NIL NTK's - The "What You Need to Know about Name, Image, & Likeness" Podcast

In preparation for my upcoming Hot Button Topic Session that I'm leading at the National Athletic Directors Conference this upcoming week in Nashville, I've been presenting to a lot of Leagues, AD's, Admin teams, on many different elements around NIL and NIL Preparation. 

There are a lot of steps I walk them through, but one of the most important components that they must start with is truly understanding their states NIL / Amateurism policies, (or those in the states around them), and clarifying elements that they need to understand to strategize their forward movement.

In this episode, I dig deeper into a few reasons why, some things to consider, and also some next steps moving forward!

Over the past year, I've really pushed schools to start to consider what Name, Image, & Likeness looks like within their respective districts, and to begin formulating their strategy and framework.  My doctorate just happens to be in Educational Leadership & Policy Development, so one of my passion points is helping schools consider policy, and developing a framework that adds value to what their articulated goals might be.

As NIL continues to gain traction, I'm hopeful that more and more districts will start to discuss what I call the "Four"ward Movement Framework.  For those of you that don't like a play on words, I'm super sorry, but, it just fits!

There are 4 key things that every district needs to be discussing now with their administrative teams in order to be prepared, and working from the front, instead of frantically piecing something together that is going to add massive amounts of stress and pressure to everyone involved.

Get your plan together, and start to figure out what this will look like within your district!

This week, the Ohio High School Athletic Association's member schools voting down an NIL Referendum with a nearly 2-1 vote.  As the conversation grew regarding why, and people starting weighing in, there was a clear misunderstanding by many regarding what NIL actually is, how it works, and ultimately, some of the specific Red Flag NTK's.  

Social Media was in an uproar as banter between those for and against chimed in, but often without validated arguments due to lack of education.  This episode hopes to help dive in a bit further, and provide a little more overview of some of those key things to consider when learning about NIL.

Name, Image, & Likeness has moved quickly over the past few years, and as it gains traction each day further infiltrating the High School space, often people aren't sure why, or don't understand how it is picking up so much speed.  This episode aims to give you a brief background of that transition, and provides a few examples of how specific situations are causing the increased consideration & integration in High School Athletics.
