The film is a portrait of a school teacher, her stubborn jazz musician husband, and their five kids living in Brooklyn in 1973. The movie stars Alfre Woodard, Delroy Lindo, and newcomer Zelda Harris. Crooklyn also features cameos by RuPaul, Isaiah Washington, Bokeem Woodbine, José Zúñiga, and Spike Lee himself.

The rom-com stars an A-list cast of up and comers of the early 2000's including Jennifer Garner in her first starring role. The movie also includes Mark Ruffalo, Judy Greer, Andy Sirkis, Christa B. Allen, and director Gary Winnick in his first major studio film.
