Episode 6 - Caring for Orchids

Episode 6 - Caring for Orchids

Orchids are beautiful plants to bring into your home!

I recently visited an orchid farm (Gubler Orchid Farm in Landers, CA), and purchased a few new orchids.

This inspired me to dive deep into orchid care, and I'm sharing what I learned with you in this episode.

I share general information about orchids, best practices for caring for your orchid, and orchid warning signs for potential issues.

Orchid Resources I recommend in the episode are:

1. American Orchid Society's Identify Your Orchid Website: : http://www.aos.org

2. Find your local Orchid Society or Botanical Gardens offering Orchid classes and shows

3. Find your nearest Orchid Farm like Gubler Orchid Farm.  They host events and special sales throughout the year, and they sell their own orchid potting mix and fertilizer.

4. Use apps like iNaturalist, PictureThis and Google Lens to ID your orchid.

I end the episode with a Meditation Moment featuring nature sounds recorded at the creek in Limekiln Canyon in Porter Ranch, CA.

It is a special park in a shaded canyon with little frogs and tadpole seasonally.

Enjoy!

Episode 5 - All About Compost

Episode 5 - All About Compost

In this episode I share tips, best practices and stories all about compost.

My dear friend Nolan inspired this episode by asking how he can get started with composting since he has excess leaves in his yard.

I share why I compost, what compost is, how it is made, and provide a list of what you can and can't add to your compost.

I also share a recent run-in I had with a furry creature in my compost bin, highlighting the importance of observing your compost.

At the end I share a nature meditation based on walking through a forest trail.

Set yourself up for a successful compost with my recommendations, and know you can always reach out to me if you need to troubleshoot a composting issue!

Episode 4 - Connect with Nature

Episode 4 - Connect with Nature

In this episode I share the different methods I use to connect with nature.

Connecting with nature can be difficult if you are unable to quiet your mind, but I give you some techniques you can practice to do so.

Connecting with Nature and dropping into meditation have very similar principles.  Using your sense to absorb and witness the space around you can help you find your sense of belonging on Earth.

I share stories about connecting with Nature at the beach, in my garden, and the techniques I use to get there.  It can be as simple as breathing and observing!

I also share a little Earth consciousness philosophy, and share a book called "Listening to Nature" by Joseph Cornell.

How do you connect with Nature?

Episode 3 - Spring Heat Wave

Episode 3 - Spring Heat Wave

Episode 3 - Spring Heat Wave

In this episode I share more stories of magic moments in our garden involving hummingbirds and butterflies.

I share what I've learned about gardening during a heatwave, and how to smell the wafting scents of spring blooming.

Then we dive deep into the plight of the Monarch Butterfly, distinguishing between the different types of Milkweed, and offering suggestions for improving habitat conditions for these beautiful and symbolic creatures.

I mention the Xerces Society for the conservation of invertebrates, who study and report on insects, including Monarch Butterflies.

I also mention the Theodore Payne Foundation, who is focused on promoting the cultivating of Native Plants through their educational programming, nursery and seed shop.

I end the episode with a Meditation Moment with flowing water sounds from my garden, and share a meditation called, "River," from my favorite meditation guide, "You are Wild," by Jessica Snow.  Check out Jessica Snow's website, You are Magic LA.

The wind sounds, flying hummingbird and caterpillar eating sounds are from Zapsplat.com.

The dog barking sounds in the background are courtesy of my sweet dog, Rocko.

Enjoy!
