Making the Minutes Count with Natalie Benamou
How have you been impacted by time this past year?  One thing we all have learned during the pandemic is what was our reality before and what we live now is forever changed. As much as we wish, believe and try, our now is on a path we don’t yet know the outcome.  This episode is a behind the scenes look at the personal journey of being an entrepreneur, but more than that, it is a look at how being a caregiver has shaped the passion to make a lasting impact for women. Listen to this personal episode as host Natalie Benamou shares the lessons she has learned about time and "Making the Minutes Count". Many of you listening have had difficult times this year.   Minutes, hours, days and weeks all blended together.  One of the hardest things learned this year, is to wait for answers. 5 Lessons About Time: 1. Time will move at the pace it's meant to move, sometimes too fast and sometimes agonizingly slow. 2. For those of us driven by a mission or a purpose, it can be really hard to slow down and take in the minutes and moments. 3. Push forward and don't let time be the thing that goes unanswered. 4. Making time for yourself can be really hard, especially for caregivers. 5. Time moves on for others at a different speed than for ourselves. "It's been hard to share this story because it is so deeply personal. My hope is that when you listen, you know, you're not alone. We are here for you. There are people to support you. And when you make the minutes count, that experience gives you joy and hope, especially for the future." - Natalie Benamou Natalie Benamou is the Founder of HerCsuite™, transforming the way organizations engage and advance women in every career phase.  HerCsuite™ Solutions include: All-In-One Platform and app- Corporate Portal for Employee Resource Groups and Women's Organizations, Networking, Programs, Immersive Events, Connected Mentoring- Expert Speakers with Breakouts - Engage and Learn- Speaker Presentations, Team Breakouts and Food Delivery via Grubhub. "Your brain has a number of processes that it uses to decide what to do, how to react, how to respond. Most of the time, we don't take that signal, that information and stop it, grab it, and make the conscious decision on what to do with it. We allow our brain and our experience, our baggage, our self-beliefs, things that are kind of automated scripts in the background to make the decision for us."- Alyssa Dver Thank you Alyssa Dver for being on the show! It's done by Lean In and McKinsey and this year it was interesting. The research found that women and people of colors are leading the diversity and inclusion efforts and being the people managers to check in with their teams and how they're doing. But there was also a section about allyship and a trend was that it found that white women feel like they're being really great allies right now, and women of colors didn't feel the same. I think there was a disconnect between what allyship is and what that looks like." Holly Corbett Thank you Holly Corbett for being a guest on the show! People only mention the positive – we don’t like to talk about failure – when was the last time someone mentioned the bought a stock that bombed?"  What are some strategies you do to help women start to have conversations about their wealth management?   "The first step in creating open conversations about wealth management is for everyone in the room to recognize that these are just numbers. How much money you have is not indicator on who you are as a person. Your net worth is not your self-worth. So we have to separate our shame, pride, ego, and embarrassment, whatever the emotion might be from our finances. Once we can create that separation, I find that the flood gates open. Find women want to see each other succeed, to get make good decisions and to get ahead in life – the idea sharing and support that comes from these conversations are incredibly inspiring and motivating." >> "Stop saying sorry – in all aspects of your life but especially in your financial life." Why is it so important that women feel there is a safe space to talk about money? "On an individual level, Money touches all of us, in every aspect of our lives, in almost every decision that we make. So we need to talk about it! If you aren’t getting paid what you’re worth, you need to know this information so be prepared to advocate and negotiate for a higher salary – your future self deserves it." Write down the names of people you already know and list out who can help you accomplish those goals. When speaking to your contacts, ask “who else can I talk to”? Additional Ideas ● Warm up cold calling with some research. Find similar interests or something that you have in common like going to the same college, grew up in the same town, etc. ● Send a handwritten follow-up note to help you stand out. ● Stay in touch by sending an article they may be interested in. ● If you ask someone in person to meet, it's 34 times more likely to be granted, compared with an email or phone invitation. ● Be genuinely curious and authentic when helping people. ● If you have time to eat, you’ve got time to meet new people. Enjoy a virtual lunch or coffee with someone. ● “Consistently look for ways to either reconnect with people that you know or meet new people.” Thank you, Pat Hedley, for this conversation, your expertise in networking and tips on how we all can meet 100 people. How to Leverage Your Value with Stephanie Sims
Are you looking for investors in your business and unsure where to start? Let’s take a walk with Stephanie Sims, founder of Finance-Ability®, former investment banker and finance expert. Stephanie gives her advice and strategies on moving from “shiny object syndrome” to prioritizing your growth strategies. This conversation with host Natalie Benamou and Stephanie Sims shows you how you can start leveraging your value today.  Evaluate Your Business: 1. Take a step back and understand what you want the business to be.  2. Develop your “credible milestone ask” based on what the next goal/objective is for your business.  3. Focus on your strengths and recognize your weaknesses when expanding your team. Hire people who will balance you out.  4. Think early about your path to profitability instead of only focusing on growth. The Ask: ● Things don’t have to be perfect when asking for money for your business. ● Be open with investors about your experiments (what worked and what didn’t work).  ● Watch out for “shiny object syndrome”. Is it going to add value to your business?  Know Your Worth ● Giving equity away for your business: If someone wants to invest in exchange for 5%, you need to know if that’s $50,000 or $500,000. It’s important to have a sense of the dollar value for what you’re giving away.  ● Receiving equity as partial payment at a new job opportunity: What does the deal look like if the equity doesn’t materialize vs. if it does happen.  Are you comfortable with the balance of risk and reward that you’ve agreed to take to make that deal work.  Thank you, Stephanie Sims, for this conversation, your expertise and helping entrepreneurs understand how to leverage their value.  Stephanie Sims has more than two decades in finance, quality & IT management and valuation of public and private entities. Stephanie’s experience with large transactions and her knowledge of how due diligence works made it easy to spot one of the key reasons that entrepreneurs face such difficulty getting financing: they don’t understand the fundamentals of evaluating risks versus rewards. Developing this knowledge base led her to see that everyone has the ability to manage their finances successfully, but they don’t always realize it. And that’s where the notion of Finance-Ability was born. The Science of Self-Compassion with Debbie Vyskocil
What if you could be kinder to yourself?  It turns out that there is science behind the messages we tell ourselves.  Does this sound familiar-you encourage others but have trouble being self-compassionate when it comes to your own inner voice? Let’s take a walk with Debbie Vyskocil, neuroscience innovator, leadership coach, and global speaker and change the messages we are telling ourselves. Listen to this conversation with HerCsuite™ Radio host Natalie Benamou and Debbie Vyskocil as they unlock the science behind treating yourself with self-compassion. Are You Doing This? ● Setting the bar for yourself, then getting close to it, only to raise it higher? ● Pushing yourself to be the best at every single thing you do? ● When you create a to-do list, no matter how many things you complete, your focus is drawn to the uncompleted item? Start Here: ● Write down your strengths, remember that you’ve got special gifts and don’t have to be perfect at everything. ● What you know is unique and should be shared-others think it is pretty amazing too-let that idea soak in a minute. ● Think about the negative phrase you beat yourself up with; you may not even be aware of saying it. ● Once you’re aware of this phrase, replace it with a positive phrase instead. “You can’t be creative. You can’t be innovative, if you’re beating yourself up, it’s impossible.”-Debbie Vyskocil Data and Your Brain: ● Debbie shares how using EEG testing equipment can show what negative self-talk is doing to your brain. Choose to be Epic with Carolyn Buck Luce
Let's enjoy walking and listening to this interview with Carolyn Buck Luce, inventor of The Decade Game®, co-founder Imaginal Labs LLC. Carolyn is a culture shifter, talent innovator, executive coach and speaker shares how women need to stand up for their power and their purpose. Carolyn has been a diplomat in the Soviet Union, an international and Wall Street banker who reinvented herself and created The Decade Game®. Carolyn has been on a journey of reinvention and showing women how to choose to be epic. Listen to this conversation with host Natalie Benamou and Carolyn Buck Luce as they discuss how you can rewrite your future starting today. Get Started with Choosing to be Epic: Commit to being epic by making the choice. Be the heroine of your own story. Center on the fact that it is your choice to be Epic. Other Inspirational Notes: Imagine what would be the most epic identity that reflected your greatest power, 10 years from now. Visualize how you will know yourself and be known by people you love. Embrace that identity and make it as epic and bold as possible. Stop waiting for something to happen, for something to change. When thinking about the past year with COVID-19 rethink it as happening for you, not to you. Create meaning for others in 3 ways: Go inside yourself and listen to what's longing to happen. Listen closely to the people who you love and say, what can I do that matters to them? Commit to your own mastery and that requires you to lean into what's really longing to happen.
