Ep 204 The NCTE Position Statement on Literacy

Ep 204 The NCTE Position Statement on Literacy

This episode follows directly from the conversation about the 2020 Book Club podcast assignment (Episode 203) and discusses the NCTE "Beliefs for Integrating Technology into the English Language Arts Classroom." This position statement grounds our teaching and is also the inspiration for our co-authored book. For more information on our book project, visit: https://sites.google.com/view/npbook/home.

In short, the "Beliefs for Integrating Technology into the English Language Arts Classroom" are comprised of four statements:

  1. Literacy means literacies
  2. Consider literacies before technologies.
  3. Technologies provide new ways to consume and produce texts.
  4. Technologies and their associated literacies are not neutral.
