Living up to our “typically” every other Tuesday release schedule, here it is Hitchhikers...one week late, & not what we promised. Instead, it’s an open floor discussion of randomness including, but not limited to: Season 2 of Eli Roth’s History of Horror and Creepshow on Shudder, Rob Zombie remaking The Munsters, a mini-dive into Unhinged (2020), & we discuss a few documentaries that we’ve gotten into lately. We also talk about some other podcasts we enjoy, Wrestlemania 37, the Toxic Avenger remake, fantasy booking an episode for Season 3 of The Last Drive-In with Joe Bob Briggs, & we share our thoughts on the newest reimagining of Mortal Kombat that releases on 4/23. ***A Reminder: This will be the last show for at least a month...just need some time to refresh & recharge before we return better than ever with Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (1990) for EP. 56!!!

🎃🕸🕷GREETINGS & HAPPY HALLOWEEN HITCHHIKERS!!! ☠️⚰️👻 We finally made it to that magical 24 hours of spooky goodness that we’ve been waiting for all year!!! The Lord couldn’t be with us this time out, but we called in some reinforcements as we have guests galore - we have Justin Ramsey from the Raised in Horror: The Psycho Siblings Podcast, & three of Dirt Candy Production’s finest - Brooklyn Ewing, Justin Ewing, & our favorite creep Jerry Larew to help us review Tom Holland’s 80s vampire classic, Fright Night (1985)!!! In addition to the review (we got sidetracked a few times), we discuss the best fruits to dip in caramel, taking shots of absinthe with Tom Holland, filming Lloyd Kaufman’s crotch, wacky but true neighbor tales from Dirt Candy, & the King is the wrongest he’s ever been. We also talk about our annual must-see Halloween movies while the Mikes on mics from the Drive-By Wrestling Podcast swing by to share their personal favorites as well.

Episode 47 - Pumpkinhead (1988) Review

Greetings once again Hitchhikers!!! We’re halfway through our NHP Halloween Favorites theme for October & we’re bringing a guest with us this time - one of the hosts from Raised in Horror: The Psycho Siblings Podcast - Justin Ramsey!!! For this review, we dive into Stan Winston’s directorial debut, Pumpkinhead (1988) for EP. 47. We ask if the title is a bit misleading, leaving us with an earthbound Xenomorph-type being instead of a jack o’ lantern-headed entity. The Dick Warlock Factor is in full effect and we talk about shirtless Lance Henriksen way too much. *NOTE: At the end of the previous episode, we said Fright Night (1985) was the next review. Plans changed, so we bumped up Pumpkinhead and Fright Night will be released on Halloween.*

🎶🎵Reunited and it feels so good!🎵🎶 Welcome back Hitchhikers...it’s great to be back & it’s been way too damn long!!! Taking September off wasn’t the plan, but sometimes you gotta adapt to what’s going on. We’re so excited to kick off the spooky season of October with our first of three NHP Halloween Favorites, the King’s pick for EP. 46, The Ghost and Mr. Chicken (1966)!!! We decided to start the month off light-hearted and crank up the scary as we go on. This King family favorite is basically a Scooby-Doo plot without Scooby-Doo, that stars the legendary Don Knotts as our lovable loser - Luther Heggs. The Mayor has issues with crickets, there’s Don Knotts impressions, NHP Halloween giveaway news, & shenanigans abound.

Episode 44 - Creepshow 2 (1987) Review

AHHH...the great outdoors!!! There’s not many things better than scary stories being told by a campfire, so we agreed to make another go of a camping theme this summer, cracking beers & facing fears, making horror anthologies the topic of conversation, picking up right where we left off with Creepshow (1982), we bring you Creepshow 2 (1987) for EP. 44!!! We get some old school King parenting, while spiteful King makes a triumphant comeback! The Mayor says “filler isn’t filler if it’s effective,” and we give mini-reviews of the lesser known Creepshow 3, as well as our thoughts on the new tv series from Shudder.

Originally chosen by Adam Parsons, we present to you EP. 42 - Se7en (1995)!!! Episode 41 - Night of the Creeps (1986) Review

What better way to close out June than wait until the last day to release the final entry for It Came from Late Night TV Month...Night of the Creeps (1986) for EP. 41?! We discuss how this may be the ultimate love letter to all things horror/science fiction, King tries to crush the Lord’s fanboy dreams of meeting Fred Dekker, & we share bathroom stall graffiti memories from our younger days. We also ask is this and The Monster Squad (1987) in the same univer...Dekkerverse & do we really want a sequel 35+ years later?? Oh yeah...Tom Atkins y’all. Recognize. All this & more in EP. 41 - Night of the Creeps (1986)!!!

Episode 40 - Sssssss (1973) Review

Episode 40 - Sssssss (1973) Review

Greetings Hitchhikers & welcome to our second entry for It Came from Late Night TV Month for EP. 40 where we are bringing to you Sssssss (1973)!!! First things first, we want to apologize for the poor audio quality we are regrettably exposing you to for this episode. Skype wasn’t our friend the night we recorded this show and our schedules didn’t allow us time to re-record segments that truly needed redone. This is the best chicken salad we could come up with. Anyways, we ask, “What exactly did Strother Martin inject Dirk Benedict with in one particular scene and was Harry, the drunken snake once human or a real snake?” Also, we discuss our favorite special FX/transformation movies from yesteryear. Our personal feelings toward the snake kingdom are revealed and we spitball ideas for the sequel that never happened.

Episode 39 - Silent Rage (1982) Review

Episode 39 - Silent Rage (1982) Review

Greetings Hitchhikers and welcome to “It Came From Late Night TV” Month here on the Highway for June!!! We are going to be reviewing three of our personal favorite, oddball, quirky movies you’d catch staying up past your bedtime that have become cult classics among horror/sci-fi fans. Roundhouse kicking this month off is the Chuck Norris vs. Great Value Michael Myers flick, Silent Rage (1982) for EP. 39!!! We compare fashion similarities between our bad guy John Kirby and the Lord, while we also feel brief “dad quarantine pity” for Kirby...until he picks up an axe. Chuck Norris pulls a Dr. Loomis and the single greatest line in NHP’s show note history begins a deep cut discussing one of the weirdest montages in 80s cinema. We also ask, “Is this a slasher horror movie?” The King and Mayor agree, while the Lord wants to be stubborn and oppose. 😜 What do you say Hitchhikers, is this a horror movie?!

Episode 38 - Silverado (1985) Review

Episode 38 - Silverado (1985) Review

HOWDY HITCHHIKERS!!! We have a rootin’, tootin’ review for you that will satisfy your inner cowboy as we finish out Wild West Month for May; we bring you the star-studded Silverado (1985)!!! Right off the bat we go barkin’ at a knot when we realize every VHS the Lord finds at Goodwill costs him a quarter and gives us the history and meaning of the muff pistol. We take time to recognize the massive amount of horror movie connections there are with this and we discuss luck and what lucky charms we all have. Did I mention there’s virtual social distancing whiskey shots with the King? There are...but only of the good stuff. Oh, and he also explains that Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer and The Fast & the Furious are essentially the same movie. Somehow. All this and more in EP. 38 - Silverado (1985), available NOW on all your favorite podcasting apps!!!

Episode 37 - For a Few Dollars More (1965) Review

YEE-HAW HITCHHIKERS!!! Saddle up and gather your posse!!! NHP is going to the ol’ Wild West for the month of May and we’re starting this wagon train with Sergio Leone’s spaghetti western classic starring Clint Eastwood, For a Few Dollars More (1965) for EP. 37!!! Aside from some Skype technical difficulties, we conduct a Google Maps search during the show (it’s cool, trust us), & we may have this week’s Pick Two, Kick Two already nailed down. We ask what constitutes “hot” for the 1870s and who was the superior American cowboy: Clint Eastwood or John Wayne? The Mayor gets schooled in old school filming practices and the King has a special surprise for everyone...us included. EP. 37 - For a Few Dollars More (1965) is available NOW on all your favorite podcasting apps!!!

Episode 36 - In the Mouth of Madness (1994) Review

Episode 36 - In the Mouth of Madness (1994) Review

Welcome back Hitchhikers for the final episode for the month of April and the final entry into John Carpenter’s Apocalypse Trilogy with EP. 36 - In the Mouth of Madness (1994)...via Skype for the very first time!!! Just like the last entry, this is another “thinking man’s horror” movie from the Master of Horror and NHP dives in deep. We ask, “Does learning how the movie magic happens ruin viewership of certain movies & if you had unlimited power, how would you handle it?” Parallels to current world news and this trilogy are made, the Lord and the Mayor negotiate a potential barter for an original ITMOM movie poster, & all of us here want to know how you pronounce the word “crayon.”

Episode 35 - Prince of Darkness (1987)

Episode 35 - Prince of Darkness (1987)

Welcome back Hitchhikers!!! Hopefully, being on home confinement during this shelter-in-place order has been treating you well and you haven’t completely turned into the Torrance family up at the Overlook yet!!! In this second entry into John Carpenter’s Apocalypse Trilogy, we get a little philosophical and religious as we try to figure out where the hell Susan, the radiologist with glasses is as we review Prince of Darkness (1987). We ask which Carpenter pair is superior: Carpenter/Donald Pleasance or Carpenter/Kurt Russell...and we discuss potential “Loomis-boozing” on-set. We touch on Carpenter’s fascination with quantum mechanics, our favorite name to call the devil, & the King kinda hates on The Exorcist (1973). All this and more is waiting for you (with a huge cylinder of green devil goo) in EP. 35 - Prince of Darkness (1987).

Episode 34 - John Carpenter’s The Thing (1982) Review

Episode 34 - John Carpenter’s The Thing (1982) Review

DISCLAIMER: Obviously, things globally have changed dramatically in only a short amount of time for everyone, ourselves included in the podcasting world as well as within our own respective homes. While “the show” must go on, that doesn’t mean that there may not be some shuffling and adjustments made along the way to ensure that “the show” is up to snuff and to the NHP standard. Here’s a little backstory on this: The original plan Hitchhikers was to release this episode, EP. 34 (which we recorded in mid-February), on March 3rd, with EPs. 35 & 36 following biweekly. The Lord actually proposed the idea of reviewing John Carpenter’s Apocalypse Trilogy to The King & I way back in November shortly after we wrapped up October’s Halloween franchise review...and of course, we all loved this. Somehow, we just knew in November of last year that March 2020 was THE month to release this theme. But the winds of change blew in larger than life fashion, so we decided to delay releasing the trilogy until April...but, we even called an audible on that plan last second and decided to release EP. 34 early since it’s ready to go and we’re all bored out of our minds being stuck in our homes all day. So now the big joke for the three of us is: “We canceled our apocalypse theme for the month of March. The world, however...did not.” Hitchhikers, we are pleased to finally present to you: John Carpenter’s Apocalypse Trilogy. Join NHP as we practice social distancing by trekking all the way down to Antarctica to Outpost 31 to try to figure out some of this voodoo bull$#!+ that’s going on!!! As usual, in addition to our in-depth movie discussions, we also ask, “What are some of our favorite snowed in movies to watch at home during the wintertime?” The irony gets crazy real with foreshadowing our current world situation with talks of shutting ourselves off from others and being quarantined. Who knew?! The King kinda hates on Alien (1979) & Predator (1987), while The Lord & I take some ultra-mega deep cuts on possible fan theories regarding the movie...& of course, no movie review that stars Wilford Brimley wouldn’t be complete without some impromptu “diabeetus” impressions. We also left in some HorrorHound Weekend talk for further proof this whole idea wasn’t all an afterthought. All this and more awaits you in EP. 34 - The Thing (1982)!!!

Bonus Episode 4 - Friday the 13th Part III (1982) Review

Welcome back Hitchhikers for the very first bonus episode of 2020 and the only episode for the month of March, where the NHP boys are following a trend and reviewing Friday the 13th Part III in...3D for this actual Friday the 13th!!! In addition to our typical in-depth movie review, we also discuss how this entry into the franchise almost became the poor man’s version of Halloween II (1981) if one cast member would’ve returned to reprise their role. We reminisce about viewing 3D movies from the 80s, the logistics of hammock coitus, as well as the possibility of Harold & Edna being siblings. King shares some Friday the 13th: The Game tips for the Higgins Haven map and we ask the hard-hitting question, “When is it acceptable for a man to pee sitting down?” All this and more awaits you in Bonus Episode 4 - Friday the 13th Part III, available NOW on all your favorite podcasting apps!!!

Episode 33 - The Edge (1997) Review

Episode 33 - The Edge (1997) Review

Welcome back Hitchhikers!!! This time we’re heading north to the treacherous Alaskan wilderness as we review The Edge (1997) starring Sir Anthony Hopkins & Alec Baldwin. This show is mega special because Jerry Larew & Nash Morris of RATTAIL have graciously provided a lit musical piece for the episode, make sure you check those guys out!!! In addition to our unique in-depth analyses, we ask, “If you were stranded in the woods, would you save someone that had previously tried killing you?” The King, Sr. goes to one of the filming locations and all we got was a lousy t-shirt. We figure out that “moss = north” from The Lord’s Wilderness Survival Tips, Vol. 1 and get some fatherly advice from The King as we once again reaffirm that practical FX will always trump CGI. There’s spoiler-free takeaways for Doctor Sleep & The Fanatic...and a shameless celebration for our upcoming 1-year anniversary.

Episode 32 - The Devil’s Advocate (1997) Review

Welcome back Hitchhikers as we take a road trip to The Big Apple (by way of Gainesville, FL) as we go super deep into our review of The Devil’s Advocate (1997)!!! In addition to this, we get to find out which of the seven sins is our personal favorite and we discover who The King’s celebrity uncle is. All three of us are unanimous on which Charlize Theron hairstyle was better and we get a little weird when toe sucking is brought up. There’s a juicy selection discussed for the Recent Watches segment, friends of NHP & Hitchhiker shoutouts, as well as HorrorHound Weekend plans in Cincinnati, OH this March.

Episode 31 - Cloak & Dagger (1984) Review

Episode 31 - Cloak & Dagger (1984) Review

Welcome back Hitchhikers as we travel down south to San Antonio, TX to review the lesser known, action-packed, family adventure Cloak & Dagger (1984) for Episode 31!!! The King picked this one out of his nostalgic catalog of personal favorites and we all were surprised by the amount of interesting topics and discussions we had during this review. The Mayor shares his own personal nostalgia with this movie and does his best at interpreting some WebMD diagnoses for our main character Davey Osborne. It was discovered that (in addition to this being a love letter to Hitchcock), specifically, there’s an alarming amount of Psycho connections with this movie. The Lord & King reminiscence about playing E.T. on Atari, we discuss the Video Game Crash of ‘83, and the millions of E.T. game cartridges that were disposed of by Atari in New Mexico...even though we said it was Nevada. Our bad. All this and more awaits you in EP. 31 - Cloak & Dagger (1984)!!!

The King shares his thoughts from the womb when Ma & Pa King saw this in theaters August of ‘79, we reminisce over the perils of collect calls and pay phone memories, & James Brolin’s magnificent hairdo and beard. We also discover that The Lord & King both have a thing for redheads with metallic face gear, we get story time with some local lore from here along The Highway, James Brolin’s magnificent hairdo and beard...it’s worth repeating, & we ask, “Does the depicted murders of the DeFeo family after the title credits go towards the body count for the movie?” Help us out Hitchhikers!!! All this and much more in Episode 26 - The Amityville Horror (1979)!!!

Episode 24 - Rob Zombie’s Halloween (2007)/Rob Zombie’s Halloween II (2009) Reviews

zombied [zom-beed] (v.) to take generous cinematic liberties with one’s vision or interpretation to the extremes blending ruthless violence, graphic nudity, oversaturated vulgarity, as well as Sheri Moon Zombie. Ex.- “Boy, seeing that completely naked stripper get her face smashed repeatedly into that mirror after getting banged by the sleazy owner, that sure has my vote for being the most zombied scene in the movie.” Welcome Hitchhikers to the Rob Zombie portion of our October review of the Halloween franchise...for better, for worse. We get behemoth Michael Myers, Sheri Moon Zombie, some of the most brutal kills, lots of cussing, Sheri Moon Zombie, cameos galore, the best recreation of the Shatner mask since ‘81, & Sheri Moon Zombie. Episode 23 - Halloween H20: Twenty Years Later (1998)/Halloween: Resurrection (2002) Reviews

HEAR YE!!! HEAR YE!!! Let it be known that Jaime Lee Curtis has finally reprised her role as Laurie Strode after 20 long years of being cast in much higher brow cinema, but it comes at a great cost for us here on The Highway. A cost much greater than the $10M Moustapha Akkad should’ve shelled out to snag John Carpenter to direct. Michael is of course back and we only get a voiceover by *Dr. Loomis*. We get to do some sightseeing in Northern California (no, not back in Santa Mira) and follow this up by exploring the space that is early-2000’s reality based live streaming online & smooching siblings during these reviews. Buckle up Hitchhikers, this is gonna be a bumpier ride than driving around in an antique panel truck stolen from a rest stop. (*= Nostalgia Highway does not acknowledge and/or claim responsibility and/or liability of the use and/or accuracy of “Dr. Loomis” during the title sequence of Halloween H20, nor will they identify with Dimension Films’ creative liberties, which arose from blatant negligence as well as tragic ignorance.) Episode 22 - Halloween 4 (1988)/Halloween 5 (1989)/Halloween: Curse of Michael Myers (1995) Reviews

OKAY!!! FINE!!! HE’S BACK!!! You wanted him, you got him!!! It took 10 years, but Michael Myers has returned to terrorize Haddonfield, IL and his niece Jaime Lloyd on three different Halloweens over the span of 8 years (there’s a poorly explained abduction during this time also). Of course Dr. Loomis survived the explosion at HMH as well and is back to thwart evil once and for all, bringing along a motley crew of characters (some good/mostly bad), and even revived a few original characters for the ride we are calling The Jaime Lloyd Trilogy!!! This is a long one Hitchhikers, buckle up for some of the good, the bad, & the ugly for Episode 22!!! TIME STAMP FOR HALLOWEEN 5 - 1:32:15 TIME STAMP FOR CURSE - 2:56:57

Bonus Episode 2 - Friday the 13th (1980) Review

🎉🎊SURPRISE!!! A FRIDAY THE 13TH MIDNIGHT BONUS RELEASE!!!🎊🎉 Did you really think that we were going to allow a #FridayThe13th to come along and not do a review?!? We actually kinda feel bad because “maybe” we led you all to believe that we would review this during #SummerCampSlasherMonth in August...”maybe.” 😉 Regardless our intentions, here is our review of Friday the 13th (1980), where we discuss varying topics from The King having “man-to-dog” conversations, possible premeditated murderous rampages at Camp No-Be-Bos-Co, to whodunit slashers that cheat, & why Mrs. Voorhees is more convincing as a crazed, grieving mother than a stone cold serial killer. We ask, “Did Friday the 13th create the slasher sub genre...does Alice Hardy fit the mold of a true #FinalGirl...and why didn’t anyone teach Adrienne King how to use a hammer???” Oh yeah...and how cool is it that we have a Friday the 13th AND a #FullMoon just like they do in the movie?!?! All this and much more in Bonus Episode 2 -Friday the 13th (1980) available NOW!!! #NHP #HitchARide #KingArt #CampBlood #DeathCurse #HisNameWasJason

Episode 18 - RoboCop (1987) Review

Join us as we head to futuristic, dystopian Detroit where we review the 80’s sci-fi/action classic RoboCop, along with these hot take discussions: The Lord explains just how bad ED-209 sucks, The Mayor gushes over Kurtwood Smith’s performance as Clarence, & Ray Wise has to be a vampire. We ask does Lewis cause Murphy’s “death?” Which begs the question...did Murphy really die? The King and The Lord day he didn’t, while The Mayor says he did. Peter Weller > Arnold Schwarzenegger and we bash the remake unmercifully...which is the correct thing to do. All this and more is waiting for you in Episode 18 - RoboCop (1987)!!! YOUR MOVE CREEP!!!

Episode 17 - The Burning (1981) Review

To finish out August’s Summer Camp Slasher Month here on The Highway, we decided to review The Burning (1981)!!! Discussing this slasher classic was an absolute blast where we bring up The Mayor’s dislike of camp counselor Michelle, Cropsey’s misguided revenge tour 5 years in the waiting, and we ask “Was this movie a victim of the oversaturated early-80’s slasher boom?” The King says Laurence Fishburne can’t speak no jive, The Lord has a first time watch-hot take on this and Friday the 13th (1980) that had The King and I rethinking our horror fandom that you just have to hear...& there “might” be a small teaser for an upcoming bonus episode. 😉 All this and more on Episode 17 - The Burning (1981) available NOW on your favorite podcasting platform!!! #NHP #HitchARide #KingArt #SummerCampSlasherMonth #TheBurning #Cropsey #CampfireTales #TheRaftScene

Episode 16 - Sleepaway Camp (1983) Review

To kickstart August for Summer Camp Slasher Month, we decided to review the infamous, campy classic, Sleepaway Camp (1983) for Episode 16!!! We had a lot of fun discussing this cheesefest, as well as hard-hitting topics like: What exactly happened to director Robert Hiltzik as a child at summer camp to make this movie? Visiting filming locations and watching colorized versions of black & white cinema, then we find out where The King places this between Ernest Goes to Camp & Friday the 13th. Our thoughts on all-male, group skinny dipping, “Roid Out Ronnie,” and The Lord makes Shyamalan a verb.
