He also serves as the Director of Advising for a leading non-profit over at Toast For Charity and leads the program “Professionals on the Block”. He is also the CEO of G.L.A. Enterprises. He has recently published his second book titled “The Burden of Masculinity” which will be available at the beginning of May. He is here today to discuss said book and the perspective that men should take when faced with the challenges of the burden of masculinity.

Stem4Us! Providing Youth for the Tech Industry
Business Spotlight: Talib I. Karim is the Co-Founder and CEO of STEM4US!, an advocacy organization dedicated to increasing the numbers and diversity of our nation’s workers and innovators in the Cybersecurity and other STEM sectors. To achieve this mission, STEM4US! engages private and public sector leaders to increase funding for science-related education and training. Recently, the group launched an initiative to divert youth and parents from jail to cybersecurity training at Historically Black Colleges and Universities and community colleges.
In addition, Talib serves as CEO of Abe Legal, an app that helps lawyers provide services to families, businesses, and nonprofits. Along with this, Talib manages a Washington, DC-based boutique business law firm that assists entrepreneurs with technology, education, and energy transactional, regulatory, and litigation matters.
Talib has taught as a professor at Bowie State University, a Historically Black College & University, based in Maryland. Talib’s coursework focused on labor, employment, electronic banking, online business enterprises, e-banking, venture capital, and other economic policy issues.
Previously Talib worked as the Legislative Director and Chief Counsel for Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee, As a veteran, Talib had the distinct honor of serving as a senior disabilities oversight counsel with the House Veterans Affairs Committee where he helped lead investigations that resulted in numerous reforms of the VA’s benefit claims system.
Talib’s college career was launched at the U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado. Ultimately, Talib earned his degrees in Mechanical Engineering and Law from the prestigious Howard University. Advocacy runs in the veins of Talib’s family, Talib’s wife, brother, sister, and three sisters-in-law are members of the legal profession. Talib’s legal career was inspired by his late father, a civil rights leader who worked with Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., and initiated a federal class-action suit that ended decades of discrimination in Memphis, TN.

In 2018, we introduced the Dallas Catalyst Project (DCP) as a place-based neighborhood revitalization initiative among TREC Community Investors and three nonprofit partners: St. Philip’s School & Community Center, Cornerstone Baptist Church, and Forest Forward. These organizations continue to team up to help make a difference in South Dallas’ Forest District.
Throughout the initiative, TREC members have served as project managers for the three community organizations and provided pro bono professional services, technical assistance, and fundraising support.

Business Spotlight: Charismatic, Energetic, and Captivating are words that describe the personality of Dr. Ketra. Armed with over 20-years of serving the community, Dr. Davenport-King is an advocate, speaker, mentor, life coach, and philanthropist who has radically impacted the lives of believers under the flagship of her ministry. Dr. Ketra L. Davenport-King, a native of Dallas, Texas, received her Bachelor of Arts and Science in Christian Counseling, Master of Arts in Christian Education, and Master of Business Administration from Dallas Baptist University. She earned her Doctorate of Strategic Leadership from Regent University. She has spent much of her life serving people in various capacities. One of her greatest joys is starting Life After Advocacy Group, Inc., in 2004, to help individuals who have been victims of sexual abuse recover and live a healthy life. Dr. Ketra opened the doors to Rock Dimensional Consulting (formally known as KLD Consulting Services) in 2005. Through RDC, she has spent the past 15-years coaching and training leaders, developing and educating church ministries, hosting leadership seminars and workshops. Dr. Ketra is known for her innovative and engaging Leadership Seminar name, ‘The Leadership ReCourse,’ designed to reconnect today’s leaders back to collaborative leadership. Dr. Ketra wholeheartedly believes, “when you live in a community, there should be a handprint of your work left behind for future generations.” She launched the North Vernon Women’s Community Bible Study group in 2015 to bridge the gap and bring together a diverse group of women to improve the family dynamic in underserved communities.
Her greatest accomplishment is her new book, Seeing Beyond The Shattered Glass, which is a fictional memoir based on her true-life events. Visionary. Motivator. Creator. These powerful words are but a glimpse into the DNA of serial entrepreneur and highly sought after business strategist, Ro Simmons. As early as her junior high years and even well beyond, Simmons exhibited leadership qualities indicative of a limitless, go-getting businesswoman. Determined, she entered the realm of cosmetology as a hairstylist, and then, in 2011, doubled up on her workload to manifest her aspirations. During the day, she managed six stores as a merchandising supervisor. By night, Simmons made time for her first love, training clients at Live Your Life - a gym and physical fitness center that she launched in Dallas the same year. By 2013, Simmons had transitioned into full-time entrepreneurship. Also during this time Ro competed in pitch competitions to raise capital for her businesses. She finished 1st place in 2016 for the Capital One Getting Down to Business Program. In the same year, she finished in 1st place for the Women's Resource Network. Collecting a total of 5 thousand dollars in cash and prizes. n March 2018, Simmons launched Business Lounge Dallas (BLD), as the only black and female-owned coworking space in the state of Texas. Since its inception in the bustling town of Addison, BLD has assisted over 100 clients with business ideas and launches - predominantly event spaces - in areas such as Chicago, South Carolina and internationally in Nigeria.

Rueben Wood was born on September 26, 1991, in Brunswick. At the age of seven years old, Rueben Wood took an interest in music. When he was ten years old, Wood began doing ciphers with his schoolmates. Moving to Northern Georgia, Rueben then developed a desire to get into the culinary field. After graduating from high school, he went on to attend the Art Institute of Atlanta to study culinary and obtained his cooking education.
In 2007, Rueben Wood began his stint in the entertainment industry by starting off as an artist by the name of Yung Bank. The genre of his music consisted of Hip Hop, Pop, and R&B. Upon releasing his mixtape Look At The World The Way I Do, it boosted his notoriety in his community as well as in other places as his music made it to online radio stations.
