#44 - Part 1 - John Astin - Home Is Where Reality Is - What is nonduality?
Paul Dobson speaks with nonduality author and teacher John Astin.    If we want to find wholeness, we have to look somewhere other than within our habitual perception of distinction and differentiation. We have to discover the nature of all beyond characterisation.    There’s always a relentless constancy, a fact of beingness, of the existence of everything no matter the descriptions. This immediate actuality is where we discover the totality that shines forth as what we characterise in different ways. The totality is that which is inclusive of everything.     What we call the interpreting mind that seems to split and divide and turn the totality into seeming pieces, is actually the same totality. It’s the fundamental basis of everything and it gives rise to this moment, including any dualistic conceptualising.    There's a beauty in ‘what is’ even when the present moment feels difficult. That beauty is transcendental, and it doesn't have an opposite. It's a beauty that's inclusive of all things because it is all things. There's nothing else but that, the one reality. It's an unthinkable energy that’s bursting forth as each instant and it’s unthinkably intelligent. It’s the pure presence of this radical open-ended, unstoppable, embrace of apparent multiplicity.     What we think of as our little isolated separate ego-self, is absolutely none other than the boundless absolute reality. That's what we are.   John’s site: https://www.johnastin.com/  Our site: https://nisargayoga.org/  Music by Scott Buckley - https://www.scottbuckley.com.au/library/

#43 - Nic Higham And Paul Dobson - Reality Is One And All - The Nonduality Podcast
Here's another episode of The Nonduality Podcast with author and nondual therapist Nic Higham and co-podcaster Paul Dobson.   If there is a non-dual all-encompassing reality, it must be here and now, no matter how this moment seems. If this profound truth is recognised, that there's one reality expressing itself unconditionally as all, the search ends. Though it may not comply with our fantasies, reality is life as it is. This exploration of nonduality is not about reaching a specific state but acknowledging the obvious.   We could call this recognition 'spiritual awakening', 'self-realisation', 'enlightenment', or simply being, living and experiencing life. We are already deeply familiar and engaged with a capacity of natural experiencing in which flows a seamless and indivisible flow of experiences that are made of what we are. What else can we be other than the actuality of experiencing? The fact that reality can be anything is the most profound expression of love and freedom.  While it's true that reality is nondual, it seems as if it's split up into an infinite amount of separate experiences. In this sense, it is both one and many, yet neither of these configurations. We can't make any absolute conclusions about life; we can't pin it down, no matter how convenient that would be. We, therefore, find ourselves in an open-ended exploration of experiencing, nakedly with what is, always aligned what the indefinable suchness of reality.   http://nisargayoga.com/ Music by Scott Buckley - https://www.scottbuckley.com.au/library/

#42 - Cormac Doherty - You Are Not A Stranger Here - The Nonduality Podcast
In this episode, Nic Higham and Paul Dobson speak with Cormac Doherty. There's nothing else but reality and reality is nondual; singular, all-encompassing. It's here, it's obvious, and it's immediate. When we try to conceptualise reality or to attempt to explain its mechanisms, we soon discover that its complexity is off the charts. The flipside to unknowing, indeterminacy, and uncertainty, is an openness to wonder and novelty, to new information as it unfolds. There's an aspect of this existential openness where one can be available to what's revealing itself in realtime. The opposite state is concluding, "Well, it's like this, and it's fixed this way forever." We're trying to evoke a kind of wordlessness. There's always a constant presence of experiencing that is the fundamental ground. What else would the ground be, if not experiencing? We're talking about actuality and actuality is experiencing. It is what is given and all we know. From one perspective, we're a tiny little dot in that which has no reference points; just limitless space in all directions. Where's the coherence in that? Where's the logic in that? This is simply an ongoing, open-ended exploration in which we open our eyes and look around the world while being directly nakedly tuned-into what is. In the final inquiry, reality is unknown, but it's anything but unfamiliar. We're also absolutely intimate with it because we are it. "Like a wave in the ocean," Alan Watts said, "You are not a stranger here." All phenomena arise in you and from you, the one experiencer that is verifiable. And so, the dropping of the need to explain and the need for answers can bring a natural capacity of flowing with whatever reality is. #41 Joan Tollifson - The Natural Acceptance Within the Recognition of Wholeness - The Nonduality Podcast
In this episode of The Nonduality Podcast, Paul Dobson speaks with Joan Tollifson. Joan says that what we call non-dual understanding, realization or awakening, is an acceptance of this moment. An acceptance of everything; including our human foibles, our opinions, even our moments of upset and resistance. It's about accepting more and more. Not as something we do, but as a natural outcome of recognizing the uncontrollable nature and the wholeness of it all. It’s recognizing that whatever life moves us to do is a happening of the whole, of the totality. It’s not the doing of an individual little ‘me’, which doesn't even exist. Everything we call good or bad is part of this totality. At a deeper level of magnification, we can't find such concepts. In fact, we can’t pin down any expression of life. And at the same time, we can't ignore or dismiss the dimension of reality which does appear to depend on conceptualization and memory. After all, the human dimension is where we live our everyday lives. The most helpful thing we can do here, is to stop trying to do something. To be with the bare actuality of the feelings themselves, just the raw sensations and energies. There’s no personal entity inside the body, however, who can make that happen. It’s an effortless recognition in awareness that there’s only an ever-unfolding flow of subtleties in this exploration of reality. It’s really important not to fixate on any particular way of conceptualizing and exploring reality. Likewise, there’s not some final landing place or ultimate conclusion to be reached at the end of a spiritual path. It’s more like an open exploration of this immediate and timeless moment in which there are aspects of a seamless, unfolding, ever-present whole. Life doesn't really have any borders or divisions. Similarly, the ocean at surface-level has a lot of different waves and movements, but is one ocean. In a practical and accessible way, when we investigate deeply and tune into the very presence or beingness of whatever is present - whether it seems like pain or pleasure - there is something there that's surprisingly quite wonderful, ecstatic or radiant. We don’t find anything personal, tangible or definable; only a natural aspect of this undivided totality that can't be pinned down. This, says Joan, is true acceptance and inclusivity, a real possibility that can be discovered and explored right now, the only moment there is. #40 - Cormac Doherty - Exploring The Familiar Unknown - The Nonduality Podcast
Paul Dobson and nondual therapist Nic Higham speak with Cormac Doherty. There is the fabricated dimension of language and communication, belief and ideology, as well as assumption and inference. There's also the dimension, however, of real-time-no-time experiencing. The latter is abundantly rich and ultimately impossible to capture in language, even though we try. This dimension is the raw actuality of this moment, the immediacy of This, right here and now. On top of it, the thought arises, "I am having an experience." But what is this indescribable 'suchness' or 'giveness' prior to identification and conceptualisation? This question is essentially ontological or existential in nature, one that each apparent person must answer for themselves. Once we're out of our belief systems we took to be an accurate representation of reality, an exploratory component of experiencing is accessible. This ontological question is not about getting somewhere and striving to fill in the elusive gaps. It's not about seeking to reach the pinnacle of cerebral or even spiritual understanding. It's an on-going experiential exploration, the clear and direct 'seeing' of whatever is unfolding spontaneously within this timeless presence. This One Life with which we're already profoundly intimate. The very foundation and essence of our inherited ideas and assumptions.  https://nisargayoga.org/  Music by Scott Buckley - https://www.scottbuckley.com.au/library/

#39 - John Astin - The Actuality Of Experience Beyond Definition - The Nonduality Podcast
In this episode, Paul Dobson is joined again by John Astin. Episode #39. Paul speaks with John Astin again. We live in a world in which there appears to be great certainty about everything, all the things we've grown accustomed to knowing the meaning of. The presumed objects and events of the world, and the world itself, often have the whiff of incompleteness, and we have a sense of lack. That's one perspective - duality - the perspective of separate phenomena. Yet, if we enter into any phenomena and explore its nature, we never arrive at a final conclusion. There can be a recognition that life is beyond comprehension, and therefore, free of problems. In this episode of The Nonduality Podcast, John Astin reminds us that Reality is nondual and free of definition. There's not some greener grass on the other side. There is only the One Life somehow being here, now, and appearing as this moment. Everything is That, no matter how things look. All is that boundless, seamless, indivisible, infinity of existence. #38 The Nonduality Podcast - The Radical Inclusivity Of Effortless Experiencing
Paul Dobson and nondual therapist Nic Higham talk about the radical inclusivity of effortless experiencing.  There is one infinite, indescribable, inconceivable reality, and we are that. This reality is full of nothing but itself and absolutely in love with itself. Incredibly, through the human perspective, we seem to have condensed ourselves down to tiny little stick figure ideas about ourselves. Our unquestioned beliefs often convince us. Consequently, we feel limited,  we suffer, and we seek the end of seeking. As people, we know the reality that we are through the play of opposites, which are never absolute and always relative. Our forgetfulness is like forgetting the sun is present while the moon eclipses it. The truth is, reality is forever appearing and responding to itself through seemingly different,  dualistic forms. However, we forget the boundless context within which everything appears. While this is often our experience, it is possible to realise that no appearance can truly limit us, that no one expression is our entirety. Nor are we composites of thoughts, feelings and senses. We can recognise that nothing is out of place, for whatever is here is simply the inevitable actuality of life. As life, we can hold and contain it all, no matter how things may seem on the surface. We are free from the temporary and the relative because they don't define us ultimately. Simultaneously, every appearance is equally permitted to arise since there is nothing but reality. In this exploration of the non-dual nature of life, we're not trying to redefine anything or to reach a philosophical or spiritual conclusion, but seeing if our existing definitions and conclusions are valid through deep inquiry and investigation. For this, we need only look within our direct experience and discern that which is most certain, truthful and dependable.  Nic Higham's website: https://nisargayoga.org/  Music by Scott Buckley - https://www.scottbuckley.com.au/library/

#37 - The Nonduality Podcast - Cormac Doherty - The Wonder Of Experience
Paul Dobson and nondual therapist Nic Higham speak with Cormac Doherty.    A new-born baby doesn’t have a conceptual framework. There's no instruction manual! We're literally informed. We get a kind of ‘backstory’. “I am a human being. This is a world of space and time.” It's not that there's anything wrong with these ideas per se, it's just that they're myopic and limiting and we can start to feel trapped. At some point, we may be motivated to begin questioning. Something maybe destabilises our knowledge. At that point, we move out of a very heavily invested set of beliefs into a position of unknowing. We see that any belief system is purely speculative. We drop all the beliefs, all the labels, all the ideas, and we're right back here, where we've always been! Reality is everything and anything and expresses as everything and anything. You can't explain Reality; you can't capture it. And yet, there is the absolute richness of it in the immediacy of its happening. It's so simple because it's just the fact of experiencing. It’s simply about being with This as it actually is.   Cormac's website is an exploration of experiencing/reality: www.cormacdoherty.com   Nonduality author and therapist Nic Higham's website: https://nisargayoga.org/  Music by Scott Buckley - https://www.scottbuckley.com.au/library/ Footage: Pexels

#36 - The Nonduality Podcast - Finding Yourself Everywhere And Nowhere
Paul Dobson and nondual therapist Nic Higham talk about Finding Yourself Everywhere And Nowhere.   Consciousness inherits a conceptual framework through which to perceive and interact with itself. The mind seeks to try and resolve the conceptual with more concepts. We’ve taken ourselves to be the mind and its words. We’ve taken the words to be the truth. In spirituality, if we can even call it spirituality, we're not seeking to reconfigure concepts. We’re seeking the actual nature of the conceptual, of the mind, of anything that can be known. Just have a really good look directly. That’s the beginning. Everything that you are experiencing is you. You are the whole experience. It’s all the same source. Whatever is making the planet spin, is making the trees grow and your cells regenerate. It’s an unfolding of just incomprehensible, inconceivable intelligence. It’s now and it always is now. It’s just this. It’s not about upgrading anything or redefining anything. It’s just about this suchness, this isness of this timeless moment in which you are absolutely engaged because you are it. You literally only ever find yourself. Everywhere you go you only ever find yourself.   Nic Higham's website: https://nisargayoga.org/  Music by Scott Buckley - https://www.scottbuckley.com.au/library/

#35 - The Nonduality Podcast - Joan Tollifson - The Unity of the Transcendent and the Personal
Paul Dobson speaks with nonduality author and teacher Joan Tollifson. The stories that the mind tells are just stories or thoughts. They’re never really true. We have a certain view, but we don’t really know anything. When we go into the sensory reality of anything, there is nothing solid there at all in the space of awareness. When you actually tune into the actuality of the body, it's not solid at all nor separate from its environment. The whole spiritual path is really just about seeing through delusion. The more we recognise the fluidity of everything and the insubstantiality of our ideas, the more we’re able to be at ease with things being exactly the way they are, which doesn't mean we might not do something to change things. One moment there is transcendence, and the next there is the personal story. Neither need be dismissed. But there can be a noticing that there is one whole appearing in this aware space. https://www.joantollifson.com/ Nonduality author and nondual therapist Nic Higham's website: https://nisargayoga.org/ Music by Scott Buckley - https://www.scottbuckley.com.au/library/ Video footage: Pexels

Nonduality Meditation - The Unconditional Receptivity of Awareness 200720
As ever in these nonduality meditations with Nic Higham, the invitation is to enquire into your direct experience. There is nothing to learn here, to impart to, transmit. No magic tricks. Only reality as it is. Only this moment, this presence as it is. When we enquire into this, we are not seeking understanding in terms of something the mind can grab hold of and own. We're simply resting into what already is. You already know what is. You're never not here, never not now, never not present, never not aware. Just be. There is no need to work out what this being is, to understand it, even to find it. Without effort, what is there to understand? You simply are. When we are conscious of our presence, we say, think, or feel "I am." This 'I am-ness', as Nisargadatta Maharaj called it, is the recognition of your being here, now. #34 - The Nonduality Podcast - Life's Unconditional Inclusivity
The Nonduality Podcast with Paul Dobson and nondual therapist and coach Nic Higham from http://www.nisargayoga.org/ What is nonduality? There appear to be separate individual beings who have their own existence and who are separate from each other. The mind derives its knowledge from observation of the actual. However, knowledge itself is not actual. It’s nothing but a symbol of That which is beyond the symbol. There has to be a separate existence of something else to be a separate experiencer, and there isn’t. You can't find one anywhere. It's all one seamless flow. All is reality. All is life. There is no division. Everything is, in the truest sense, absolutely one. There’s a radical inclusivity, an unconditional acceptance. It's not about even trying to cultivate love and compassion. The awareness that you are is already loving. It’s all completely allowed no matter what your mind is coming up with or telling you. The notions we have about ourselves and life eventually disintegrate, because the hard truth is they are only concepts only. They are constructs only.  Music by Scott Buckley - https://www.scottbuckley.com.au/library/

#33 - The Nonduality Podcast - Bradley Bemis - The Fluid Nature of the Awakening Journey
The Nonduality podcast with Nic Higham. Our guest is Bradley Bemis.  We explore the nondual awakening or enlightenment journey from dreaming, seeking, awakening, deepening to ceasing.  Most of us are living from our unquestioned assumptions until something happens in our experience that causes us to begin to question. We move from that place of unquestioned assumptions to acknowledging that something in our experience needs our attention. Something breaks open in our own direct experience and we say to ourselves, “I really don't know anything at all!” There is a recognition of why there can’t be an answer to be found. If you come to terms with the fact there is no answer, the quality of seeking dissipates. The flame goes out. Bradley Bemis is an Orlando-based spiritual author, teacher, and guide who fully embodies the nondual wisdom and compassion of awakeness. #32 - The Nonduality Podcast - The Unresolvable Flow Of Experience
The Nonduality Podcast with nonduality author and nondual therapist Nic Higham and Paul Dobson. There’s an idea in the spiritual search that our true Self is in some place far away. This moment is not good enough. It’s not there yet. We think, “I’m not there yet. I have to be good enough to be accepted into the realm of completeness.” What do we really know? All we have are symbols, a bunch of representations. It always comes back to the same thing. I can know ‘I am’ and that something appears to be happening, although I don’t know what that is. Experience is happening. Awareness is happening. “I don’t have a clue what this is anymore”, says Paul Dobson. “Being comfortable with that fact leaves the door open for freedom, because you know that your interpretations can’t possibly be the thing. Realising you were never in prison.” There is just simply the flow of ‘is-ness’ and that is what you are. “You don’t need to try to navigate, fight block or accept,” says Nic Higham. “It’s all accepted, not by ‘me’ as a person, but by ‘me’ as Reality. You are seeking Reality in Reality, as Reality.” This more you investigate into any appearance, you can only find the spontaneous flow of experience. You don’t find something caught in the flow when you really investigate. It’s a magnificent unfolding of absolute mystery. This isn’t a philosophy, this is just within your present experience. Every part of Reality is the whole. The ultimate mystery is that there is no mystery. http://nisargayoga.com/ Music by Scott Buckley - https://www.scottbuckley.com.au/library/

The Nonduality Podcast with Paul Dobson. In this episode, Paul speaks with John Astin. This is part 1. Our direct experience is revealing that this instant is in the most radical kind of flux, flow and fluidity. This is our experience from instant to instant. Our perceptions vanish as they are perceived. The arising of a perception is also its vanishing. If we look at it with some care and curiosity, our direct experience reveals the impossibility of definition, the impossibility of conceptualising what this is.
