It’s what we want the most. It’s what we need. To be heard, understood, loved, touched, cared for, valued, alignment, loyalty, trust, trusted, but more than anything else, Connection. Human Connection.
Over the last four weeks, I’ve seen a world push back on us. A world pushing into “The Normal”. A world that tells us the new normal is social distancing, a new normal of elbow taps, rather than a handshake, or a fist bump. The new normal of giving someone a dirty look because they’re 2.5” inches over the Big Red Social Distancing guide circle ⭕️at the grocery store. If we weren’t already feeling alone and disconnected, this event definitely takes the cake. So what now?
I was on a Zoom Call with a client this week and she started to ask me some questions about my business, and one of the largest projects of my life. As I started to open up and discuss the answers, I found myself losing control of my emotions. The tears started to come down my cheeks, and my broken heart for those hurting took my ability to speak away. It was hard talking about the realities surrounding people’s lives of feeling hopeless. The video I saw a week ago of a pregnant woman jumping off an apartment building to her grave. Can you imagine the pain one must feel to end it all with a free fall of “I’m done”? Yes, I can imagine that pain. I’ve felt it many times.
So what can we learn from this global pause? The World putting us on hold, on layaway. The new normal. What normal? Is there really such a thing? Have you learned anything through this? I have. I’ve learned many things. Some good, and some not so good. I could sit here and type for hours, leading me down the path of publishing another book. I can’t. I have work to do. The best work of my life.
So where do we go from here? What’s next for you, for your family? What matters the most?
I want to spend the next few episodes of my podcast, No Bull Biz, unpacking that answer as I sit down with business owners, and leaders around the world, and hear so many different answers to these questions.
The one thing I can guarantee we will never forget about this is how important everything we took for granted has now become the things we’ve wanted the most. Connection. There’s nothing like Human Connection.
