 632: Super Bowl LII Audio Commentary Track (Old Ep. 377)
SOOOOOO.... I am in the process of uploading the archives of this podcast feed which used to be housed on SoundCloud over to Bandcamp (the show was previously titled The Jeffkkast) and I hit a snag at Episode #377 because that episode was the full-length director's commentary of SB LII Eagles v Patriots. I couldn't figure out to resize the lossless file for Bandcamp below 600MB (the smallest I could get it was 700). SO I'm re-upping it here and linking to this spot so folks can check it out. It's really dumb. This whole things is very stupid and I'm sorry. This podcast is a proud presentation of industries. Write letters to the show @

The show begins with me driving again. I rank the 8 first round NBA playoff serieses from a "how interesting they are to ME" PoV. (This was before the Clippers crazy comeback last nite). Then it's Episode 2 of The OP on the OA my premier OA Recap Show of Part II of the hit Netflix series (that has a new theme song now!). Then it's an original song time (the baseball related ... Ep. 628: The OP on the OA (Debut Episode)
It's the "Tax Day Baby" vs the "Tax Day Wizard" (those are the names of the 2 songs I play at the end of this). What else you ask? We've got a review of the 2007 Vice / documentary 'Screwed in Houston', some intro rambling I meant to post at the beginning of yesterday's episode, and LAST BUT NOT LEAST the debut of my new 'show within the show' "The OP on the OA" where "The Original Podcaster" recaps/reviews "The Original Angel" herself, I'm talking about the Hit Netflix Production 'the OA'™ ... Ep. 627: An Elephant Sitting Still and a Tiger Not Doing That (Ranking Things is Dumb #4)
In this eppy ep, I review the 2018 four-hour long Chinese film 'An Elephant Sitting Still' (Movie Review #186). This also doubles as Ranking Things is Dumb #4: Ranking the Films of Hu Bo (this film is #1 out of 1, because it his only film because he killed himself right after he finished making it; get it? Ep. 622: A call to action, what exactly is 'Mare Bonky' ? ? ?
Instead of reviewing the 2015 Jason Schwartzman mumblecore vehicle 7 Chinese Brothers we instead go through that actor's filmography wherein I discover I've seen 13 of his films and have NOT seen 13 of his films. BUT, much more importantly, we discover the non existent film 'Mare Bonky' (2000) which is listed there but doesn't have a Wiki or ANY INFO via IMDB or Google Search. A true mystery, that I now put to you good listener, cuz I frankly don't have the time.... is the handle if you have any clue as to what 'Mare Bonky' is. THANKS

Ep. 621: My review of Jordan Peele's US (United States, 2019)

Ep. 492: Movie Review 132 – Beginners (2011)
Here is the original text review: About half through Beginners, the second full-length feature by Mike Mills (Thumbsucker, 2005), main character Oliver (Ewan McGregor) spray-paints the following on a blank billboard before making out with Mélanie Laurent: "You Make Me Laugh But It Isn't Funny." He's speaking of course about Anna (Laurent), with whom he is in the beginning phases of courtship, but that also works perfectly as a phrase for describing this film. It's at least better than "comic drama." I watched this movie 'on demand' via Verizon received one out of five stars, which perturbed me... There are forces we are working against that are large and powerful but that doesn't mean we shouldn't try. I'm giving this a high score because it was the best movie I saw that came out in 2011 and I can't find anything to bitch about. If quote unquote "Ewan McGregor can't quite nail an American accent" is something you feel the need to mention in your film critique then maybe you should reconsider things (life choices, etc.), because the sound of McGregor's voice, while awkward, is also adorable and strangely fitting in this case given the fact that his character is the type that so deeply internalizes everything that when he finally gets around to talking about anything, how else are the words supposed to sound? This is a quirky film but not annoyingly so (unlike Thumbsucker, which was very good, but not great, in part because of this). There are times when Oliver becomes narrator and he talks about big ideas in a plain but poetic fashion ("This is what the sun looks like in 2003. The stars. Nature ... This is what happiness looked like in 1955," etc.). The point being at once obvious and culturally stunted in the mainstream. Mills presents these interludes as a series of still photos against a black background, which could have been disastrous but it works. Like most everything in this movie, the risks pay off generously. This is a movie about the human condition that utilizes a (secondary) character, who happens to be gay, to help illustrate its theme. This is a love story full of all kinds of emotions. Early on, Oliver's dog (who belonged to his recently deceased dad, Hal, played by the great Christopher Plummer) 'says', via subtitle, "Tell her the darkness is about to drown us unless something drastic happens right now." The entire film is full of that type of manic energy, though it never feels cliche. Nothing in this movie feels cliche, which is a feat in itself. Nothing feels forced. Every detail has been considered with great care. The acting is tremendous. It's relatable, believable, happy and sad. You should see this one-star motion picture as soon as possible.

Ep. 478: Plague of Fingernails
I got it in my mind that today was the day to fix my fingernails and that without fixing my fingernails, nothing else could occur. As if that were the beginning, the middle and the end of my existence, as my existence stands, today, however ghostly. It costs so much to live but it is free to cure the plague of fingernails. This might not be accurate information. 4,000 words is not a lot of words. It is less than 4 million. I learned this in school. It was the only thing I had to learn into school before I knew that school was not the place I needed to go to do the real learning. Flesh is not the same as skin. I need to turn 400 dollars into 4,000 before I can think about fixing my fingernails but I can't make a penny without fixed fingernails. The most hilarious thing about this episode of the podcast is that it's not about fingernails, really, at all. It's about cuticles. Is there a band out there called Cuticles? Would just Cuticles be a better band name than The Cuticles. I think I prefer the former, but it's close. So the typing is the cure and this is the point. The making of the art, in and of every waking second, is the cure. And the cure is the money as the data adds up. In the future, money will be fingernails because our cuticles will be so strong that the fingernails will grow and shed themselves of our bodies before each day is done. I can't wait for this future fingernail money! Cuticles are just soil and life as it is in farming, the soil is the heart of the matter. The beating pulse beneath our feet from up which every aspect of life is birthed. Heaven is hell and hell is heaven. If you ever see thousands of vultures then you know all religion is a lie. The holiest men look down to the ground, to the dirt. They feel the soil and might even rub some of it on their skin. Fingernails are the motherless ghosts of the skin. I would never describe the mother as emollient or humectant but what else could the mother be but water? The mother surely isn't words. The words are all underground, far beneath the soil, hobnobbing with the hypothetical and metaphorical. I am not Hindu but would never hinder you, so perhaps I am? Would you hinder me? Would you cut my fingernails and put them in a stew? Would you feed the stew to your deceased female relatives as you put something on the television? The feeling of the cuticles against my lips. I can't be the first person to enjoy this mystery. But I am determined to be the first person to destroy it. We can harvest the future money together. We can give it back to the people who need it. The people who need it the most are always the people who feel like they deserve it the less. But things are changing. Everything's changing all the time.
