#166 Katie Worth, Author of Miseducation: How Climate Change is Taught in America
KATIE WORTH is an investigative journalist who writes about science, politics, and their myriad intersections. She joined FRONTLINE in 2015 as the inaugural FRONTLINE-Columbia Tow Journalism Fellow, and in 2018 was selected as an O’Brien Fellowship in Public Service Journalism. She has worked on several FRONTLINE’S enterprise reporting projects and co-produced the cinematic interactive story “The Last Generation,” which won an Emmy for “Outstanding New Approaches: Documentary.” Her work has appeared in Scientific American, National Geographic, Slate, and The Best American Science and Nature Writing 2016. Worth grew up in Chico, California, just a few miles from Paradise, site of one of the worst of the massive fires that, because of climate change, are currently devastating the American West. During her reporting for Miseducation, she returned to her old middle school to find that climate change is being taught there as the subject of an unresolved scientific dispute, not a proven reality. https://www.amazon.com/Miseducation-Climate-Change-Taught-America/dp/1735913642 https://nexuspmg.com/https://nexuspmg.com/

Daron Babcock - Founder & CEO, Bonton Farms Disrupter. Social Justice Advocate. Sower of Seeds.   Moved by his personal beliefs, Daron Babcock, couldn’t sit idly by as he encountered his brothers and sisters in  South Dallas ravaged by institutional inequities. He left a  successful corporate career and moved from his home in North Dallas to serve inner-city residents of Bonton with his wife, Theda, for the past nine years. Known for crime, violence, and extreme poverty, Daron knew an intervention at the macro-level was not only necessary but possible in Bonton.  Daron is referred to as a “social entrepreneur,” having started multiple successful social ventures; Bonton Honey Company, The Market at Bonton Farms, a Coffee House, a Farmers  Market, CityBuild Housing, and most notably, Bonton Farms, one of the largest urban farms in the United States. Daron is not only the Founder and CEO, he is the perpetual visionary and re-inventor of what’s possible. Bonton Farms is so much more than a farm, it is the catalyst that is helping to level the playing field; creating the systematic change necessary so the residents of Bonton and as a  model to other marginalized neighborhoods across Dallas and the country can achieve the  “American Dream” that was promised 200 years ago.  “Our goal is not to simply grow food because we’re in a food desert, but to address WHY  Bonton is a food desert. Craig Kasberg began working on commercial fishing boats in Alaska at age 14, and by 19 was captaining his own fishing vessel in Southeast Alaska. #144 Azzedine Downes, President and CEO of the International Fund for Animal Welfare
When Azzedine Downes became President and CEO of the International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW) in 2012, one thing was clear to him: “Talking to people who already agreed with us just isn’t enough to get real results.” As IFAW’s Executive Vice President since 1997, Azzedine had worked closely with experts from across the sciences and decision makers from around the world. But when he became President, IFAW started bringing together what Azzedine likes to call “the unusual suspects.” Seamstresses in Malawi. Auction houses in China. Military intelligence officers in Minnesota. Working together, IFAW’s eclectic network is now helping animals and people thrive together in more than 40 countries. Azzedine has led IFAW through a groundbreaking period of geographic expansion and strategic consolidation. He’s helped open offices on four continents, including IFAW’s first office in the Middle East. He’s deployed IFAW’s world-class Tiger Team to South Asia, where new programs are proving critical support for the species. And he established IFAW’s Wildlife Crime program. Azzedine has also influenced international policies to create positive change on the ground. In Azzedine’s first year as President, IFAW signed a historic lease agreement with a Maasai community near Amboseli National Park in Kenya, securing 16,000 acres of precious habitat for elephants. Months later, Azzedine helped establish a first-of-its-kind cooperative framework between IFAW and INTERPOL’s Environmental Crime Program. For years, Azzedine has served as the Head of the Delegation to the CITES Conference of the Parties. And recently, he directed IFAW’s successful campaign for membership to the International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN). Before joining IFAW, Azzedine served as the Chief of Party for the U.S. Agency for International Development in Jerusalem and Morocco, as well as the Acting Regional Director for the United States Peace Corps in Eurasia and the Middle East. In 2015, Fast Company named Azzedine one of the “The Most 100 Creative People in Business,” and he has been listed among The NonProfit Times’s “Power and Influence Top 50.” He is a member of the Global Tiger Forum Advisory Council, and he currently sits on the U.S. Trade and Environmental Policy Advisory Committee. This is accomplished by taking accountability for deciding when short-term finite costs are worth it to advance our infinite vision. I am responsible for ensuring our employees are fulfilled, and that their well-being is put far ahead of the bottom line. I want everyone to know WHO we are and what we stand for well before they know what we do. I want to help build better people in order to build a better world.
