Today's guest is James Burgmann-Milner, who writes under JR Burgmann. He is an award-winning writer and doctoral candidate with the Monash Climate Change Communication Research Hub, where he also works as a Teaching and Research Associate. His doctoral research focuses on narrative forms of climate change communication. James' fiction and arts journalism have been published widely. His co-authored book Science Fiction and Climate Change: A Sociological Approach was shortlisted for both the British Science Fiction Association awards and the Locus awards. His debut novel Children of Tomorrow, which was highly commended in the Victorian Premier's Literary Awards this year, will be published by Upswell Publishing in early 2023. Introducing this week’s guests: Dr Tom and Jump Daddy from the hit podcast ‘Dad to Me’. Dr Tom is a lecturer in Latin Literature at the University of St Andrews in Scotland. He has published books, lectured around the world, and been arrested only once for public nudity. He’s also donated sperm to a same-sex couple and is currently navigating the meaning of being a dad, but not. Jump Daddy is a clown school drop-out who, somehow, still made it as a professional idiot. An Australian comedian, he has performed at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, Sydney Opera House, Melbourne International Comedy festival and every single Commonwealth country. He is not a father, but he did have one for a long time. With their delightful mishmash of experience with academia, comedy, podcasting and fatherhood, we’re very interested to see where this conversation goes!

His research focuses on transcultural, social change within these cultures, as well as migration history. His work has won funding from Scanlon Foundation and National Geographic. Francesco is currently studying Italians in Australia to develop a decolonial approach to history of Italian and Mediterranean migration in Australia.

Today's guest on NoTheory is Dr Ian Parsons, who is a musicologist from Melbourne. He has a particular interest in the connections between music and philosophy. Ian completed his PhD at Monash University, where he developed an interpretation of Stockhausen's opera cycle LICHT from the perspective of Heideggerian phenomenology and Lacanian psychoanalysis. As well as teaching at Monash University, he has also lectured, and provided research coaching, in the Masters Aus LICHT course at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague and is a regular guest presenter at the Stockhausen Courses in Kürten, Germany.  Prior to his studies and work in musicology, he had a background in social policy and law reform in both the public and community sectors. Ian also presents a weekly radio show in Melbourne that focuses on avant-garde art music.
