He is the founder and president of the Center for Adolescent Studies.  He is passionate about training professionals from multiple disciplines in creating authentic, healing relationships with adolescents that contribute to positive outcomes. Most of his speaking lies at the intersection of building authentic relationships, trauma-informed care, and teaching mindfulness to youth. He was formerly an incarcerated youth himself and was privileged to change his life from a path of drugs, violence, crime, and self-destruction to that of healing and transformation. Dr. Margaret has been a psychologist in private practice for over twenty-five years. She began writing online in 2012 and was just narcissistic enough to believe that she might have something fresh or funny to say about she has learned. She has begun a podcast called The SelfWork Podcast with Dr. Margaret Rutherford.  Her new book, entitled Perfectly Hidden Depression: How to Break Free from the Perfectionism that Masks Your Depression, was launched in November of 2019. Cortney has won some of the most prestigious awards in her field, including the 2015 Early Career Award in Research from the American Psychological Associations Minority Fellowship Program; the 2011 Theodore H. Blau Early Career Award for Distinguished Professional Contributions to Clinical Psychology (awarded jointly by the American Psychological Foundation and the American Psychological Association); and, the 2010 Samuel M. Turner Early Career Award for Distinguished Contributions to Diversity in Clinical Psychology. Although Cortney received tenure from UNLV in 2012, she formally retired from academia in 2014 to pursue a career that would allow her more time with her family and more interaction with the general public. Lisbeth Janelle-After 10 years of working in international business development in the Oil and Gas Industry, She experienced first hand the toll and pressure that her work placed on her body and mind.  She loved her job, but she was running herself down, even taking over 150 trips in as little as 2 years. Melody Allen- On Emotional Healing, Reiki, Meditation, Trauma
Melody Allen has devoted years of study to healing arts. She has practiced meditation of over 15 years, and I have been practicing Reiki since 2016, and is currently a Reiki Master. She is passionate about healing the mind and the body, and have found that using both is key to healing when we feel stuck. Emotional pain can and does manifest in physical pain, and many times the areas pain is found in the body has a symbolic expression to the emotions stuck there. She started her own healing journey because she wanted to free herself from the pain of her childhood trauma. Over the past few years, she has become very interested in finding her life purpose. Around the same time, she found her Reiki Mentor and teacher. She felt really lost and started praying and asking God to show her what her life purpose was, and she has been guided ever since. She found that Reiki works really well at healing the body and letting go of stuck emotions, but she wanted to know how to guide people to their highest purpose. Sam Miller- On Depression, Healing, Self-Awareness
Samuel Miller is a writer and photographer who comes from a large family. He grew up outside Chicago, performing in any way he could during school: plays, choir, musicals, band. Throughout high school, he worked three jobs every summer and saw every movie he could. He studied film at Columbia College and drove a plow truck in the winters. Monday Morning- Navigating through Anxiety and Depressive feelings
I had never felt like this on Monday Morning.  I laid in bed for almost 2 hours feeling very weird, miserable and didn't know exactly what I was feeling. I had only heard and read about situations when people feel a lack of motivation to not go to work because of so-many-reasons. I got up, picked up my journal and filled in  7 pages. I wanted to capture it in my voice as well so that people who(sometimes) feel the same on Monday Morning. know that- they are not alone. This is my first attempt to capture, in my morning raw voice, what I was feeling. "Practice courage over comfort and confidence"- Brene Brown "There are two sides of a pendulum"- Anthony De Mello I reminded myself of these quotes(above). We have the power to feel good. We can make this choice to feel good at any moment. We can choose to give positive meaning to any troublesome moments. It's up to us to decide to move forward in life no matter what happens. You are not alone. It's OK to feel depressed and negative, and be aware of it so that you can do something about it.
