A fumble recovery and 25-yard touchdown run by Clint Ratkovich gave NIU the 33-27 overtime victory over the Buffalo Bulls to secure the Mid-American Conference West Division championship. The Huskies are heading to Detroit, but they have one more regular season game on the docket against the Western Michigan Broncos. NIU coaches and players say they aren't overlooking the meeting, wanting to redeem a loss in 2020 and send off seniors on a high note. Northern Star sports editor James Krause sits down with senior punter Matt Ference to discuss what emotions senior players carry into their final game at Huskie Stadium. Plus, Krause breaks down the Broncos ahead of their visit to DeKalb on Tuesday on ESPNU.

NIU and head coach Thomas Hammock can clinch the MAC West with a win on the road against the Buffalo Bulls on ESPN2. After trailing by as many as 26 points, NIU had a potential program-record comeback denied in the last two minutes by the Wyoming Cowboys in a 50-43 loss. Thomas Hammock's team once again showed toughness and heart that won over fans at Huskie Stadium's first full-capacity game since before the COVID-19 pandemic. The toughness and heart of the Huskies will face it's hardest test yet this coming Saturday when NIU walks into Michigan Stadium in Ann Arbor to face the 25th ranked Michigan Wolverines.
