“How an Open Mic Live Stream is Saving a Local Business” featuring Wes Malkin

Wes Malkin is an Emmy award winning Director, Cinematographer, Editor, and Photographer. He’s been shooting commercials, film, and documentaries, for over 25 years. Wes is also an educator, teaching filmmaking, photography, as well as helping create courses for Crystal cruise lines called Creative Media Fundamentals.
Wes is also a musician at heart and has been playing since age of 8. He plays a wide range of musical styes from folk and bluegrass to Jazz, Blues on Trumpet, mandolin, guitar, banjo and a few others. He spent his college years touring world wide before moving to Florida.
Now a days you can find Wes frequent a known staple in South Florida, The Luna Star Café. Where open mic nights draw some of the most talented musicians in the Florida area. Luna Star has been supporting singer and songwriters for over 25 years .
Since the quarantine, Wes and his friends were missing the song swaps and open mics that were a mainstay in the music scene in south Florida.
In an effort to help keep Luna Star open during the pandemic, he came up with the idea of doing a Virtual open mic…The QuaranTUNE open mic show. With each artist contributing one song , then assembling a show and running it as a live event on facebook, The Luna Star Café has been able to stay open with all the generous donations.
Wes is here to talk about the music scene in Florida and how you can help save a local business and maybe get involved creatively.
